As we nearing closer to the summer transfer window, who do you think will go where/when/how much.
Firstly this one has been coming up a lot here in the uk:
Berbatov to Barcelona for Eto'o.I don't see this one happening as Eto'o would be a big loss for the club.Today though one paper has said he may be going to Manchester United.
Chelsea are making an attempt to sign defender Sergio Ramos for £50m.
Manchester United are also looking at getting Karim Benzema from Lyon.

I think the £50m is what Real are asking for, if they pay that is another story.
I think Grant will be getting a blank cheque to purchase players this summer so we may see some big signings from Chelsea.

Just seen that Eriksson is holding talks with Benfica.
This must be the most stupid release of a manager this year, he has taken city to one of the highest positions they have been in years and yet their owner wants to get rid of him.
This is what happens when you get a owner that doesnt fully understand the game.
killadoob
08-05-2008, 10:35 AM
yea i must agree last year they where fighting relegation
how can they fire him, he has nobody decent in the team and how they are so high is due to him and him alone
give him some money, let him buy big names players and work his magic
HAMMERS OFFER LJUNGBERG £3m TO LEAVE - REPORTS (http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_3536781,00.html)
Since last August's transfer, itself worth £3m, Ljungberg has contributed a measly three goals - although that is more than the player scored in his final seasons at Arsenal. Almost as incredible as the bottom line of the contract Ljungberg signed Upton Park last summer was its longevity. It's one thing to offer a footballer a £75,000-a week wage, it is quite another to provide a 30-year-old already in clear decline with a four-year contract.
Yet that is precisely what West Ham are reported to have done and, now realising the folly of that decision, they are ready to cut their exorbitant losses. According to The Times, the Hammers have offered Ljungberg £3m to leave - although even that hefty compensation package does not equate to a year's salary as per the contract Ljungberg signed nine months ago.
The newspaper also reports that the Hammers are preparing to make similar offers to Lucas Neill and Luís Boa Morte in a bid to reduce their wage bill.
There's no mention of whether anyone at the club will actually be held accountable for making these deals in the first place.

United after Benzima is an old story, but he will never leave Lyon for any club.
Chelsea will never get Ramos for even if they offered more than 50m.

There are some awesome youngsters coming out of Chelsea academy, Scott Sinclair, Michael Woods etc. They both have had a taste of 1st team football, and I expect Sinclair to train with the 1st team in the summer and feature a lot more next year. HLEB TO LEAVE ARSENAL (http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_3540917,00.html)
Alex Hleb's agent has finally gone public with his client's wish to leave Arsenal this summer.
The Belarusian, a close friend of the AC Milan-bound Mathieu Flamini, has repeatedly been linked with a move to Inter Milan amid claims that he has been offered a double-your-pay offer by the Italian club. Famously, after reports he had left Arsenal's hotel to meet with Inter representatives before their Champions League tie in Milan, his absence was explained as a search for an ice cream.
Now his agent, Nikolai Shpilevski, has admitted: "Alexander is preparing to make the most important moves of his life.
"He is leaving Arsenal even though they want to offer him a new long-term contract and better conditions. Only time will tell if leaving is the right decision, but there's no way back now. Everything will be cleared up in the next two weeks."
Hleb joined Arsenal from German club Stuttgart in the summer of 2005 and has so far made 89 league appearances, scoring seven goals.

A semi-final in the champs league isnt good enough, they demand trophies in La Liga.

09-05-2008, 10:44 AM
but look at the westham manager who is coming under fire for poor results
he has 9 first team players injured and has done well not to get into a relegation battle but the fans are blaming him for a poor season and not the fact that majority of their first team is injured
now barcelona are in a very similar situation but its just not as severe
SuPaStA
09-05-2008, 11:52 AM
Big difference between a team like West Ham (who if they get into the top half of the table that's an excellent result) and a team like Barca (who if they don't win champs league or at least the league its an extremely poor year)
With a history like barca's anything but the best is not good enough, the last straw was the 4-1 loss against real madrid, if you lived in the country you will know that the 4-1 loss is worse than losing the champs or league.
Fans haven't been happy with rijkaard since last season already so its no surprise that he is on his way out.
Remember also barca's fans hold a share in the club, so their say means a lot unlike other teams where fans opinion doesn't mean anything.Liverpool wanted to adopt this but unfortunately it fell through.

