Travel Health Advice

As I mentioned in another thread, my brother and his gf are coming for a holiday from Scotland and I was wondering ... are there vaccination requirements to enter the country or are they more like a recommended thing (eg: malaria)? Just wondering in case he hasn't done too much homework (which he probably hasn't). Thanks.
