Hi all,
I've created a Windows Vista Sidebar Gadget that monitors the Eskom load status, and displays a matching gauge image. It will also beep when the status changes. Click on the image to go to the PowerAlert website if you want to verify the load status.
So grab the gadget here at: http://gallery.live.com/LiveItemDetail.aspx?li=8232c061-33ed-4c11-94a1-13eb0fb0945d
Just download, and double-click on the file, then add it to your sidebar from the Gadget gallery.
A major shortcoming of it right now is that you can't indicate a proxy. I'll add that soon so check for updates. It checks the status every minute. I'll also make that modifiable.
Enjoy!
Regards,
Darryl Pentz

I have uploaded a new version that includes automatic proxy detection and settings to modify how often the state is updated, but the Windows Live Gallery guys have to approve any updates before they are made available to Joe Public, and they seem to be taking their time doing that.

jondo_h the background for the gadget should be transparant, also, rather make it thinner with a barr type of thing =====*== than another round thing.
Also, it was permanently on Green, didnt update!... - had to remove it because it didnt work and its a little fugly!... Great idea tho!.

Hey LabAnimal,
Yeah it was something I did really quickly and just grabbed those images off the web. They came with a white block background unfortunately, and graphics isn't my strong suite. But if I have some time this week I'll take your recommendations on board. The problem with it not-updating is something I noticed after my machine when into sleep mode. So now I refresh the counter every time it updates. In other words, clicking "Refresh" *should* fix that problem. I can't disagree, it's a little 'fugly' as you say, but it'll get there. Thanks all for taking the time to give it a look though. Good to get feedback.
And LabAnimal, Glenwood... my old stomping grounds. Grew up in McDonald Rd, just up from Kildare Rd. But went to the better school of course... DHS. ;-)

Oh, there is a bug I discovered over the weekend. Seems the images were named green_high when it actually should be green_low... as per the convention with the other colours. So over the weekend the gauge would have been at green level 1 even though the website showed green level 3. The 'danger' colours are correct though. :)