Not exactly. Under Spanish law Barca could not offer him a pro deal till he turned 18. That's how Arsenal were able to sign him so cheap and easily. That's the same way Arsenal sign most of their youngsters. They use the fact that in continental Europe it's illegal to offer a professional contract till the player turns 18 while it's it's legal in England.
SuPaStA
09-05-2008, 01:28 PM
From a interview with cesc:
“It was difficult,” he says, “but I knew I wanted to play first-team football and I thought I’d have the chance with Arsenal. I knew if I could get on the pitch I could show people what I could do."
Reason England has to get young players abroad is because you not allowed under British law to take a youth into your team who lives a certain distance from your stadium eg: Manchester United cant go to Liverpool and sign a youth from there.Hence you get players like wallcott/rooney who sign on at a later stage with bigger clubs, even though those bigger clubs were very aware of their talents before then.

Reason why FR is out is cos his tactics. He is mostly criticised for the formations he chooses to play, and his lack to adapt and change the formation when needed.
As SupaSta said, anything else besides winning the Spanish Cup, League and Champions League is NOT good enough. That is pure and simple, i watched loads of Henry's interviews where he keeps on saying that the most remarkable thing about Barca are the fans. You NEED to win, finishing second is NOT good enough. This is clear with them selling 10 first team players, for losing in the semis of the CL
No ,they only got 'noticed' at Arsenal. before Arsenal they were nobodies.

That is incorrect. Cesc got impatient, he also knew it would be extremely hard and long for him to challenge for 1st team place. With Xavi and Iniesta in the team, he simply wouldnt play. He walked into that Arsenal midfield, says alot about their midfield:rolleyes:

Drogba is looking at movingto to AC milan where he will be re-united with his old manager Jose.

One spanish paper is reporting that Ronaldo will be moving to Real Madrid.

I dont think they are allowed to give the players a proffesional contract until 18. the fact that Bojan is playing is because he is under a youth contract and they can use him for the first team, despite not having signed a pro contract. it does depend on patience - arsenal poach and groom (and all luck to them, they inject the football world with new blood)

Good to see another real footie supporter on the threads!
You half right there, in spain a minor can sign a pro contract but only for a maximum limit of 3 years, barca are looking at extending bojan's contract to 2013 now.
Regarding your question about rafa, i think the problem isnt the team but rafa himself.Way too much rotation in his team selection and too much focus on europe than the premier league.

I said pro deal. Bojan is on a youth deal till he turns 18.
Same thing in Italy with Ballotelli at Inter.
They can play them but they can't sign them to professional deals till they turn 18. Which means another club can come in and poach them and only pay compensation till they are on pro deals the club can't keep them since the other club doesn't have to approach the club first they can go to the player first.

I dont think so man, Barry is a great player and would sort out our troublesome left wing.
I admit the others arent top clas but bentley would be a good signing.Word is that babel will be given a chance upfront next season so our mid will be sollid.
Barry-Mascherano-Gerrard-Bentley
with babel and torres up front that would be pretty decent. We dont have much money this season, only 30 million aparantly but remember we signed Torres,Babel,Mascherano and Skrtel who all cost big money.
Wonder who united will be signing...
We need a quality winger more than anything else.
Barry to replace Alonso is okay. But if Alonso stays where is Barry going to play? LM or LB? I guess he would be solid enough for either of those positions but not quality.
Maxi is good and solid as a wide midfielder but again where's the true quality

Barry to replace Alonso is okay. But if Alonso stays where is Barry going to play? LM or LB? I guess he would be solid enough for either of those positions but not quality.
Maxi is good and solid as a wide midfielder but again where's the true quality
Bently is the same again.
Saviola(ROFL) and Degen . The less said the better
*sigh*
Those are some good points there, I don't think that Garry is exactly the kind of player that you are looking for right now.

