Instant teleconference: Just add participants

Electronic Communications Network (ECN) recently announced its managed teleconferencing service that claims no initial or recurring monthly fees or contracts.

According to ECN they offer two types of virtual conferencing facilities: General and Managed.

General Meeting is intended to be a quick, easy-to-use service. According to ECN you dial into the service and generate a PIN to set up the conference. In order to hold the teleconference the PIN is distributed to participants who dial into the service and join the conference call by entering the PIN.

Managed Meeting allows moderator control and requires registration on the ECN website. ECN says that the facility includes the following moderator controls:

  1. Lock the teleconference
  2. Record the teleconference
  3. Do a head count
  4. Do a roll call
  5. Mute a user
  6. Kick a user

Neither meeting requires start-up or recurring monthly fees, ECN says.

They charge R0.17 per minute for such calls to their subscribers, billed per second. For participants that aren’t ECN subscribers standard call rates apply as billed by their own service provider.
