The next step in a police state.

This confused me:

"Our inspectors will visit areas in KwaZulu-Natal to speak to residents about people in the area who may be abusing or wasting power.

"In some instances businesses may be operating from backyards or some people may be recklessly using hosepipes."

People are entitled to home offices and so on. Just what businesses are they complaining about?

The "hosepipes" thing baffles me completely - I thought Eskom was in charging of mismanaging power? The closest I can get is "it takes power to pump water to reservoirs" and if this is now an issue........

Water rations anyone?

Since when are offices at home against the law?

To be fair, they said "backyards" - which implies welders, mechanics etc.
However, I have learned never to read into these things - they are badly worded.
I just kick up a fuss at any police-state actions like these.
Next thing is I get arrested for working on my notebook at the pool.....

And what about the artist who is painting outside, or the lady seamstress who moves her sewing machine out onto the patio.

Again, this country is becoming a criminal state. Oppressive tactics are pushed onto the backs of the good citizens - and the criminals run free.

The department also said that by 2010, customers who used 500kWh or more had to be on time-of-use tariffs, which charge more for electricity at certain times. :(

All these mindless press releases must be coded communications for...some devious underground conspiracy. 'Cause it sure as hell doesn't make sense.

lol:D I guess he has one in his back garden, because he is gesup most of the time when he is on the forum, he talks a lot of k@k.

Sorry for that moment of derailage,(new word):D. Back to the topic:
I think it's a wonderful idea to report your next door neighbor for abusing the power and having bright light on all night, people should act responsible
and take care of their resources.

GTi : it doesn't know what alcohol is, its not old enough yet.

As for this spying on my neighbours, not a fsck..... If a neighbour is wantonly wasting electricity, then the guavamint/municipality can see that their usage is WAY above the average for the surrounding houses. I am not going to do their work for them.

Dear Eskom,

I live next door to to a guy by the name of Alex Erwin. Not only does he not switch off anything, I strongly suspect that he is one of the prime movers behind our current problems.

Sincerely,

Thabo.

So now instead of the TV license guy beating down your door, the eskom guy is going to pitch up. When will this madness stop. They should look at these big shopping complexes that leave all their lights on at night.

But now what about using energy saver flood lights? I have 2 x 18w floodlights and 4 normal 11w energy saver outside lights total 80watt. How can anyone know what type of globe you have in your light fitting?

Incompetent people clutching at straws again.

I am not impressed.

Words are inadequate to express my feeling, but yes, they can get lost in general.

OK so I report you.

Is the innocent until guilty right of the constitution now repealed? How about having to prove a case in court?

Or do we just accept kangaroo courts?

This 500KW thing is annoying me more and more.

If I use 510KW as a household of 5, I am going to be penalised whereas the bachelor in a small one bedroom apartment with 3 aircons, and a tumbledryer that uses 490KW will be OK.

Punishing the consumer for usage, not usage habits is STUPID.