We need one or two more real quality players to make that last step. Not a whole bunch of solid players.. Unfortunately Rafa has a thing for squad players. If he buys another bunch they'll be 'rotated' out the club in two years time for the next bunch for yet another assault for fourth spot

Barry is not going to replace Xabi, he will be playing at LW from what i've heard, and he plays at LW at Villa, well kind of with Young just ahead of him in that funny formation.
Doesnt look like Alonso will be leaving in the summer as rafa and xabi have denied the rumours.
I dont know how true the saviola rumour is but aparantly he will replace voronin,BUT it doubt its true. If we cant get Rafinha then i guess Degen is a good 2nd choice, theres not really alot of good available fullbacks out there.
Also i think Bentley will be an amazing signing, just look at his stats(Goals asists) for the last two seasons then you will see why i rate him.

Barry as LW would be a joke. Barry on one end and Kuyt on the other ROFL. Opposition fullbacks could park off in our half :D. Barry is not a winger by a million miles. Left midfield at best. A more talented version of Riise.
Rafa also said Kewel, Sissoko and Crouch weren't leaving by offering them contracts and now look. I don't believe a word he says about his own players the way he messes them around.
Saviola would be an improvement over Voronin. But then again so would Brain McBride , Mikel Forsell(SP) and a bunch of other forwards from relegated teams would be an improvement.
Now Rafinha would be a good purchase going by what a hear. But why the need for Degen if we've got Arbeloa?
Bentley would be a good squad player not a first team regular IMO.

So who do you suggest we get at left wing?personally il be happy with barry.Kuyt is a whole nother story...id prefer bentley as our RW.
Have you seen arbeloa play this season?hes just not good enough, just look at how chelsea scored against us at anfield.Hes a good squad player but i think even finnan would be better than arbeloa. From what iv heard Degen can play at LB aswell and with riise leaving that may be why.I think the deal for Degen is done,he will be a bosman free transfer.

Cech denies Chelsea exit rumours
Cech has been one of Chelsea's key players since joining in 2004
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has pledged his future to the club after his agent said an unnamed club was lining up a £32m bid for him.
"Contrary to numerous press stories over the last couple of days, I would like to make it very clear I have no plans to leave the club," Cech said.
"I am very happy at Chelsea. I still have two years left on my contract.
"I believe the club will sit down with my representatives at the right time to discuss an extension of my contract."
The 25-year-old Czech Republic international joined Chelsea from French side Rennes four years ago, and has been integral to their success in recent years.

You don't turn around and essentially say 'I'll see if I can be bothered to play for you lot next year' if you play for a team as successful as Man U (as much as it pains me to admit that)
Seems to me like he thinks he is bigger than the team and he obviously hasn't read the history books about how Fergie treats players who think that. What chance we see Ronaldo sporting a Nike impression on his forehead at some point next season? :D

i dont agree with you when you say CR thinks he is bigger than the club.
Many times he said, he is more worried about winning with the team rather than personal glory.
And he didnt say anything like 'I'll see if I can be bothered to play for you lot next year' , he said his dream is to play in Spain but he doesnt want to leave MU just yet, and he will see whats in store for him after the CL final.

CR was hopeless in his first season. Who is to say Nani will blow up like he did? Why is it cos CR did it, Nani can too?
Anderson hasnt scored a single goal this season. Defenders score more than him.
When i look at young players, changing the football world. I look at Messi, Ronaldo, Bojan, Cesc, Van Persie - these are but a few that are world super stars and are the same age and even younger than Nani.

Looks like Chelsea might be in pole position to snatch Ricardo Quaresma from Porto.Liverpool are also intrested in him as a replacement for Pennant Although heard that David Bentley could fill the right wing position.
Looks like AC Milan are in pole position for UEFA Cup football :)

ROFL!!!
and Chelsea will do just fine w/o Drogba, Anelka can rise to the challenge, and it looks like David Villa is joining, as well as Quaresma...
And then there is Scott Sinclair coming back, there is Kalou, maybe its time to change to a 4-4-2 and train during the summer to get that right.

I was surpised at his attitude in that interview and why he would want to take the step down to La Liga when he is already playing in the Prem. Like Real are going to have more success than United in the next few years....

