Hi all, I have a JVC now in my car, and quite happy with it. The only extra it has, is it can play mp3 cd's. Okay I wont be buying a new one for now, but was just wondering what make is better, not a gold plated one, but for us normal guys out there. Will it be Panasonic, pioneer, JVC, or what would you say is better. Oh and not that boom boom stuff, just the normal ones.

Clarion and Alpine decks with JL Audio amp and speakers. Remember, amp and speakers are not necessarily there for "boom boom" as you so eloquently put it but rather for better sound reproduction and appreciation. Most good quality speakers require an amp. Pretty pricey though, but worth it if quality is what you are after.

My preference is Pioneer and Clarion head units, Infinity, Pioneer, JBL, Pyle, Alpine or Polk for high and mid range, MB quartz, Kicker, Pioneer, Rockford Fosgate, for low. All you need is a 10" sub to fill the low end. All nice and clear, clean with no drone. Amp - Rockford, JBL, Kenwood, JL, Kicker.

Nothing wrong with JVC

I have one in my car and a motherload of sound.
I have never ever had any issues with a JVC head unit

I've also had quite a few JVC decks, currently have a budget Pioneer in my car that does MP3's asa well. I'm looking at getting a DVD headunit that does gigamp3 and has USB as well. Probably around 2500 or so.

My ideal system would be the following

Amps - RF or Soundstream
High and mid - Hertz or RF
Bass - RF or Kicker
Headunit - Clarion or Alpine
LCD's - Clarion
Cabling - Sidewinder
Battery - Gellcell of some kind

Why not Soundstream subs?

I use a JVC, with some pioneer 6X9 speakers, Star Sound sub, Tarqa(sp?) amp. The sound is so nice I can't get enough of it. I miss it already. I honestly can't drive a car without good sound and deep house music.

Reminds me of a billboard... Drive a Becker

Prices seem a bit hi now .. on this site anyway, but a usb slot is really nice in a new one and a jack input socket ... my friend connects his cell to it and the music plays out the car speakers.

Why not Soundstream subs?

I've seen/heard them in huge installations in the UK and they're pretty wicked. I just thought I'd mention my 2 favourite.

Sony is great when it comes to lasting forever...
My front loading CD Player which is around 10 years old... still works :)
Alpine is great when it comes to sound quality...

I love my JVC with shuttle. Very user friendly interface, you never need to look down...

I've just bought a Kenwood USB/MP3 head unit, it was on special at Kay Makan and what I like most about is the fact the USB port runs out the back rather than get in the way of you're left hand like most of the other LHD favouring head units. It's got RDS to boot.
