Havent been here for a while...
Last time I checked only Vodacom allowed you to buy data data bundles using pay-as-you-go cash, not MTN.
Has this changed??
Im really not happy with Vodacom in my area and want to give MTN a shot on HSDPA.
Also...if it is possible on MTN, can you use the pre-loaded cash from a top-up contract to pay for bundles?
Thanks!!

I use MTN pay-as-you-go for my data bundles, R1 = 1 MB

I'm using MTN data bundles with a vodafone data card and am VERY happy. I'm on pay-as-you-go.

I should have mentioned their new prices are awesome. R289 for a 1Gig per month, and this in HSDPA

Yellow Skrokkie, welcome back :)
Yes you can buy data bundles in cash, one per 30 day period, the topups though still use data bundles as an extra service as opposed to using the airtime for a data bundle, that hasnt changed.

As you know getting info from a helpdesk, such as MTNs, is futile; I got that info off mybroadband.
Anyway, whats the easiest way to load these bundles? is there a *xxx# number like with VC?

Be warned with MTN - you can only use 1 (and only one) bundle per month.
I.e. if you buy 1 Gb and finish it by the 20th day in a 30 day period allowed - you cannot add more!
With Vodacom you can top up with another 500 Mb if you like.
I can say this, the MTN connection was more stable, the vodacom one connection was marginally faster.
I'm using vodacom on ad hoc basis due to MTN stupidity above.

I don't Understand why MTN is doing this?
If I remember correctly vodacom had this "1 bundle a month" too, a while ago.... i might be wrong:rolleyes:
Doesn't MTN realize that this way they lose money, and perhaps even customers, as that just sucks - ive used like 600 of my 2000 Megs in one weekend on vodacom, fear i might need to fish out another R389:D

It is inconvenient but not a huge issue with SIM cards being quite cheap. Mind you MTN have been switching off SIMS that haven't been used for 30 days pretty rapidly. I've got quite a collection of INVALID SIMs.
Am I right in saying that on Voda, if you top up, you have to use the topup within the same 30 days as before. So if you topup after 20 days you've only 10 days to use the new topup??!

No, you're not right. Bundles last 30 days from purchase.
