Hey, those aren't too bad at all! Is there a 3.5mm connector? Thought most SE stuff was proprietary. Got any model numbers to check specs? I've heard many earbuds come from the same factories. So the frequency response on those must be pretty good, meaning you get quite a bit of detail. Way more than even R1,000 PC speakers.
Saw this the other day, would have been nice. http://www.carbonite.co.za/f13/sennheiser-cx-300-ii-precision-10338/

Hey Mr pP
These have std 3.5mm connector... also noise isolating and they do have a nice freq response... some bass too. Dunno the specs... will find out, curious now.
These are 4 years old and still my preferred set... very nice, clean and pleasant sound - can sit inside ears for days without any fatigue too.

Cool. Sounds nice and comfy. I have these as well and they hurt my ears after a while. They came with interchangeable buds though so perhaps I should try the smaller ones. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Razer/m100/ Also great sound. Rebranded Sennheisers, they say.

Keaver & Brause (http://www.last.fm/music/Keaver%2B%2526%2BBrause)
glitch, experimental, glitch hop, hip-hop, electronica
Keaver is a veteran of the Ceder studio system, known as a sound effects man but in fact, something of an innovator in electronic music. Brause, a dozen years younger and looking like a baby, has moved from Worksop to Berlin to London to Nottingham, working as a folk singer, and session musician, and is becoming more and more interested in beat sculpting. Their debut album “The Middle Way” twists a broad spectrum of elements to create hip hop founded electronics that relish the use of hazy samples and spiraling rhythms. Landing somewhere between Dabrye, Lukid and BOC, ‘The Middle Way’ is drenched in the sound of a youth spent locked in the studio - crafting the kind of intricately plotted instrumentals that unfold with textured detail, yet never hurry their slow-burn predilection. Alongside the likes of Lone, Paul White and Bullion, Keaver & Brause are at the vanguard of new producers aiming to snap your neck through persuasion over precision.

Mr Cooper (http://www.last.fm/music/Mr+Cooper)
trip-hop, electronic, instrumental hip-hop, abstract hip-hop, instrumental
There are two artists named Mr Cooper.
One is a Reggae singer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The other was born in 1983 in a small village in East Anglia. Moved to Brighton when I was 3. First track that I remember liking: Money, money, money by Abba. Made pause button compilation tapes of various types of dance music from the radio in my early teens. Got into good hip hop age 14. Started bedroom djing age 16. Computers got powerful enough to handle sample based production when I was 16. A friend of a friend showed me some music software when I was 16. Started making tracks age 16. First release as Mummy Fortuna’s Theatre Company on Lexoleum compilation on Lex Records with my good friend Sketch age 18. Released our first record proper, Born Of Man And Flies, the following year. Released Scarred For Life with vocalist and friend Legs MC as Amateur Dramatics. Played MPC in Sketch’s live band. Tried to make an album as Mummy Fortuna’s but didn’t really work. Both got into our solo stuff more. Released tracks with John Tsunam and Bougaloo. Released tracks on compilations on Project Mooncircle, Abandon Building and Subversiv Records. Finished first solo album. Called it Amongst Strangers. Amongst Strangers released in Japan and eventually worldwide on CD by Wimm Recordings. Got a live show together for Amongst Strangers with Irwin Max. Played some shows. Amongst Strangers released on vinyl by Project Mooncircle. Inertia EP released on Project Mooncircle. Sent Sage Francis a beat. Sage liked beat and used it on Human The Death Dance. Started work on second LP.

Various Artists - Be Spun (Spun Records)
Compiled by Californian DJ and Spun resident, Brian Sentient, the album kicks off with the absolutely stonking track, "The Serum" by Antidote and GMS. The Logica remix of "Bend the Future" by Sonic Species is serious (fun) business with really cool stop/starts. This compilation contains quite a few of my favourite full on artists and Chromatone being one of the best, put me in a mood for midday stomp with "Space Star Ordering". "Freewheeler" by Tristan can be set on repeat and I can guarantee that you will not leave the dance floor. I really enjoyed the chunky sound of "The Great Outdoors" by Earthling and Mad Maxx. SA's own Broken Toy supplies a full on, fun bouncy track; "Hollow Anne" followed by fellow countryman Headroom and his phat track, "Headbanger Boogie" which is certainly destined for classic status. "Tarsonis" is a solid track with good build-ups by Poli and Brian Sentient. With a combination of Astrix and GMS I expected the final track to be very cheesy but "Stay Classy" is anything but. An album filled with bright sunshine! Recommended.

http://vimeo.com/8734917
http://vimeo.com/17516034
Hard electronic bits go hand in hand with organic melodies. Shaking and improvising trumpet fills the air along with harsh and sharp scratches. Technical precision intertwines with jazz freemindness and uncompromising nature of hip-hop. All of the twisted ideas and concepts break loose as the semi-improvised formula of the performance come across the audience expectations, the hosting facility ambiance and the latest inspirations of the kIRk board.
kIRk is a rather undefined project.
I have had their ""Msza Święta w Brąswałdzie" [2011]" album on repeat all evening... bliss.