Eto will be a good asset to any club. You right, he is a legend. He is a goal scoring machine.
Deco was told last week to start looking for another club. He has been having problems with the club for as long as i can remember.
They will never ever sell Messi. Is the new ''brand'' of the club. Like Ronaldinho has been for the past few years.

enry: Just Go, Eto'o
Thierry Henry would apparently rather see the back of Samuel Eto'o...
Thierry Henry has insisted that it's time for Barcelona teammate Samuel Eto'o to make a move, further to reports linking him with Milan and Tottenham.
“If I were Sam, I would go, but I don’t decide for him,” Henry told France-Football.
Regarding the club's fans turning on the striker, Henry added: “I never, never, never experienced such a moment. The atmosphere was very hard.”
As for himself, Henry feels that he's finished the season strongly. However, he admits that he should have taken a break after moving from Arsenal last summer.
“I was injured when I moved in and for six months I did not do anything,” the former Gunner admmitted.
“Rijkaard asked me if I wanted to be apart from the group and work for two months with a physical programme.
“I told him I wanted stay with the group, but it has been a massive mistake. When you play you cannot recover.
“I scored 18 goals in all competitions, without shooting free kicks or penalties. I made 10 assists and, despite the bad results, I finished with a good series: four goals in the last three games.”
Despite not hinting that he wants to leave the Camp Nou, the France international wants his future to be crystal clear before he continues, insisting: “If I am not part of the club’s plans, it is time to be told.”

Manchester United chief executive David Gill says there is no way Cristiano Ronaldo will be leaving the club.
Ronaldo signed a five-year deal in 2007, but has regularly been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
"He's got four more years with us, has been with us for five and we're sure he'll be with us for many years to come," he said.
"We're keeping him. We've no intention of letting him go and will make sure he's happy. He's going nowhere."
Referring to Ronaldo as "one of the best players in the world, if not the best," Gill said he could not see any reason why the player would want to leave, or the club would want to sell him.
"He's at a great club, winning trophies, and enjoys it immensely here, so why would he want to leave?," he said.
"We're not a club that sells its main assets, to service our debts we need to have a very successful team on the pitch and you don't achieve that by selling Cristiano Ronaldo."

Alves wants Barca switch
Published: Today
rigTeaserImage
DANIEL ALVES is set to snub a move to England by joining Barcelona.
The Sevilla full-back has been linked with Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham.
But the Brazil star, 25, has his heart set on a move to the Catalan giants and has issued a come-and-get-me plea to new Barca boss Pep Guardiola.
Alves said: "As I have said more than once it would be an honour and a pleasure to be able to play for Barca.
“I am just waiting for concrete news and hope that things can move as quickly as possible.
"The truth is that it is a bit more complicated than it seemed.
"It does not depend on me and when that happens things are more difficult.
"I think that I am ready to join a major club. I have been at Sevilla for five-and-a-half years and a lot of things have happened.
"I have matured a lot and I have been waiting for this moment for two years now."
Alves also revealed he is a huge fan of Guardiola and even watched the ex-Barca midfielder when he was growing up.
He added: "He is spectacular. I love football and I always watched Barca against Madrid when I was younger.
“In Brazil he was considered to be one of the best in his position.
"He was a great player and I have no doubt that he will be a great coach.”
Seville president Jose Maria del Nido rejected Chelsea’s £28m bid for Alves last summer and the player himself admits his high valuation may scare some clubs off.
He said: “It is difficult to put a price on my work.
"It is the president who must do that. Where I go is what I decide.
“I will say where I go. My future is down to me and nobody else, but the price is down to him.
"Last year he rejected an offer that was far too much. But I cannot do anything about that if someone wants to pay that."

On a night of European glory, Cristiano Ronaldo gave Reds fans even more reason to celebrate when he quashed rumours that he could join Real Madrid this summer by pledging his future to United.
When asked by a TV reporter whether he would be leaving the club with which he has already achieved so much in his short career, Ronaldo gave the emphatic reply all Reds fans wanted to hear.
“No, no, no. I’m going to stay,” he said.
It was a fitting end to an emotional night for the Portuguese winger who opened the scoring in the 26th minute, but then missed his spot-kick in the dramatic penalty shoot-out.
“When I missed the penalty, I thought we were going to lose,” he said.
“I played well in the game and I scored a goal, but I missed the penalty. I thought it was going to be the worst day of my life.
“But the lads did their jobs. They believed they were going to score, and they scored. Penalties is a lottery, you never know who is going to win, but I think we deserve to win because we played better in the game.
“It means everything to me because we won both trophies, the Champions League and the League, so I feel very happy. It is one of the most happy days of my life. I feel very, very proud.”

