Ok so I went to see my physician after work today because it turns out that I have sleeping disorder where falling off to sleep is very difficult.
Anyway the good doc wrote me a script for these pills, and they're way cool! Just popped one about half an hour ago, and it feels kinda like you're drunk but without the heavy head. This seems to have the effect of 3 or 4 heavy shots :D
Now I know why people get hooked on sleeping tablets! Anyone here been on something similar?

..be sure to read the small folded up paper that came with the pills, especially the part where they tell you what the side effects are when overdosing
yeah, please don't pull a Ledger on us Highflyer.
It's a gift from the g-ds.
Just a word of advice: Don't take it on planes - if you don't fall asleep (likely), you trip like hell and the cabin crew spend half the journey trying to keep you calm.

I used Prozac for a while, but obviously not for sleeping problems :D .
That was the best experience I ever had with any prescription drug. After a week or so, they start start kicking in, and every night at about 21:00, I could not keep my eyes open! A few nights I literally fell asleep with my cellphone in my hand, while I was busy SMSing someone. Stong stuff!!
Of course, it is not to be used as a sleeping pill. The real effect came a while later - it totally numbed my emotions in the weirdest way. I would be in a situation where the normal human reaction would be e.g. to get angry or happy, but I could feel no such emotions. Cognitively, you know how you ought to react, but it feels like you cannot summon the 'correct' emotion - there is just nothing.
Now I am happily back to being myself - emotions and all.

There was a thread sometime last year about anti-depressants and it was amazing how commonly this effect was reported by ad users. I myself experienced exactly this too.

Lots of factors can play a part - even your thoughts just before bedtime can keep you up. For me it was just a bunch of thoughts keeping me up, leading to you becoming restless.
/serious post coming up...
There are some amnesic effects that started happening the past few days. I got up, fried some eggs, went back to sleep - at 2am :D Didn't recall doing any of that!

I don't drink (apart from a few Hunters) so I haven't experience being totally plastered. These meds do make you seem you more light-headed though and sometimes it feels good, but sometimes it sucks balls (walking into a door as you try opening it.

Personally I hate it. When you say you can't fall off to sleep how bad is it. Because to be taking pills one would think it has to be real bad.

Sleep at 3am, wake up at 6am, for about 1,5 years. This led to lethargy at work, which wasn't good for my career. Only 3 of these pills left though, then I'm all clear :D

Had a read through this thread and have found it interesting. Personally, I am glad I don't have a sleeping disorder. I'm terrified of getting hooked on pills. Don't want to crave anything worse than I crave chocolate :D ... Anyhow, I had an op on the 18th and was prescribed some sleeping pills. I took a whole one Tuesday night, after the op ... was talking to someone in the ward and could barely concentrate. Felt like falling over ... Not fun!

How do you get by on that at all. You must be a mess. Even today I could only handle a few nights in a row . When I was sick insomnia would leave me unable to move literally with a heart rate well over 100 and I still wouldn't take meds.
Then again I've had very bad experiences with them. Don't think you have much choice unfortunately.

Yeah it was getting quite hectic but I didn't have much of a choice, needed to work quite a lot of late nights. And off days didn't help because I've already adjusted to that weird sleeping pattern. New job is normal 9-5 so hopefully it's all gone now :D
According to the doc a two week prescription of this would work well as a quick fix because it wasn't really insomnia, I just became nocturnal over the years.

I dunno what the doc gave me, but was feeling really ill one day, throwing up all over the show. Went to the hosp. and the doc stuck a needle in my a$$ cheek, after that he told me to take 2 of these anti-nausea tablets now and also try not to do anything like drive ( luckily i was taken by my mom to the hosp. )
Looked at him funny thinking why cant i drive and on the way home, whatever this stuff was, knocked me out cold. Woke up sometime during the night went to the kitchen and my mom just asked if i slept well.
I responded with "What time is it, i couldnt have slept maybe a few hours" ( thinking thats its still night time ).
Mom looked at me and laughed... " Actually you have been sleeping for two days ".

During placebo-controlled clinical studies in which 1,003 patients received triazolam Tablets ( halcion ), the most awesome side effects were extensions of the pharmacologic activity of triazolam, e.g. drowsiness ( just your typical high ), dizziness ( after hitting that "bucket" ), or light-headedness ( after polishing that case of man cans ).... no need for crack or tik ne more kids here's your real all-in-one remedy

I have taken zolpidem for two repeat prescriptions of six packets per script. They are wonderful for getting you off to sleep. The body however does get "used" to them. At first many people experience some psychedelic effects, such as moving walls "a waving motion", visual impairment, hallucination and morphing of two objects to become one strange looking thing you can't quite figure out what it is.
After some time these effects vanish and you simply get tired and heavy and fall asleep. In the morning there is some feeling of a hangover, but it goes quickly and if you get a full 12 hours of rest you will not have these symptoms. I do NOT recomend driving early morning after going to sleep the night before on these as your reactions are still very sluggish.
Don't take more than one at a time, usually you just vomit if you pop two at a time. A high enough dosage of zolpidem is potentially life threatening.
I've drank alcohol before taking this medication and it does not seem to have side effects, this could differ between individuals.
Anything else you want to know? Just ask.

I have taken this medicine for 4 months now due to not being able to sleep with the depression medicines I'm on. Zolpidem (http://www.ambienzolpidem.com/) works wonders. I had a few odd moments where my child found me sleep walking, just in the fridge, hungry I guess. I saw things the first time I took a whole 10 mg. I'm glad others wrote reviews because my husband thought I was mental. Other then that it's been a blessing. I wake up at 6:30 every morning refreshed and brand new. I would tell anyone if you take it laying down. Don't go walk around it's meant for bedtime for a reason. It's worth a try for anyone not being able to sleep. Oh also I sleep from 9 to 6 every night. I may wake up once and I take nothing else for sleep.
Just a word of advice: Don't take it on planes - if you don't fall asleep (likely), you trip like hell and the cabin crew spend half the journey trying to keep you calm.
I take them on planes all the time, especially when flying over time-zones to force myself into the new time-zone quicker. I take one about 30 minutes before planning to go to sleep. Then I usually start "waking up" about 4 hours later. Then I pop another one and I can sleep for another 3 hours or so. But sleeping on a plane in economy class isn't really sleeping for me, it's more like dozing off repeatedly such that I lose track of time. And I have no hangover afterwards, the drowziness just diminishes gradually. I have actually taken two at a time a couple of times, but it didn't feel much different than taking only 1.

Somnil does the trick for me and has been for the last 2 years.i just take a half about an hour before bed and even though i'm still restless and wide awake when i get into bed, it just does its thing and i'm out cold.
i honestly have NO idea how ppl can sleep at night without drugs.maybe i just don't do enough during the day but still its more of a mental thing.

I am hooked on sleeping pills and i honestly could not care. Going to bed knowing i will fall asleep is addictive. Yea positive dude it is a mental thing for sure.
I cannot sleep without my tablet, i lie there wishing i had taken one. My heart races and i can lie awake for hours. It was a nightmare before i got a script
