Has anyone attended the MPH show (car stunt show & exhibition with the TopGear presenters) at The Dome this weekend? I'm going on Sunday and was wondering about your experiences. I hope it's worth it

yea i did ... its was ok ... end was stoopid ....
I was there on Friday night. It was great, but the music was WAAAAAY too loud. Add to that some &^%@! pyro firework going off 5 metres from where you are sitting every now and then without warning.

My dad and I flew up for the Saturday show. We went to last year's show and although this year was a good event it wasn't as good as last year's in both show & expo. All the best cars were hidden at the top in dull lighting while you're more commercially viable cars were strewn with spotlights and over-eager sales reps. They also didn't have as many classics as last year either.
As for the show, Clarkson and Hammond were great. However, poor Sasha couldn't really hold his own with the caliber of the two Poms' personalities. The showcase of cars in the were really the only highlight, Lolly's Zonda F was there as well as an extremely rare Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. Only 500 of these beauties have ever been made so it was a real treat to see one of these in the flesh. It would've been nicer to cars like these in the main exhibition area but then the show would've only been left with the below-average stunts, some of which were repeated from last year (totally new show? Yeah right!).
Overall, I still think it's the best car show South Africa will see for a long time and there's no doubt I will be attending next year's show.
I made a video montage of last year's show and posted it to YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abclJYLlxM0
The MPH '08 montage will be up sometime this week :D

^ I think Auto Africa beats it - more cars, more girls, more lights

well, I attended today. The exhibition was okay. As mentioned there were actually some very cool cars at the top level. But the whole exhibition seems very much like an afterthought to the show. The whole MPH thing was very commercial and yet the ticket prices were quite steep (and I paid R170 - R100 less than the people sitting 1m away from me - in the same ultra uncomfortable seats). I think the show was good as it's the first time I saw something like that.
Overall I think there isn't really something to compare it to, but other car events like Auto Africa offer much better value for money.
PS I heard the Renault F1 roadshow is returning to Sandton this year. It offers about the same spectacle - and its FREE!!