Schuster: Ronaldo Will End Up At Madrid
Real Madrid manager Bernd Schuster has stoked the fires of speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo by declaring today that the Manchester United star would one day end up at the Bernabéu...
Ronaldo stated less than 24 hours ago that he was "staying" with Manchester United, but nonetheless some have picked up on the choice of wording he used elsewhere to speculate that he ma still have his eye on a move.
Among these is Schuster, who is not known to be a man to mince his words.
"Sooner of later, Cristiano Ronaldo will wear white," he boomed to Noticias Cuatro.
What's more, he defended his side's recent attempts to coax the Portuguese ace via the media to the Spanish capital.
"If there is any possibility of our recruiting him then Real Madrid have to try," he reasoned.
Despite the winger's "non-transferable" status at Old Trafford, he remains Los Merengues' main target for the summer transfer window.

Reds Up Barry Bid
Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Aston Villa skipper Gareth Barry, raising their bid to ₤12 million…
Villa boss Martin O’Neill immediately rejected the Reds’ initial ₤10 million offer for Barry, and is desperate to hold onto the England midfielder.
But according to The Sun, the Merseyside giants are prepared to fork out at least ₤12 million to capture their main transfer target.
O’Neill and Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez have been at loggerheads in press recently regarding the latter’s decidedly open approach for the 27-year-old.
O’Neill claims the former Valencia boss has been excessively aggressive in his pursuit of Barry, while Benitez feels the former Celtic manager should resign himself to the fact the player may have to leave Villa Park to achieve his European ambitions.
Villa have offered Barry wages of ₤70,000-per-week — a ₤30,000 raise — to stay, but the lure of Champions League football and the possibility of linking up with close friend Steven Gerrard could prove too difficult to refuse.

The 31-year-old defensive midfielder or centre-half has agreed to join the Yellow Submarine on a two-year contract.
Edmilson has steadily fallen down the pecking order at the Camp Nou following his arrival from French side Lyon in 2004.
The 40-times capped international was part of Brazil's 2002 World Cup winning squad but missed out on the 2006 tournament due to a serious knee injury.
"Brazilian central midfielder Edmilson has pledged his future for the next two seasons with Villarreal," read a brief club statement.

Barcelona Confirm Ten-Man Shortlist - Sport

*
The sports daily claims that of the ten targets, three are already all but assured.
These are Gerard Piqué, Daniel Alves and Seydou Keita. The former, a Manchester United stopper, will return home to Catalunya for around €5m on a four-year deal.
Alves and Keita, both of Sevilla, may be somewhat harder to land, but the blaugrana are apaprently confident that they can force the Andalucían club's hand with a combined bid of €40m.
The remaining seven names each offer complications. One, Fabricio Coloccini of Deportivo, could potentially be the easiest, given that the cash-strapped Galician side may be willing to sell one of their top players, who has publicly said that he'd relish the challenge of Camp Nou.
Another, Alexander Hleb of Arsenal, is also said to be eager to leave his current club in favour of pastures new. Whether or not the Gunners are willing to part with him, though - or at least for what Barça are offering - is another matter entirely.
The Maybe Pile
Should these five signings go ahead, they would comprise two centre-backs, a right-back, a central midfielder and a winger. That would, according to Sport, leave room for a new left winger (to replace Ronaldinho) and a striker (perhaps to fill the gap that may be left by Samuel Eto'o.)
The left wing is a battle between David Silva of Valencia and Chelsea's Florent Malouda. Malouda is apparently the first choice, but much depends on whether or not the Blues sign a left-handed option themselves - Robinho perhaps - and accept a bid of €20m. Silva could cost a similar amount, but may be easier to land due to Los Che's financial situation.
Up front, Karim Benzema leads the list, but he is apparently content to remain at Lyon for another season, and would in any case be extremely expensive, given that Gones president Jean-Michel Aulas is notoriously tough to deal with when it comes to his prized assets.
Emmanuel Adebayor of Arsenal and Dimitar Berbatov of Tottenham Hotspur are two options from the Premier League. Poacher Adebayor is apparently open to the idea of leaving the Emirates, with €25m apparently a suitable amount for his services. Berbatov, meanwhile, would presumably jump at the chance to play in the Champions League, but an all-out bidding war could break out given the interest of other top European clubs.
For now, though, all is quiet at Camp Nou...

