I haven't seen another thread like this.. So, are you going to move to Neotel (current prices and specs) if they are available in your area? Maybe this could be a poll?

Sad to say, but if they offer something faster than 4mbps ADSL at a competitive price, otherwise, no, why downgrade?

well they did say between 300 - 700kb/s so thats fast and dont forget the higher caps so i dont consider this downgrading lol

From a 8Kbs speed [uncapped/shaped] to 18Kbs speed [uncapped/unshaped] it's a no brainer! :D

I think he's talking about 64k uncapped wireless.

I just got off the phone, ordered the Neotel Prime connect and waiting for them to call me back with credit approval.etc.....Great coverage in my area!

I'd switch if they have a fibre option (ADSL or ADSL2+) Also if they come to Cape Town any time soon ;)

I dont want wireless, I even hate using the laptop to connect wirelessly to the router, wireless is just not constant!

nope, i will not consider moving until they have the "fixed line" system in place

300 kilobits/second its just not good enough. Maybe if they could provide constant 2.4Mb/s but then it would have to be a lot cheaper.

I was actually hoping for a decent priced service (such as the prime offering without the free rubbish for R300/month). If that was the case I would've signed up the service and just dropped one of my extra ADSL accounts. R600/month is too expensive for a product which undoubtedly will get exponentially worse as more subscribers sign up.

They said it will take upto 48 hours for them to deliver the device to me. And it seems that today they got some problem with the application system, lady promised to call me in 5 minutes at 10:40 this morning but still no answer......

BTW I am currently with a WISP, used to be uncapped 256k for R850/PM, 7 month ago they said they will upgrade the infrastructure to increase speed to 512 and give me only 8G P/M, out of bundle rate like R120/G.....And till today I haven't seen any increase in speed, but if you exceed your 8G now you will be put on some congested IS backbone opposed to the verizon we have. And no online system to check how much we used each month yet, for the past 3 weeks, internet only work 1-2 hour after 8pm everyday (supposed to be some upgrade they doing now). i have enough and Neotel connect prime is cheaper per month, faster and with cheaper out of bundle rates. It's good enough for me.

No telkom ADSL for me because our area is old, with old cables and we experienced a lot of line problems when I was on dial up. The telkom techie told me they have national problem with cables (not enough cables produced to be installed or replacing stolen ones). So no thanks......

No. Not until they loose the 24 month contract and give me an option for month-to-month

I won't move unless I'm offered a similar service (performance) at better rates for my budget (home use).

At the moment Neotel is way too expensive... I don't use 10GB at home.

Most of my internet usage is at work where Neotel will require a decent track record of service and reliability before it will be considered.

I have the same problem as I am on Aerosat, [PE WISP]

+ uncapped
- 64k
- shaped 24/7
- IS backbone

Basicaly I have been reduced to downloading [about 10GB's a month, stopid idiots I'll DL as much as I can!!] and browse the net used to be able to play Giuld wars with a 300 ping and use my steam account, but since they bummped the "less paying" customer to IS and the "256k+" customers to SAIX, I am unable to stay connected to any servers at all...
Thats why I am looking at the NeoConnect Lite Unlimited Basicaly the same Price as my ISP + Telkom phone line a month.

Simple answer: Yes.

Telkom has been the bane of my life for too long. I'll support NeoTel.

I would goto Neotel (When they get to Cape Town).

Only thing that bothers me about Neotel is...

* The modem (only 1 PC, cuts you off the internet when making/receiving a call?)
* Can't you use other PPPoE accounts (Like IS)
* 24 month contract?

The contract is the main issue. If it was a twelve month contract, then i would consider it, since seacom is due for operation in twelve months.

24 months contract but you just pay some cancellation fee when you want to terminate.

The expensive equipment is what puts me off them. It just results in a 24-month contract, which I REALLY don't want to sign. 2 Years is a heck of a long time.

I'm sure they could offer their modem at R500 if they just removed the telephone part of it, including the fancy-looking screen. Just give us a plain modem at a reasonable price and offer a month-to-month service.

Then I'd switch in a heartbeat!

I doubt if data only contracts are where the gold is for Neotel. Being able to increase spend with each call made off-net must yield big bucks.

It's not really a 24month contract people!!!

You can still cancel your internet service at any time. The only thing you are liable for is the R80 p/m for the device itself.

As for the seacom issue, Neotel will also have access to seacom so I don't see how this is an issue.

I assume that you can then still use the device for voice calls & SMS.

See my post above. If they strip down their device to be just a modem, they can decrease the price from R1920 (R80 x 24) to something more realistic.

But of course they won't do that, since they want you to make calls as well...

The only calls I've EVER made on my Telkom line are the ones to tech support.