Poland
myspace.com/kirkband
kIRk was formed about year 2000/2001 by three chaps. From companionship to friendship, to music. Base first, then superstructure as Marx said. The foundations were built in the city of Plock, deep inside the guts of the underground techno scene. Experimenting with any musical software Paul (Pawel Bartnik - Samosia Zofia), Lucas (Lukasz Morawski - Insp.Moore) and Karol (Karol Zduniak) could lay their hands on, quickly resulted in their first 4/4 beat. The uncompromising attitude lead them through the toughest and most aggressive recesses of electronic music. A dose of attention which they got from people like Si Begg and Mark Hawkins resulted in first pressings. Neue Heimat, Noodles Institute of Technologies and Coin Operated gave the international audience the first opportunity to hear the sounds of kIRk. Within the borders, techno scene activist known under the name of Feelaz gathered a bunch of people under one flag and formed the Extension team.
As there is strength in unity Berlins legendary Tresor and the famous Sfinks club in Sopot opened their stages to the trio. The sounds were sprawling, the news were spreading, the first articles and reviews were published, but as we know - force writes the most interesting scenarios. Day to day life put Karols musical passion on the sidetrack, he may not twirl the knobs and punch the pads no more, but he’s the honorary life member of the collective. Meanwhile, as they say in comic books, the bands way crossed the path of a young turntablist dj going by the name of Sziwa (Filip Kalinowski). His hip-hop background influenced the sound. The sound changed his attitude to scratch. He entered kIRk as the DoT.BoY and since then the synthetic kick-off flows went along with a rap vibe. The new inspirations gained an audio documentation in a form of a mini album named “Karton+”.
Despite never being released, it became a milestone on the creative way of the collective. Those tracks restated the bands assumptions and outlined their aims and perspectives. Two tracks released on the Ukrainian label Ghetto**** were the harbingers of the new sound. While the over border cooperation took place, the new friendships came along. Common interests and passion for pushing things forward rapidly linked the guys with Evel (Ewelina Bartosik) - a very talented young vocalist and OlG (Olgierd Dokalski) - the trumpeter not bowing to any rules or schemes. They both came in with bombs: “Earwig The City” sang by Evel became the first kIRk video and the “About Simple Things EP” was the first project involving “live” instrument. The EP took the best ideas of the “Karton+” and combined them with fresh concepts and new sounds. Raw beats were balanced by live and breathing trumpet. Daily stories contrasted with the heavy structure. The starting point, which in short can be called "techno", became a much wider formula. Besides the fully author kIRk material, it incorporated the Totally rekIRked Jetlag & Tinnitus Part 1 - samples taken from the whole Si Begg EP and cut into a completely new shape. This track was a digital release on Noodles, the rest was unearthed “only” on the radio waves (on Mary Anne Hobbs’ Experimental on BBC Radio One among others) and the self made demos. “Wiecej Kawy” (“More Coffe”) with Aga MC on the mic became the bands first hit and its powerfull, broken structure gave them full right to the Van Bangerz nickname.
As the kIRkers can’t sit still, after the EP part of the crew got involved in some educational work - a dubwise mixtape which take the audience deep into the music - when it comes to base, as well as history. The one who got deepest was Mr Borman (Artur Borkowski) who laid a few lines on one track and as a result of developments became the second voice of kIRk. With his tuneful flow once more the hip-hop background came to the surface. With his wordplay abilities and “keep it real” mind-set, the uncompromising attitude made a full circle.
As a sextet kIRk went live. Live as never ever before. Laptop sets were put off in the shadow by a full band show. Taking part in festivals like Warsaws Re:Wizje or supporting Coldcut during the Era Nowe Horyzonty in Wroclaw gained the crew new experiences and laid the base for the upcoming LP. Years of practice, different styles and complementary skills form like Voltron.
kIRk is not a project.
It’s a family tied by sound.

