Whats the highest speed you ever clocked up? I always do 140-160 en route to Vredenburg with my Yaris T3. But since I got my co. car (Polo) I do 180-190. I know its so irresponsible of me but that road hardly ever has any yraffic on it. I know I should stick to 150 max. I also try to save time, cause if I stick to 120 it takes me about 3hrs! 6hrs is really a lot to waste per day! So when I do 190 it only takes me just 3hrs to and fro! I really have no much choice on this one. I also cant afford to wake up at 5 and leave at 6 in order to be at the sites in time!!

esp on public rds.
You never know when a kid could run out..or a goat...or a pothole :P
The fastest iv been tho is 200 but that was on a closed runway in Zambia.
never on pub roads..not worth it for manslaughter charge and subsequent anal rape IMPO

210 as passenger, 145 as driver.
I don't mind when people speed on deserted highways....but the people that drive above the speedlimit during rushhour are @ssholes imo....disrupts the traffic flow and endangers others.

Agreed, its insane, whatever the reason! I just need to wake up much early and take it easy. Funny cause I've always told myself that I will never go above 150 whatever the reason, I guess I just got a bit carried away! I certainly dont wanna die like that!

When I was young and stupid, I would drive back to my army base at 4 in the morning. Best overall time was 45 min for 130km, which included 10 km on sand road, and going through Germiston City Centre. My fastest was on the N1 past Pretoria: I had the speedo needle on my Cressida (which had oversized tyres) locked up against the tripmeter reset button (beyond the end of the 190kph-marked speedo) with the revs still climbing. I slowed down to 160 on the sand road though.
I'm amazed nothing ever went wrong - I very rarely go past 140 now.

Dude, be considerate. The road might be empty but it's a national road and you're not exempt from the rules if the road is deserted. Just wake up a bit earlier and take it easy on the roads.

I also got somewhat scared and backed off, I reckon the car could have done 260... but not a chance I was gonna do that.

Fastest Ive done with me driving is 140 in corsa 1.4, but was on long open roads.
Normally do about 80 on normal roads
140km/h quite often, but rarely lift up to 160km/h. Everything depends on the conditions. If it's a highway I don't know, I won't go above 130 unless I can see very clearly and very far. My biggest vice is doing 100+ for short stints on days like today where the roads are empty on the way to work. It's not a highway, so it's not as safe.

I once went 220km/h in someones Mazda RX-8. I didn't drive it though :( (23:00 in the evening) and we first made sure it was a deserted road. I live in a rural area so it wasn't that big a problem.
But it was only for a short burst then we came down to legal speed again.
In my own car (1997 Corolla 160i GL) the most I've done was 160.

Has anyone ever wondered why spedo's read in km/h? You have to travel for an hour to go that far. Why dont they read in meters/second - its a bit more in touch with whats happening. Like if it says you are doing 20m/s you know that in 1 second you are going to be 20 meters ahead of where you are now. 120km/h is just a number - people can't visualize it.

180 km/h with a Ford Bantam 1.3i (Limits and struggles to get there)
This is down hill, safe spot, rural area, double lane... Also has a steep incline after the downhill so you slack down to about 130 again and you can see if anyone is near, probably the safest spot to do so... Only do it at that spot, normally cruise at 130 (Because any faster and you can get a ticket in 120 zone)

Amusing how everyone who is actually honest enough to admit to having driven fast is quick to add a justification.. (empty road, checked conditions etc.. ) :p :D
I've never taken a car beyond 180... I have nipped my bike up to about 220 for a few seconds.. erm on a .. uh.. long stretch of open road.. :o (well seriously it was! :p)
Remember typical speedo's show a slower speed by at least about 10km/h..
If you frequent the open roads (as I do) you'll quickly start to notice just how many people (most of them actually) are quite OK with cruising at around 140 on long stretches..
Just today I observed a traffic cop (citi golf) passing cars which were traveling at around 120 in a 60 zone.. A few kilometers up the road this same cop suddenly whips on his siren and pulls over another guy in front who passed a truck by crossing a double barrier line..

are you kidding? Youll happily post your ILLEGAL speed on this public forum and request others to do the same? Did you not think that a post like this could inadvertently give some poor young idiot the idea to beat your speed? Then lands up in a local hospital because he completely whiped out, possibly even dead. Maybe that guilt will sit with you, maybe not. Regardless posting this is not only childish but incredibly irresponsible on your part.