The next team to get him will be lucky, stupid decision as his done a lot in his first season in charge.Looks like Rijkaard will be the next coach.
Chelsea have sacked manager Avram Grant after just eight months in charge.
The decision followed two days of talks between Grant, 53, and the club's chief executive Peter Kenyon.
The Israeli coach's position had been subject to intense speculation after Chelsea finished runners-up in the Premier League and Champions League.
Russia coach Guss Hiddink, fellow Dutchman Frank Rijkaard and Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson are among the early favourites to replace Grant.
Chelsea said in a statement on their website that the search for a new coach would now begin and that the club will make no further comment.
The statement said: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Avram Grant has had his contract as manager terminated today. This follows meetings over the last two days.
"Everybody at Chelsea FC would like to thank Avram for his contribution since taking over as manager last September.
"We will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager for Chelsea and there will be no further comment until that appointment is made."
The futures of Chelsea assistants Steve Clarke and Henk Ten Cate are unclear and no official word has yet been given on their positions.
Grant, a close friend of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, took over on 20 September 2007 after Jose Mourinho was sacked.
Frank Rijkaard, Sven-Goran Eriksson and, most recently, Brian Laudrup and Roberto Mancini have all been linked with a possible move to Chelsea.
Despite losing just two Premier League games while in charge, Grant attracted criticism from fans who claimed his team lacked style.
He was also criticised for losing February's League Cup final against Tottenham.
Grant joined Chelsea last summer from Portsmouth as director of football, a decision which apparently did not please Mourinho.
Mourinho was later dismissed after their 1-1 draw with Rosenborg at Stamford Bridge in their opening Champions League game.
Grant, who had never managed a club in England, was asked to take over and later given a four-year contract.
Both Kenyon and chairman Bruce Buck paved the way for change by insisting that Chelsea's performance this season was simply "not good enough".
Buck said: "We have very high expectations at Chelsea and a couple of second place finishes is just not good enough for us.
"So although we never would have thought in September when Jose Mourinho left that we would be able to make it into a Champions League final as we did - and that is fantastic - Chelsea are here to win trophies.
"So although it was an excellent season, we are still disappointed."
A series of discussions finally resolved Grant's future and it is understood the Israeli said his farewells to the players on Friday - telling them it had been a 'privilege' to manage the team.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he will quit Manchester United in the next three years.
The Old Trafford boss has been loath to set a date for his Old Trafford departure after reneging on his original plan to retire six years ago.
But in the wake of United's Champions League final victory, the 66-year-old said: 'I won't be managing here any more than three years at the very, very most. Without question. I can assure you of that.'
Ferguson is already the most successful manager in the history of the English game, having won 20 major trophies in his time at Old Trafford.
But he is already beginning to ponder life after football, saying: 'You have to think about time for yourself.
'I think my wife deserves a bit of my time, too.
'The older you get, the more you feel guilty about it.
'My wife, Cathy, was the one who talked me out of retiring last time but she wouldn't do that now.'
But Ferguson, who has been United manager for more than 21 years, insists he has no immediate plans to step down.
'I know I would find it hard to give up managing United,' he said.
'I can't do it, not at the moment anyway.'
Meanwhile, Manchester United chief executive David Gill believes Carlos Queiroz is 'very much in the frame' to succeed Ferguson at Old Trafford.
Ferguson revealed he will finally quit as United boss within the next three years. And although Gill insists he has not been told that by Ferguson himself, he conceded United could follow in Liverpool's example with an internal appointment when the Scot does step down.
'We haven't discussed that,' Gill told the BBC.
'I think his guiding principle over whether he stays is whether he is healthy and still has the desire, which I'm sure he will have.
'It's still three and a half years away, we will look at it at that time.'
Asked about planning for Ferguson's successor, Gill added: 'We are making sure our squad is continually reviewed and improved as necessary and the age of the squad is right so that, when Alex does decide to retire, anyone taking over has a fantastic squad with the right age profile.
'We also have an assistant manager who will be very much in the frame in Carlos Queiroz.
'He's clearly a key part of our success. If you look at what Liverpool achieved in their very successful years during the `70s and `80s (that) was through internal appointments.
'Carlos is a key factor in all the success we've achieved over the last couple of seasons.'
Ferguson has already gone back on one promise to retire but insisted he will not be managing at Old Trafford by the time he reaches 70 in December 2011.
'I won't be managing here any more than three years at the very, very most. Without question. I can assure you of that,' the 66-year-old said.
'You have to think about time for yourself. I think my wife deserves a bit of my time, too.
'The older you get, the more you feel guilty about it.
'My wife, Cathy, was the one who talked me out of retiring last time but she wouldn't do that now.'

