Heyup
My wife want to capture a single screenshot of one of the scenes in Madagascar. We tried irfanview and paintbrush, but for some doohicky reason it just won't grab the picture properly.
Any ideas or programs which will help to grab it?

I'd just pause it and do a normal screen capture.
Got a time code? :)

I think Media Player Classic (mpc) has an option somewhere to capture frames.

The "Print Screen" button is your friend. :)
PowerDVD also has it's own little thing that can save frames to disk.

Just checked MPC, open the file with mpc, pause at the part where you need the screenshot, then select File >> Save Image; you can choose between bmp & jpeg.
Use the button "Print Screen Sys Rq" After u pause the screen shot that you want.

*sigh*
dvd's on xp play using vmr (7 or 9, take your pick)
using the print screen key will capture for you, in glorious one colour, a nice black frame. because when using vmr the data is written striaght to the graphics memory, ala windows doesnt even see the data hence there is nothing to "print screen"
use media player classic, as suggested.

Not much of a windows guy but when I double clicked on the dvd Windows Media Player started up and I was able to use the print screen + paste method just fine.

When I do print screen, it captures.
But captures a black box.
Will try the other suggestions as outlined above out, thanks :)
@ bwana : 9min4s is the mark

Thanks for the trouble :) it is appreciatedIf you have a particular scene in mind, and you can adequately describe it, I'd probably be able to grab it for you.

Nero can do it.
Nero showtime - pause on frame you want - right click on screen -one of the options is "capture frame" - paste into favourite editor - paint, photoshop etc.

The problem is the player. MS players block screenshots.
Try something like VLC. Or quicktime...that has a builtin capture thing.

VLC VideoLAN client can also do a good job of frame capture...

Now I'm just curious about this frame. Libs, when you get it you have to post it, ok?

Printscreen wont work if the DVD is hardware accelerated I think, you need a player that captures the data not the screen like mpc.
Linux has no problem taking a screenshot of a moving DVD...
In fact, the DVD still plays if you view it on the flip-switcher (compiz fusion). And when you rotate the desktop cube for that matter...

Probably, but it's best to capture the data rather than the screen to get the proper resolution of the DVD image.