If u got lots of money.

Here's an L-39 parked at Stellenbosch, some of the guys who own them take people for flights.

Surprisingly, I tend to take it more relaxed and do 110-120km/h.
Can't see what is the good thing to do all rush-hurry-quick just to get there as quick as possible...
Bugger if the guy who want to do 140km/h want to get past /me when I'm overtaking a slow truck, that person can be a bit more patient...

LOL, EMS people are some of the worst speedsters on the road. When I was a kid we made friends with a fire chief that took us for a ride. He put the sirens on an drove down the old Pta road, The top speed we reached was 200, this was during the day.
I dont like to go faster than 140 in my car (1,4 Micra) but it can do that if I need it. I was late for a funeral the other day and we did Malbro to Alberton in 15 mins, at times I was doing 190.... the irony.
On long trips down to CT etc I try to keep my speed under 150. The longer you stay on the road the worse off you are. I feel that driving a little faster than the seed limit will get you there faster and you will be less tired. There is a higher chance of you having an accident if you are tired or fall asleep.

It's quite simple really. The distances you travel are measured in kilometres, and your travel time would be measured in minutes/hours. So measuring in minutes and metres might be logical in a sense, but it's not as practical for daily use. Think big ;)
Another thing is that m/s numbers is 3.6 times smaller than km/h. So you'd be doing 33 on a highway. The bigger numbers are more useful, as you can place more granular restrictions on speeds.

Suppose - although I never really plan how far im going to go, like the trip to work and the like. Dont think they will ever implement because you basically have to rewrite everything

It was R125000 for a 20 minute ride in an English Electric Lightning last year when I checked.
Fuel price has gone up since then.

Other way around : "the tires will only last for about fifteen minutes, but it's OK because the fuel runs out in twelve minutes."

That'll be one expensive 12 minute trip

It's that Koeineggsegggg (http://www.koenigsegg.com/thecars/index.asp?submenu=4) (TopGear spelling) :D
Here's a pic (http://digiads.com.au/car-news/images/thumbs/lrg_article_9608-img_0.jpg) of it. Pretty ugly if you ask me and with a name like that it makes the car even worse looking! IMHO Carrera GT is waaaay cooler ;)
Mine's 262km/h recorded on my Garmin ;) Haven't done that in ages though...

Not in South Africa and at least not planes that can go faster than 700km/h.
You can rent planes in SA. What do you think doing a pilots license is? You rent the plane and pay for fuel and instructor. You can also rent a plane to take a holiday trip somehwere if you want.

For a Cessna 152, I pay around R550 per hour including fuel.
Cessna 172 is R780.
Yak52 around R1800.
U need a licence.

"If God wanted man to fly, he would have given him more money."
Famous quote that.
About 40k to 60k.
This is where I go:
http://www.stelfly.co.za/
Go on one of these, will cost u under R1000, and u get to fly yourself as well:
INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT
If you are unsure of small aircraft and your ability to accept flying in one, then contact us and book an Introductory Flight with one of our instructors. Your instructor will then spend an hour or so with you going over one of our aircraft, and then take you to the skies where you will be able to handle the controls and get the feeling of this exciting way of life.

There's a few at Cape Town International, for Light aircraft, helicopters, jets, etc.
Fisantekraal - outside Durbanville.
Stellenbosch.
One near Koeberg near the sky diving place.
Also a few microlight, paraglider and hang gliding schools.

Speeding
260ish in germany as passenger (autobahn between cologne and dusseldorf)
180 self somewhere between jhb and cpt
Fastest ive been was 160 in a 1.3 Getz. I usually go 140 and didn't notice I increase to that speed.
Was on way to Langebaan from Cape Town. Had the boot packed to the max, a computer system at the back with more luggage packed to max (so I can still see out back). Had two passengers. So I was impressed that the car went that fast without me even noticing.
