A little too late?

Nevermind, will definitely have a look at that. Having to wash out of a basin is not fun.

This is great...

BUT they need to be upfront on what the subsidies are, how much we'll save etc etc...

Not have some wishy washy, "it'll be calculated on the energy displacement". That means I have to go through the whole process, and possibly waste my time, and a suppliers only to find out the subsidy is R2000 on a R20000 system, which means its still not viable for me.

ROFL @ this being considered good news considering the context. So with an incentive it'll still cost over R13k, great.

it is still way too expensive ... so not much of an incentive .... I think u could getter it cheaper without the incentive :D

I've seen quotes for around R11999 fully installed in the cape town area.

Nowhere near viable. Break even on that for me is over 5 years... by then i don't plan on being here for the gauvamint to be stealing taxes from me

Go to the site below. It helps to calculate what u would need.

http://www.dc-power-supply.co.za/solar-power-calculator.htm

Problem is with expensive solar panels.

I think they only subsidise the panels for water heating .... would be nice if they provided a decent subsidy to try and provide power to other areas in your house ....
also .. what they should do is allow u to send excess electricity back into the grid so that you can get that as a pay-back/rebate on ur account

Basically the calculator is showing me that it will take 8 years to pay off a solar water heating system. By that time it will probably need replacing anyways so exactly how do I save?

ToxicBunny

8years?!?!? if only....

Mine is returning a value of 14 years to payback the system, so its beyond not viable for me...

This is all way too much, would need to cover my house in pannels just to power my pc :P or is this for important stuff like fridge and lights only?

even then that alot

Bleh and its only a water heating system. So when the power fails you would still not be able to cook your food.

You know, a lot of ppl blame Escom ( even myself too maby ), but come 2 think of it...Isnt it actually the Govt fault? Were they not warned during the 90's about possable failure of the stations?

Its both of their faults..

Guavamint ignored them, and eskom didn't scream loudly enough.

I think the power problem will continue, nit just here in sunny sa, but globally, and costs will simple go up. I heard quite abit about the solafr and wind power generator guides that can obtained from the net, and decided to do some research into these, as I think becomign self sufficient, at lowest possible cost is key..

There do seem to be a number of kit's/guides for solar power out there. When I did decided I wanted to "go of grid" and following the greener road, I found so many products on the net, some seemed good and some seem really well.... like someone is out for a quick buck. Stumbled onto www.cleargreenworld.com these guys did some reviews of a few top selling online solar kit's and give a straight to the point, concise review.. If I find any more, I will post them
