Two great photography podcasts
This Week In Photography - http://www.twipphoto.com/ - a new podcast with Alex Lindsay and Scott Bourne
Tips from the top floor - http://www.tipsfromthetopfloor.com/ - starring Chris Marquardt
Anyone have more to recommend?

Two more: The first one is very basic stuff - very cool for beginners. It's called Rick Sammon's Canon EOS Digital Rebel Personal Training Photo Workshop (http://eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-0470180757,descCd-DOWNLOAD.html). The link doesn't have a subscription link to the podcast, probably because it doesn't run any more. But the podcasts are still available via iTunes.
The second one is called Photography 101 (http://photooneoone.blogspot.com/) by Scott Wittenburg (I don't know who he is) - it's slightly more exciting stuff, presented in a sould distroyingly boring voice.
Can we abuse this thread and turn it into a photography podcasts/mags/books thread? :)

Please do !!
I am a newbie to the art of taking pictures, but struggle to find a solid source of info. Buying books seems so 90's :)
I recently got a Canon 400D with the kit lens, and also managed to pick up a Canon 50mm F1.8 mark 1 lens second hand. the 50mm is an awesome lens (in my "no experience" opinion) its been discontinued for a long time already, and suppose to be better than the mark 11 lens, which is available now.
I am in the market at the moment for a relatively good lens in the "everyday sort of general usage" range, but my budget is a bit on the low side. I have been looking at this one though as a possibility.

OK. Recently the guys at TWIP (http://twipphoto.com/) interviewed (http://twipphoto.com/index.php/archives/282) photographer Joe McNally and discussed his book, "The Moment It Clicks." I had no intention of buying this, but I was surprised to see it in my local bookshop, picked it up and paged through it, and before I knew it I was handing over the money. It's a mix of tips/technique and a photo book - very inspirational stuff. You can get it from kalahari.net (http://www.kalahari.net/books/The-Moment-It-Clicks/632/32430980.aspx) and Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Moment-Clicks-Photography-Secrets-Shooters/dp/0321544080/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209547964&sr=8-1).

If it wasn't for photography books I don't think I would ever have taken notice. I paged through my dad's books when I was a kid (as in 6 or 7 years old) and liked the pictures. I eventually read through them when I understood enough English to make sense of it, and I was pretty much hooked.
I find books more informative than magazines. And I find older books in general better value, since they are are entirely devoted to taking better pictures instead of fixing bad pictures in Photoshop.

How many photography/camera threads have we had now? I think we might have a case for rpm to create a Photography topic now?

Maybe the case for it is getting stronger but I fear it might kill off the need for a multimedia section all together.

Well, maybe people won't feel so intimidated by us any more and start posting their music collection screenshots again :p

Books are good (was just joking about not buying books) but there is so many that I dont even know where to start. Will take a look at the one you mentioned. Also read that "understanding exposure" by Bryan Peterson is suppose to be pretty good.
Do you have any opinion on this lens. As far as value for money goes, I guess. Or do you have any other recommendations in that price range.

I have ordered it - waiting for my copy to arrive. Unfortunately I ordered it along with another book that's not in stock and I opted for "send everything together." But that's OK, I have a lot to read in the meantime.

I'm not familiar with it but read this review (http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/Canon%20EOS%20Lens%20Tests/45-canon-eos-aps-c/320-sigma-af-18-200mm-f35-63-dc-lab-test-report--review). If you want to get it go for this (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3324&navigator=6) one though - it has OS (Sigma's Optical Stabilizer). Here's the review (http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/Canon%20EOS%20Lens%20Tests/45-canon-eos-aps-c/321-sigma-af-18-200mm-f35-63-dc-os-canon-test-report--review).
