8ta has sent out invitations to an event where it promises to introduce “a South African first in Wi-Fi usage” on 18 October 2012.

Although the image used in the promotion of the event may be showcasing some questionable driving, it does hint at in-vehicle Wi-Fi usage.

Combined with the hint provided by the URL which includes the words “Wi-Fi” and “cabs”, it would appear as though Telkom’s consumer mobile arm will be introducing conveyance-centric Wi-Fi services next week.

This is ahead of the launch of 8ta’s Long Term Evolution public trial programme on 1 November 2012, for which the network is also keeping details under wraps until tomorrow (10 October 2012).
