LG W2261VP-PF
PROS: Image quality, headphone socket
CONS: Nothing
If you own a console and need a monitor for those secluded gaming sessions, then this is the LCD for you. All you need to game on the road is your console, headphones and this LCD.
It is always difficult to review an LCD. Besides aesthetics and specifications, the only other thing to ‘go on’ is picture quality. So, to ensure that we got the most out of LG’s new gaming LCD, we tested it on a variety of platforms and under different light conditions.
This 22-inch widescreen LCD is aimed at the gaming market, as it sports a reasonably fast response time and has a full-HD resolution. Over the course of two weeks, we played loads of Battlefield 1943 on the Xbox 360, watched a few Blu-ray movies, and even managed to hook it up to a desktop PC (though it performed better with a Mac). In each instance, the image quality was crisp, bright, and extremely smooth. We were sold.
The feature that sealed the deal, however, and one that makes this a superb gaming LCD, is the headphone socket hidden on the back of this LCD. This allows you to connect your headphones when you are connecting an HDMI source, such as your gaming console, without the need to hook up amplified speakers. This solves one of the biggest problems when it comes to portable console gaming. And the sound quality is not too bad. Kudos to LG.
