View Full Version : Lower end pricing speculation

Neotel has mentioned that there will be other packages.
It is known that they value the cost of the hardware at R80pm (what it actually costs Neotel is an unknown).
Current know package is R599. The only part of value in it is the 10GB data. The 1000minute Neotel-Neotel calls etc are worthless as not enough people are on Neotel. Anyway, Skype would work just as well in most cases for almost freebie calls.
R599 - R80 = R 519. Say Neotel costs the freebies as R19 pm (makes the maths easier), then the 10GB data "costs" R500 - or R50 per GB.
Using this, we could look at a "talk only" package of around R80 pm excluding calls.
A talk + data package would then be around R140 for 1GB of data.
The above is pure speculation based on very little information, but most probably it will be quite close to the actuals if and when Neotel rolls out these entry level type products.
Telkom DoBroadband for 1GB is R199 pm plus R112 pm for line rental = R311 - also excluding calls.
It would seem as if Neotel could undercut Telkom substantially at basic Talk And Data packages.
i would go for R150 for 3 gig and 100 min to all networks

That is what a lot of us are waiting for I reckon.
i would go for R150 for 3 gig and 100 min to all networksThis is not likely. The interconnect rate to mobile networks is very high which means that 100 minutes to all networks will cost around R 150 on its own. If you remove the free minutes (make it on-net maybe) it becomes more feasible (without device cost that is).

I don't really care much for the phone component. I have a mobile I make all my calls from. Who needs a land line at home anyway? What I really want is well priced data packages with high cap options in the 30GB range with 512k - 1024k speeds.

I don't get why they're not splitting local and international data?
Surely unlimited local + 1/2/5/10 GB international should be one of the options.
Dear NeoTel ,
I hope someone from your marketing department reads these forums.
Simply because a solid business case can be built from this Forum !
We appreciate your R599 package for :
10 Gigs data
1000 Neotel to Neotel Calls
and 50 Neotel to Neotel SMS
However what the ordinary South African needs is :
A package for R 199-00
3 Gigs of data
100 NeoTel to Telkom Calls
50 NeoTel SMS to Any Operator
If a Package like this is launched the uptake will be tremendous and you wont be able to supply the demand !
NEOTEL can make a difference !
The Internet in South Africa is begining to take off but ICASA and the DOC want to ensure Blacks are left out of the Digital Divide. ( Sorry to say that majority of Senior people on ICASA and DOC are actually BLACK )
DXL - Team
Living the dream that one day we might actually Have broadband at 2c a megabyte and mobile Voice Calls at 50c per minute to any number if ICASA and DOC Seniors Can realise that they are Acutally BLACK.

Because the calls are waay cheaper. Cell calls are freakishly expensive. Telkom to telkom calls are way cheaper then cell to cell even on the same network.
