no, i have not used it. but from what i see on their site it is not nearly so actively developed as ubuntu, which might be a better choice.

Rather get Ubuntu, or Kubuntu if you like the KDE desktop which PCLinuxOS uses.

It got a good review in a recent Linux Format magazine - though I don't think that choosing a distro because it looks like windows is a good idea. It is not windows, you'll just be fooling yourself.

If you want to try linux, you can't go wrong with ubuntu.

I can't say that I have.

I use Linux because I like Linux, I don't want to use a distribution of Linux masquerading around as Windows :D

With Compiz Fusion around, why would anyone want Linux to look like Vista in the first place?

PCLinuxOS is like that annoying attention whore at school who tries to dress like all the popular girls so she will be noticed.

Pass.

Firstly, I'm an Ubuntu fan and will continue using it. That said, PCLinuxOS overtook Ubuntu on DistroWatch.org, as the "most downloaded distro" for a few months running. I believe this is because it eases the transfer from Windows to Linux quite well. No reason to diss them for managing to draw more people to the Linux stable.

If it requires less technical tinkering to get the 3D and multimedia working, why not? If people are able to get working faster in Linux because of this, why not as well?

I tend to agree with you, flarkit.

I was thinking in the concept of offering it to my clients as a Windows alternative.

I have used Ubuntu and still like it but Ubuntu doesn't "do" it for me.

Ah well, personal choice...

Try it (PCLinux2007). Use it. Decide you don't like it. Try another one.

If you don't have it yet and are deciding on a distro, I've liked these distros - Fedora 8 or Debian. Which are in fact the ones I use.

I tend to agree. Give it a try, as long as Miscrosoft can loose one more client ;)

Ah well, personal choice...

Why don't people understand that particular aspect of OSS and the various distros? This gives people the opportunity to learn something and make an informed choice for themselves.

I would actually like to see some efforts towards presenting some unified releases of Linux that address some broad needs (server/enterprise level, home use and office use, or similar), combining the efforts a few of the diverse groups out there. I just think it would be awesome if all that incredible intellectual ability were working towards more focussed goals. But many people feel this would go against the principle of "personal choice", which one of OSS's foundations.

I haven't used this version, rather, one of the older ones. I must say though that I am a fan of this distro. Takes all the best elements from Mandriva and adds their own unique cool things.

Just a pity they don't have more exposure and help to build the system up.
