FibreCo Telecommunications (FibreCo) has announced that the company has completed 600km of the 1,000km link between Johannesburg and East London via Bloemfontein.

FibreCo is building a national open-access long-distance fibre-optic network which will allow operators, public and private enterprises direct access to their own optical fibre infrastructure.

This new network will will increase the supply of long distance capacity between major cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, as well as towns and rural areas along the route.

“This is a significant milestone for FibreCo, and is a good indication that the construction process is on track. We anticipate offering services on selected routes from early 2013,” said Arif Hussain, chief executive officer of FibreCo Telecommunications.