Chopper backs Hiddink for Chelsea role
Chelsea legend Ron 'Chopper' Harris believes Avram Grant's departure from Stamford Bridge was inevitable and has tipped Guus Hiddink to be the favourite to take over.
Grant's four-year contract was terminated after just eight months on Saturday following the club's first trophyless season since 2004.
The 52-year-old Israeli, who replaced Jose Mourinho last September, guided Chelsea to their first Champions League final, the League Cup final and to second place in the Premier League.
But the penalty shoot-out defeat in Moscow paved the way for his departure although Harris admitted he may have lost his job irrpective of the result at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
'Even if he had won the Champions League I am not convinced if he would have remained in charge but after they lost I think there was only ever going to be one outcome,' Harris said.
'Perhaps there was an inevitability about his departure from the club but it is interesting that there is now a lot of sympathy for him.
'I think his achievements should be put into context - he took Chelsea to two finals, finished second in the Premier League.
'They were only one penalty kick away from winning the Champions League and at most other clubs - the European Cup final in particular - would have been considered a success.
'But I guess the stakes are so high at Chelsea right now so there is a pressure to deliver trophies and unfortunately for Avram he has been unable to do that.'
Former captain Harris, who made 795 competitive appearances for the west London club from 1961 to 1980, expects current Russia boss Hiddink to be at the top of the shortlist to replace Grant.
The Dutchman is a close friend of billionaire owner Roman Abramovich - who is paying his salary to manage Russia - and among the best tacticians in world football.
Although Hiddink has previously dismissed speculation linking him to the Chelsea job but he has not signed a new deal with the Russian federation.
Harris, 63, said: 'Guus Hiddink is certainly one manager I think would definitely be in the frame for the job.
'He has proven his ability at the top level all round the world at club and international level and would be a name to satisfy the fans.
'It wouldn't surprise me if Sven-Goran Eriksson was also in the running. He obviously was close to becoming manager before.
'Whoever it is will be backed with plenty of money and I expect Chelsea to spend big again this summer as they attempt to catch Manchester United.'
Also believed to be in the frame are former Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard and Inter Milan's Roberto Mancini but former Blues boss Mourinho remains unlikely to return.

There's only way to begin the latest round-up of the gossip...
The Daily Mail claims that 'Chelsea will offer up to £50million in an audacious bid to sign Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.'
Aye, it made us jump as well.
To quote the newspaper: 'Stamford Bridge owner Roman Abramovich is ready to smash the world transfer record to land the 24-year-old Spaniard. Abramovich was prepared to pay that much for Thierry Henry when he first took over at Chelsea and he has given chief executive Peter Kenyon permission to offer the same amount for a brilliant marksman who scored 33 goals in his debut season at Anfield.'
At this point you are bound to be wondering how Chelsea could be pursuing players even though they have just sacked their manager. Well, according to the Mail, 'it is understood the club will continue to pursue those players Grant identified prior to his dismissal - and Torres was top of his wish list, with the Barclays Premier League and Champions League runners-up happy to take advantage of the chaos at Liverpool.'
And, apparently, an inclination to sell. An insider is quoted as revealing: "There is a desire among certain people at Liverpool to sell at the right price. It's just a case of whether they have the nerve to incur the wrath of the Liverpool fans."
CHELSEA TO MAKE TORRES THE MOST EXPENSIVE PLAYER IN HISTORY (http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8671_3611986,00.html)
Hmm if this is true it's worth considering. You can do a lot with 50 mill. Remember Juventus sold Zidane for around 46ill and used to money to bring in the likes of Buffon, Nedved and Thuram.
Then again you're giving a Prem rival a great player which lessens the advantage.

I have to agree. Certain players should not be sold no matter what the price is. For Liverpool that is Gerrard and Torres.
