The installation of Eskom's new smart meters could take much longer than previously anticipated. (http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/Power_Crisis/0,,2-7-2335_2268464,00.html)

Lol. Since they only came up with this plan last week, "previously anticipated" doesn't have quite the impact it normally has :D

Not enough people to install them, basically. And even if they outsource, they want Eskom people to oversee the installation... and they don't have enough people to do that, either.

The shortage of technicians could hinder Eskom's plans.

And that is also unexpected?

Let us see:

Say we get really good techies that can install one in an hour.
Let us also say they can walk up a road, doing each house. Everyone is home etc.

To do 3 million, with a 10hour working day, would mean each person can do 10 a day.
That means, one person working 7 days a week, can do about 3500 a year.
So, to do 3 million in a year, we will need 1000 of these super heroes.

We had a meter installed a few years ago - took 3 guys an hour. So, it is possible to do them all in a year with say 5000 techies - thats 7 hours working a day, 7 days a week, with some people not being home etc.

I wonder how long they thought it would take? A week?

They'll drop them in the postbox together with a 5 line explanation as to installation.

What more do you want?

lol - not going to get it in the post box - what with the 5 billion pamphlets that are dumped in there weekly.
