Lol.
Grandpa, where you going?
To fix a generator at Koeberg.
One of those is believed to be in his late 80s - undoubtedly with plenty of experience - but possibly an indication of just how much trouble the state power utility is in.
Solidarity trade union spokesman Jaco Kleynhans said re-hiring retired engineers could only be seen as a short-term solution.
In the longer term more people would have to be trained.
No ****! If you are 80, no one is going to be paying you monthly in advance, are they :D :D
Eskom also needed to come up with creative ways of retaining skilled workers.
Cryonics? :D
Eskom said it was not aware of a consultant in his 80s being pulled on board, but that it did not keep that kind of information.
More LIESSSS!!! It is called an IDNumber, and you need it to employ a SA citizen. Sure, one or two people may be passport-only, but to say you do not store an ID Number or Passport Number is bogus.

see no problem - if his mind is still sharp then go for it Eskom :D
wonder if Prof GT is still at Tuks - iirc he's a metallurgical engineer.
he taught (still teaches ?) 2nd year material science to the mech engineering students.

O - Agreed.
I was just poking fun.
However, the real story is if they are trying to lure back geriatrics, then there must be a skills shortage - despite the claims by !Smart-Alec and Eskom to the contrary.

A half blind, crippled, brain dead 65 year old suffering from alzheimer's is more competent than those currently running things.

I need not agree with you - Eskom has come to that conclusion for us. ;)

Gramps - eishhh... now where did I put those spent nuclear fuel rods?
Rookie - Inside the manager's office.
Gramps - Ahhh... you're right, they can jolly well stay there, they're too hazardous to move around.

I'm told that people that get rehired coin it big time. They get their usual pension + consultants fees...which are usually fairly high because no medical etc is provided:)
As long as they can fix Eskom's fvck-up then I don't care who they are...and I doubt anybody else does either.

Eskom should invite Homer Simpson over from the Springfield nuclear plant. I'm sure he could enlighten us.
Homer J. Simpson, currently works in Sector 7-G as the Safety Inspector and has been with the company in some capacity since the birth of his first child Bart. He mostly works in a control room sitting in front of a T-437 Safety Command Console, but has little idea how to operate it (in one episode he was replaced by a chicken pecking at the buttons, and in another, by a brick tied with a rope to a lever on Homer's control panel). Often he just reclines in his chair, snoozing or eating donuts. Homer was appointed the safety inspector by Mr. Burns in season one after he lost his job as the plant's technical supervisor for driving an electric car into a steam pipe while waving to Bart, who is on a field trip. He frequently takes "leaves of absence" from (or flat-out quits) his job whenever something interesting comes up. This typically goes either unnoticed or without consequence by his superiors (although in one episode Homer claims he can't go back - "not the way I quit"). Smithers claims in "See Homer Run" that Homer pays a homeless man to fill in for him. Homer even had Mr. Burns fill in for him when he decided to cut out early though Mr. Burns pretty much did the same thing Homer does - sit back and relax. Although the safety of the plant—and Springfield—has been imperiled more than once on Homer's watch, he still keeps his job. Depictions of Homer's role in the plant vary. An early episode showed the safety job to be both an important job and Homer's ambition, and in You Only Move Twice, he is sought as the only senior employee apart from Burns and Smithers, suggesting a very flat hierarchy. In other depictions, Homer is the lowest-ranking person in the power plant org chart, subordinate to an Inanimate Carbon Rod, and additionally holds a record for longest time spent in an entry-level position. Homer is well known for his incompetence and stupidity in working at the plant, but various episodes suggest most of the other employees are just as bad: screaming and panicking at everything from meltdown alerts to fire drills; holding cockfights and chess matches instead of working; beating one another with chairs, drinking heavily, or simply crying at their desks; engaging in "Nap Time"; and even removing emergency procedure posters to make into get-well-soon cards (one of Lenny and Carl's worst violations). At one point he used an endangered manatee to cover for him eventually causing it to become severely dehydrated. One-time legal owner of Springfield Nuclear Power Plant after freeing the previous owner, Canary M. Burns from his cage. Homer, after being made the owner by Mr Burns, promptly fired him.

Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger said they were looking for experts on the technical side but could not confirm how many retired staff had come on board.
THATS weired...I thought we HAD experts in our country? If this is the case, who the hell are running the "technical" side at the moment?
"Part of our recruitment drive includes inviting back engineers who are able to make a contribution," he said.
I like THIS bit...These guys were recruited YEARS ago...lol
...it just sounds weired though :D
The reason Eskom was currently producing less than 80 percent of the electricity it had capacity to generate was because it didn't have the skilled staff to fix the faults at its power stations.
aint this a shame...this might answer my 1st question

I hope the pensioners are charging them consultant rates and making a fortune off Eskom's incompetence. :)

Me too. Only problem is that Eskom will simply increase the public tariff so as not to impact salaries and bonuses.
Fire these incompetent idiots. They will burn better than wet coal.
