The hacker group Anonymous in Mexico has crashed at least two of the websites for Pope Benedict XVI’s upcoming visit to Mexico.

The Mexican Episcopal Conference says its web page on the papal visit has been blocked by “a cyber attack.”

Conference spokesman Samuel Najera says the Internet attacks show intolerance and have hurt logistics efforts for the visit.

The Anonymous IberoAmerica website claimed responsibility for attacking that page Thursday as well as the website of the government of Guanajuato state, where the pope will visit starting Friday.

Anonymous Mexico says in a video posted on social media sites that the pope’s visit is meant to support the conservative National Action Party in the July 1 presidential election.
