Has anyone actually seen these towers?
We have all seen fiber go into the ground all over the place, but I still have to see the towers. Are they similar to cell towers? Do they piggyback on cell towers?

Good question. Perhaps there are only 1 or 2?

I would guess they are larger or similar to the original gsm 900 towers. They are using 800Mhz and they have more range - so less towers, but possibly more visible.
Know somebody, will try and get info:cool:

I find it quite strange that nobody from Neotel posts/reads this forum. One would expect their techies to lurk around here...

They do read the forum. A call centre agent confirmed this to me a few weeks ago. I think they are not allowed to post.

Maybe they just put their transmiter on existing Vodacom/MTN towers?

Then prices would be triple as the cartel/mafia will charge them more than they charge us:mad:

Ok @rph72 - got the info.
Get your box of tissues so long.
The CDMA towers are expected to be similar in size (or even more visible/larger) than the original gsm900 towers. Those pretend palm tree beasts.
Note the use of "are expected" - as not one of the real deal seems standing yet. May be out on tender - and the normal hassle to get sites of course.:o
They have test sites and/or possibly borrowing some Telscum infrastructure.
Having better range than gsm, there would be less towers though.
Here's a pick of one in sri lanka, I think.

A manager at one of my customers has a friend at neotel, and was just told not to expect Neotel signals around the far east rand within the next 2 years:mad:

*knows Neotel applied to have some antenaes installed on the Vodacom Tower at our premises*
That thing that goes around "Enviromental Impact Study" i think they call it.

Yep, think that is their hurdle for now.
It would be first prize if they had their own towers though, but they may be forced share - else they will never really get off the ground.

If you don't like the towers' look, you can always choose Ivy - your choice:D

The tower are cloaked with a stealth field....oh no wait thats tiberium wars.
Weird thing about the palm tree towers is that the Europeans don't know about them. We had a girl from Germany here some time back and she wanted to know what kind of tree is so farking weird. Took a bit of explaining. lol
Do I understand this correctly?
Noetel wants to launch in May 2008 but no Towers has gone up as yet?

Nope, they have Launched already but have almost no towers yet. :)

http://www.indi.ca/photos/show/recent/page/82/photo/suntel-towerSorry to burst your bubble but the stuff you see on that tower is microwave backhaul equipment. The CDMA kit that you'll see on the towers looks pretty much the same as any of the GSM and 3G equipment. You probably not going to be able to tell the difference unless you see little men in orange suits installing it :p

Those look like directional microwave antennaes that Telkom use to use, before they pulled them down, the old analogue SEL and STC kit before the advent of the digital age. If you look at Vodacom 900Mhz antennaes, they use sector antennaes or some of them are omni-directional type antennaes. Sorry see my comments confirmed, did not read page 2
