I'd suggest everyone check their electricity bill carefully. There is some major screw-iness there. I just checked ours and their stupid averaging technique is way off.

We're probably going to get almost 2 years worth of credits because the meter reading and the reading on the bills is *way* off.

Also noticed the neighbor is smoking through his electricity more than twice as fast as we are....maybe I can report him to the electricity Gestapo.:D

It doesn't help if there is screw-iness on your bill. I have had major complaints about mine and what happens? ..... pay or we cut you off, the stock standard response.

Tell me if this makes sense: pool pump = 2 hours every 3rd day, geyser = 1 hour a day, 3 outside lights (all energy saving bulbs) and 3 inside lights (2 energy saving) every night, PC = 10 hours a day, stove = 1 hour a day, 2 fridges, 2 floor fans and obviously the TV. Monthly bill = nothing lower than R1200 every month. The best part is that the last time someone actually came to read the meter was August last year. Phoned about that and got told, no the guy was at your home in December and just last week!!! Funny, must have been invisible.

pay or we cut you off, the stock standard response.
And thats when you drag them to court and sue them for the balance + interest + inconvenience of being cut off.

They are effectively charging twice as much as were actually using so a standard response is just not going to cut it.

Eish - I use twice that (appliance wise) and have a home office and only use R500-R600 a month.

I must start doing my own readings.... The meter is about 5m from my gate. Just in case.....

Always check your meters, ESKOM and municipality WILL "screw" you over, trust me I know, I work with a bill that is in the 2 million range every month!
