Top 10 countries by risk of online malware infection

You may be surprised at South Africa’s position in the ranking of countries with the least risk of infection via the Internet

Kaspersky Lab has released its malware statistics for February 2012, which reveal that South Africa is in the top 10 countries where users face the least risk of infection via the Internet.

This excludes countries where the number of users of Kaspersky products is below 10,000.

According to Kaspersky, they compiled the following statistics from computers running their products:

  • 143,574,335 web-borne infections were prevented;
  • 298,807,610 malicious programs were detected and neutralised;
  • 30,036,004 malicious URLs were detected;
  • 261,830,529 network attacks were blocked.

Based on Kaspersky Lab’s stats, you may want to think twice before connecting your PC to the Internet from the following countries.

When calculating, we excluded those countries in which the number of Kaspersky Lab product users is relatively small (less than 10,000).

South Africa is a new entry on the ranking of top 10 countries where its least risky to go online. The full top 10 according to Kaspersky is as follows:
