WTF :mad::mad:

Can you believe they allowed this to be aired. Bunch of loony leftwing fem nazis.

So lets see I can't be proud to male, white, heterosexual. What next? Having a full head of hair. I just feel so ashamed :(

Now where do I keep my Prozac. I got a lot of groveling for forgiveness lined up

If you feel ashamed about that advert then you have some serious issues.

Unless you are a rapist that advert shouldn't shame you... seriously I didn't expect you to be so PC...

LOL so you ashamed of being an 'S.A male'

Then again you are pooky :D

No wait we know the answer to that

Who said I was white and I am yet to see why you find the advert offensive.

Take back your right to be proud of being male... don't whine about the facts of life.

I remember Charlize Theron had a similar advert but this one is much better.

Hopefully it makes a difference.

Why? Seriously you are being stupid here.

Unless you are a rapist or condone rape this advert cannot shame you.

Fall off that horse and get a grip Alan. Rape is bad, anything (within reason) to fight rape is good.

South African men rape over 500 000 women every year in South Africa.

That is so sensationalist.

Is that even an accurate figure? Does it specifically exclude rapes by foreign men?

The ANC rapes 500 000 woman every year in South Africa.

:p

I asked you a simple question. Can you not answer it?

The actor is ashamed. Does that make him a rapist?

Alan

Yeah this one. I guess another fav of yours from Charlize is when she claimed South Africans don't really celebrate Christmas eish :o

Your question was simple and answered.

I am not ashamed about who I am. I am ashamed of how women are treated in SA and feel that everything and anything should be done to help fix that. How can you not?

[Okay maybe the question wasn't answered directly before but it has been now]

GavinMannion

Seriously are you stoned tonight?

Really where?

I am not ashamed about who I am. I am ashamed of how women are treated in SA and feel that everything and anything should be done to help fix that. How can you not?

According to this you must be ashamed of who you are. Being a South African male?

1. I am ashamed of South African males

2. I am not ashamed of my skin colour

Not sure WTF either of those questions have to do with your overly guilty response to this advert.

1. I am ashamed of the rape statistics in South Africa and back any and all legal means to fix it. This one seems to hit home where it is required.

[Edit: Going to watch a movie so no I am not ignoring you responses ;)]

As a woman, I appreciate that advert! :)

I believe the people who object to that advert are feeling guilty about something. TBH me thinks you protest too much alan!

Are you implying I raped somebody? I'm sorry but I have not and neither do I as a male feel in any way ashamed for being male because I happen to share the same gender as someone who has raped somebody.

Just like I'm not ashamed to be white even though being white I happen to share the same race as a white racist. I am not a racist and not being ashamed of your race doesn't make you one. If I object to being ashamed that does indicate an "overly guilty" response or protesting to much.

1. I am ashamed of South African males

2. I am not ashamed of my skin colour

Finally. So you are ashamed of S.A males including yourself because of the actions of a few S.A males but you're not ashamed of being white even though there a few whites who are racists. That does not add up :o

Not sure WTF either of those questions have to do with your overly guilty response to this advert.

You are a lunatic. This is right up there with you considering voting for Condi Rice because she is black :D

I think we can safely agree, that nobody here is proud of the SA rape statistics.

I believe you guys are missing each others points. Alanf seems to have an issue with them connecting rape and "being/not being proud to be an South African in general", while everyone else is offended because Alanf has an issue with a anti-rape ad. Does that sound about right, or am I too missing someones point?

ETA: ic why did you merge a Religion thread with a rape ad thread?

Also, title adjusted to reflect the title & relevance at the given url.

I started the thread about a particular line in the add. Perhaps you could change the "real men don't rape" to "not proud to be an S.A male" since that is the point of contention.

Eh no you did miss something. Connecting the fact you are S.A male not a South African. Secondly I don't take issue with an anti rape adds as a whole just this one. Oh and not everybody just a few.

I thought the advert was really good, it speaks to the majority a lot better than a certain famous lady from Benoni. Not all men are rapists but statistics show that there are alot of them out there, I'd raise a concerned eyebrow at any bloke who feels insulted by this ad.

I think the original snooty ad still grates some people.
This ad doesn't bother me, and I think Zola has way more credibility than Charlize Theron.
I just wonder what the script writers meant by "taking our pride back"?
It sounds like an exhortion to men to take the law into their own hands.

FFS can you not see the relevance :o

Why must a person be ashamed of a trait( which has no relevance and is something out of the individuals control) they share with somebody who has commited a crime.

LOL coming from you that's a laugh :D

No surprise to see the usual possie. Always obsessed with generalisations

I'm going to regret this, but here goes:

1. Alan, the ad is not aimed at you, unless you're a rapist.
2. Alan, the concept of the ad is to create a air of shame around the crime of rape. Zola is a well respected celebrity, and has a lot of street credibility (because he is a reformed criminal). The target of the ad is his audience - young black men. It is fairly obvious, but maybe PMB is out of the loop on stuff like this.
3. Alan, you need to get a life and stop getting upset about stuff you both don't understand and can't change. You're taking years off your life by getting your blood pressure up.
4. Alan, the value of emoticons in a post is reduced dramatically if every third word is followed by one.
5. It's spelled "posse". ;)

I'm going to regret this, but here goes:

Yeah don't like getting proved wrong. :D

1. Alan, the ad is not aimed at you, unless you're a rapist.

No it's clearly aimed at S.A males. Hence he refers to himself not being proud and claims "we rape 500 000" If we refers to the people the add is aimed at (rapists according to you) and himself he is than saying he is one them. A rapist

Add to that "guy lets take back our pride"

Gosh Andrew I'm dissapointed.

No the concept to is to make S.A males ashamed of the fact that they share the same gender as rapists. Although rape is not a soley 'male' crime anyway.

3. Alan, you need to get a life and stop getting upset about stuff you both don't understand and can't change. You're taking years off your life by getting your blood pressure up.

Frankly I can get upset about whatever I want. Generalising, it seems, gets to me. Especially when people link me to rapists through nothing more than my gender. I appreciate your concern though.

4. Alan, the value of emoticons in a post is reduced dramatically if every third word is followed by one.

What can I say I'm an emotional person

5. It's spelled "posse". ;)

I can see why you're upset about this "we" thing, but I think it is justified in this context. They could have said "The rapists amongst us rape 500000 women yearly" but "we" works better in an ad.

Oh and not everybody just a few.
My apologies. Generalization on my part.

I never thought that I would ever agree with Alan on something but he's got a point here: Zola is ashamed to be a man because "we" raped 500000 women. Well, by that logic I am ashamed to be a man because Stalin was also a man and he killed 20 million of his countrymen. I'm also ashamed to be white because many white people kept slaves 300 years ago. I'm ashamed to be married because I know of many married guys that cheat on their wifes. I can go on and on...

Zola stars in rape commercial - 然eal Men don't Rape'

We know and agree to that, but we also know that a certain faction or members of our society do/does it (rape) with impunity and that they do for ill informed ethnic and cultural reasons as well as medical advise and beliefs. It will become worse as Our honorary leadership does it too and then takes a shower, just in case!

PS: Wonder what Zuma "thinks" or rather what crosses his mind if he watch that commercial?

Rape is a crime. Being racist per se as long as you keep it only in your head and it doesn't affect anyone (you don't discriminate) is not a criminal act,
in fact people will never know. The victim of rape will definately know if someone rapes him or her (yes men also get raped, obviously much less frequently though). SA has very high child abuse and rape figures - heck and murder figures. If some people want to be ashamed of that, its a good thing. As for racism, racism exists everywhere, try to live in India or marry an Indian girl and see if the family accepts you.
I have many friends (from 4 continents) who tried cross ethnic relationships which never worked out at the end, usually the family gave too much resistance, from both sides.

texo
20-01-2008, 10:52 PM
How can you feel ashamed for the actions of another person?
I feel outraged and angry that there are so many rapes happening in SA, and that not enough is being done to prevent them... but feel *ashamed*? Not at all.

I have no control of the actions of others, and can therefore feel no shame.

Alan
20-01-2008, 10:58 PM

Like in your last post when you tried and failed to get your wrong interpretation into my thankfully norrow mind which had it correct.

I'll leave it at that - no point in continuing in the face of obstinate ignorance.

Well then you can use racist crimes. A victim would definately know. Rape happens everywhere as well.

It'a never a good thing to be ashamed of yourself or other innocent people based on the fact you share the same gender or race as somebody who has commited the crime.

Aim it at those responsible not some innocent person based solely on some irrelavant generalisation

Well then you can use racist crimes.

Didn't I say 'as long as you only keep it within your head'?
Once you murder or attack someone, for whatever reason (excluding defence) you are breaking the law. If you dislike person X but you
don't do anything about it you're not guilty of anything. If governments hound you for this though, it becomes a very serious breach of personal civil rights.

People experience things differently. I'm a guy and heck I love looking at women but I would never rape one. Its just not in me. Some people would, heck some guys wouldn't even find anything wrong in it. She's wearing as skirt, she's acting in a seductive way, obviously she wants it. Sometimes these feelings are reinforced by culture, sometimes by lack of parental instruction, sometimes by alcohol and other times the individual has
anti-social personality disorder or is incapable of feeling empathy.
Many guys have a gung-ho attitude towards women and see them as sexual objects only, add a little alcohol and a naive woman who may misread some
signs and you have a rape situation.

Actually I find it extraordinarily ironic at those who were( GM, Fudzy and co) so concerned at me having a problem with this add, outrageously implying suspicion I had raped somebody when in the add, which they had no problem with, stated "we (ie them. GM, Fudzy and co) raped 500 000 woman" :o