Shigeto (http://www.last.fm/music/Shigeto)
Popular tags: ambient, idm, glitch, electronic, glitch-hop
Artists take on pseudonyms for a multitude of reasons, but in Zach Saginaw’s case, those reasons run deeper than most. Zach records under the name Shigeto. It’s his middle name; it’s also his grandfather’s name, a tribute to the Japanese branch of Zach’s family tree. Shigeto also means “to grow bigger”—appropriate, given Zach’s premature birth-weight of less than a pound. Today, Shigeto stands for Zach’s vividly beautiful electronic music. Beat-driven but given to richly textured sound design, rhythmically fractured but melodically sumptuous, Shigeto’s music is a bridge between the past and present, bringing the artist face to face with a creative legacy that spans decades.
Zach was brought up on a steady diet of Michigan-bred music, as his father spoon-fed him old Motown and jazz records by the crateload. Zach picked up the drums at an early age, spending much of his childhood playing in the Detroit/Ann Arbor music scene. After nearly flunking out of high school—save for his music studies—Zach spent three years studying jazz at the New School in NYC and three more in London, where he began woodshedding, obsessed with learning electronic production. Soon enough, beats materialized, Zach moved to Brooklyn and took up the name
Shigeto, and Zach’s peers began to take notice.
Zach’s body of work has grown over the last few years to the tune of several EPs on Moodgadget as Shigeto and with A Setting Sun, a pair of EPs under the alias Frank Omura (another family-name reference), and remixes for Worst Friends, Praveen & Benoit, Tycho, Mux Mool, Charles Trees, A Setting Sun, Beautiful Bells, Shlohmo, and more. The Semi-Circle EP will be his first release with Ghostly International; the full-length Full Circle is on the horizon. Semi-Circle is a fiercely independent work of art, nominally indebted to instrumental hip-hop but, like Zach, straddling many worlds at once. Cool shades of ambient music, stuttering early IDM, dubstep sub-bass, and jazz melodicism color Shigeto’s palette, which he wields with a painterly attention to detail.
As Ghostly International hits its 10th anniversary, Shigeto is one of the first of a wave of young artists who grew up influenced by the label’s early output. And again, names come into play. “Putting out this record on Ghostly isn’t just ‘getting signed,’ for me,” says Zach, “it’s becoming part of a family, an influence that I’ve respected forever. That’s Full Circle.” Let’s just say the feeling’s mutual.

Daniel Thomas Freeman (http://www.last.fm/music/Daniel+Thomas+Freeman)
Popular tags: ambient, drone, experimental, dark ambient
I found this to be an interesting biography.
Daniel Thomas Freeman is a founding and current member of Rameses III who have released ambient / drone / folk on Type, Important, Under The Spire etc.
http://www.descendingangel.com
Current reviews for “The Beauty of Doubting Yourself”:
“The photograph of Scafell Pike on the digipak of this CD takes me back to a terrifying nights camping up near a tarn just below the summit where a storm hit and myself and a couple of mates had to batten down the hatches for fear of our lives. The occasional toilet outing also involved an occasional peek outside to find a view very similar, with bleak battleship grey skies, howling wind and horizontal rain. As a visual it sets the scene well for the audio created over a six year period from this member of Rameses III. The seven tracks have been split into three movements which document the artist’s emotional state at various points - depression, slow recovery and finally grace. Bearing this in mind and listening to opener ‘Dark House Walk’ it’s clear that Daniel was battling some demons at the time of its creation as it’s an incredibly blackened piece which shows zero signs of a way out. The overall effect is claustrophobic to say the least. A feeling that continues into the dark throbbing drones of ‘Staring Into Black Water’. For me the sound of water in its many states and in particular the sea evokes many feelings. Having grown up on an island I would often find solace in the sound of the waves. It would appear Daniel also likes to become introspective to these sounds (as I’m sure many people do) with the inclusion of beach recordings from Padstow, Cornwall. The addition of these recordings really complete the piece adding a very chilling dynamic. As things unfold over the twenty five minute duration it’s like a journey into Daniel’s frame of mind at that particular time, the effect is of feeling lost and alone and is incredibly powerful.
‘The Beauty Of Doubting Yourself’ begins the second movement with fast, intricate synthesized (possibly??) percussion and icy chimes. It recalls a Coil track that I know but cannot remember its name. There’s a distant sense of hopelessness dissolving into the background while the overall emerging tone is uplifting and ready for change, happiness is almost within grasp. ‘The Might Of Angels’ with its looped violin phrase almost feels like being touched by the divine. The image I’m given when I close my eyes is one of a cadaver being given mouth to mouth resuscitation by a ghostly blue angel, breathing new life into a mortal shell. Then comes ‘The Devil Would Steal Your Joy’ which is really amazing with its distorted darkside drones and disembodied vocals which really threaten to pull things right back into the darkness of the abyss but then the juxtaposition of heavenly dulcimer denies them their want and steers things away from what feels like a genuine threat of regression.
Moving forward we land at the first part of the third movement with ‘Elegy And Rapture (For Margaret)’ Which is touchingly dedicated to Daniel’s late mother. This is a profoundly moving piece of music on many levels. ‘Staring Into The Light’ is as expected a stark contrast to the sounds that first introduced the album. The gentle distant melodies speak like a huge weight has been lifted off of Daniel’s shoulders. To be clear things are not all upbeat and party vibes. That’s not this chap’s style. What is very apparent though is there has been a major transition from where the album first began with gorgeous Rhodes keys that sparkle and retreat into the distance.
Ultimately the audio documents Daniel’s six year journey from darkness into the light and is a tale of the challenges and struggles that we all face at some point in our lives. It is the story of being human and how art and creativity can be therapeutic and healing. Fortunately Daniel emerged on the other side. The power of this album is that we must never lose hope and that at the end of every tunnel comes the light. Highly recommended.”

