Only problem with the 130i is the practicality of it compared to the GTi... other than that the beemer is miles better.

If I was looking for a fast, but practical hatchback it would be the GTi all the way...
If I didn't mind sacrificing some practicality then it would be the 130/135

well thats what i say since i drive a 130i but some others beg to differ
and the whole practicality issue is nonsense, i regularly go out with a group of friends. in total their is 5 of us since most of the time im the designated driver! anyway back to pmy point , we all go ou and fit comfortably in my car without a problem, they boot is also big enough, so how aint it practical?? btw the fuel consumption is brilliant for a 3 litre

oh ps whips the **** out the gti and when you go throught that last toll on the way to durban, it feels and SOUNDS like you driving another car!

ooh **** sorry that posted before i finished
so was driving back around 180km/h and then there were 2 gtis in front giving people hell on the road so decided to give them some hell! the rufused to let me pass on the right lane cause they thought they were the shizzle anway overtook them on the left lane and made them look like they were standing still!!
lol oh and i dont have the 130i kit on my car so they didnt know it was a 130i - they may have been pissed

it depends on how far back the driver sits, im tall and they still manage fine in the back!!

Thats it... its a personal opinion...
I'm used to the size of golf boots, and the amount of rear legroom in the car, and the BMW 1 series doesn't even begin to come close to the Golf in my opinion.

Wtf, this is like comparing an M3 to a C200k. The 130i is close to R100k more than the GTi, so how is this a fair comparison?

Jeremy clarckson is a car god!! moving on 130i beats gti...not by far but it does!! and if the gti's been chipped and turbo upgraded jst throw the 135i into the mix...will eat it up and spit the gti out!! oh and the 135i has a spacious boot..lol!!

i was in the new M3and a 135i was in front ... that 135i was not just faster than the M3, my god it was much much faster!!! ... 130i is over R300k right ... and with the 135i at R365k its a no brainer ... 135i best bang for buck car ... even if you thinking of spending 1million rand on a new car ... 135i till gonna whip its ass ... scared to think what it will do with a chip :O

I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest BMW fan, but this is probably going to be my next car. Unless off course Audi can come up with something equally good within the next two years :D

The M3 and 135i have no problem putting down all that power. The 135i has a power to weight advantage over the M3.

The M3 has a bit of an issue puttin down the power..it has 90kw more power than the 135i yet it struggles beating it..yes the m3 weighs more but that shouldn't be a problem with 309kw under the hood...so the answer is the m3 has wheelspin when u pull away the 135i doesn't!! ive mashed the pedal in a 135i on pull away and no wheelspin!! ive seen new M3's pull off and spin!!

Whats a 100kg compared to 80+kw? My golf was only 74kw...
The average person weighs 70kg, so a passenger in the 135 will mean what? Nothing coz the 135 will still win.