Can strongly recommend Goldring DR150 for a starter "reference/audiophile quality" pair of headphones. They compete with Sennheiser HD555 but are 1/3 of the price. £29.95 delivered in UK, you can get them via Amazon etc. probably work out around R400. If you have the cash.
They're 32Ohm, so you normal 3.5mm jacks provide enough power. No amplification necessary. I would bundle them with the Asus Xonar U3 USB headphone amp sound card, bought one for testing and it's pretty good.
Trust me on this. ;)

I made this video/picture show to impress the feelings this song awakes in me. i wanted to create a dark and sad athmosphere while the lyrics are sung. But in the refrain it should suddenly change into some kind of euphory. Especially at the part with "HERE you have strength, HERE you are save from harm..." and so on where I took bright and friendly and peacefull pictures to impress the safety and love i always feel at that part.

Mitoma is the newest musical creation from the same two happy Scotsmen behind the Altered:Carbon project
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6svlc6VtlPQ
Satellite Hive is the second album from Mitoma, one which sees the Scottish duo welding together disparate elements of electronica to form a beautifully contorted album. Subtle tones shift through airless vacuums and considered glitches spark in and out of existence to unbalance straight up beats. An album that twists and turns through light and dark and sturm und drang to confuse and pacify you while pushing electronica ever onwards.

Various Artists – Sunday Vol2 (Blue Tunes Recordings)
DJ Creator has a lovely set of progressive trance tunes lined up for you so get out the sunblock because we are going stomping. Osher's "Summer Good Bye" is a very lively start and "Ilite" by Popart kicks it up into top gear with massive banging beats. Osher makes another appearance with a remix of "Desire" by Liquid Soul a track with a beautiful melody and oh so sexy vox. Zyce & Flegma are progressive experts and once again have all the sounds in the right places with beautiful voice and djembe drumming in the wonderful "Dimension". The stunning "Dusty Groove" by Macedonian Egorythmia (Boban Lazovski) has a cathedral echo and is then followed by a more upbeat tune by Sideform, the duo from Serbia. The vox sounds strangely German in the groovy "Flashlight" by Double Click & Numb and then a real German title comes next, "Ein Tag in Hamburg" by Hanzo & Clufe with Japanese sounds. Sven Snug (Oliver Sven Krebser )hands outs some disco beat in "Your Eyes" and NOK ends the album with a darker progressive tune remixed by Haldolium. The last track was my favourite by far, mixing progressive with menacing. Recommended.

When I listen to music I really don’t care about genre although certain styles work with certain moods. There’s really a small amount of genre’s I don’t like. It all depends on whether I like the song or not. Ranting about genres is pointless because there’s just too many especially in EDM. Since it began every f’en sound added changed it from Chicago House to Detroit Acid to Trance to Hard trance then euro trance etc… WTF? I like good music if it sounds good and has some originality in it I would probably listen. All these genres are what cause artists to not be experimental about it and they end up establishing themselves in that particular style, which sucks for the progression of music. Very little experimental musicians exist and they are actually the ones adding some thought into doing things differently.

Deadmau5 rants after receiving criticism when he made the cover of rolling stone magazine. The post includes too many cold hard facts about major electronic producers stating that “we all hit play” during a live performance.

awesome chilled tunes
I was totally blown away by the new sound of Loud (Eitan Reiter and Kobi Toledano). They were doing no wrong with their previous banging stuff but a change like this is very refreshing. I love it. The album starts off on a chilled note, with a stunning collaboration with the brilliant Shulman, and continues that way throughout. The superb mixture of beats, violin and deep vox on the Shulman composition is mind blowing. I had to listen to it a number of times before I continued with the rest of the album. The second track has a very nice tribal sound and “Solid” has a warm analog synth musicality. The whole album is relaxed and many of the sounds reminded me of the Carl Sagan documentary, Cosmos. This album firstly takes one on a journey of discovery and then dance comes as second thought. This is music for the mind and spirit, close your eyes and drift off into the ionosphere. The final and longest track, “Station 42” has the noises and voices of a busy station mixed with delicate synth sounds that softly embrace your being and created the feeling of space travel. Recommended.
