For speedtest update please go to post 15#

So the first one told me I have excellent coverage, will do credit check now and never called me back, Call the toll free number the next day, another consultant gaved me conflicting story, good coverage at my neighbour's premesis, but no coverage at my place, say will follow up with technical and call me back, now a week had past and no phone calls from any of them.

Called today, explained the story and the consultant confirm the conflicting story, I am on the edge of coverage, so WTF is the problem here, it's either excellent coverage or no coverage??!! He putted me on hold for a while and told me technicals said there's coverage at my place. Proceed with finalization of order by doing another credit check. Told me if the credit check does not approve, will need me to use credit card to make a deposit upfront, so aren't they supposed to check if you got a credit card too when they pull up your bank account for credit check? I just started working beginning of this year and do have a credit card yet, told him that and he said will still do credit check.

I am waiting for the call for more than an hour, maybe they just don't have the decency to call me to say sorry credit check not working out and you dont have a credit card, sorry no business.

That's really bad customer support IMHO. 3 calls and 3 different consultants all promised to call back customers, which never did.

Will update if I do get a call, but I have no faith from previous experience (Maybe they are not cornerstone graduates:sick:)

PS update 1: Rajee (don't know if this is the correct spelling, 3rd consultant I spoke to) just called me after I posted this, he will send a technician to do signal strength test around the area and maybe outside my house to see if there's good reception. I hope the outcome will be good and at least there is someone in Neotel that will care to call back when they promised.

Ok, someone from Neotel just called me about coverage, greate news, I am covered!!! Covered my @SS. I told her about the 3 different stories told by 3 different consultant to me before, so now I ask her to send my details to a Neotel Technician so I can setup a date for testing at my house (second try on making such arrangement).

I've also been waiting for a call back from NeoTel's "third consultant". So far, I've been waiting a month.

5 minutes after the call from 4th Consultant, the 5th one called and offered me service as I have got coverage, again. Probably they did not update the system in time.

Hey Cyber,

I am so sorry for your problems with NeoTel, do you not have a mate that has NeoTel Equipment, If so why not try his equipment to see if the CMA works in your area, really it's sometimes pathetic that such a Multi-Billion company would not have a Coverage Area on there website, I am sure the 0800 number is costing them a fortune to have :) :))))))) Come on please NeoTel, have a Rollout section, what area will be covered, I've many people wanting to change to a new Communication companies.

Something I need to mention is that both calls to my landline this afternoon had very bad quality lines, lots of backgroud noise. What needs to be mentioned is that my company is using Neotel connection (for internet, don't know if VOIP is also route through the same connection) and we are all using Cisco IP phones (not iphone, I WISH!).

Ha, thanks. The problem is family planning to move to another house nearby sometime in the future, a block or two away from where I stay and I know I am moving away to the direction where the signal is from......Need to confirm the new place's reception too or when they going to cover. I hate moving houses.

Ok everyone, the Neotel representative pitched around 12:35 and we quickly setup the device and did a few tests on speedtest.net

Installation of the device is painless, connect->put in CD, click click and done.

Sorry but I didn't save the speedtest results, but I can remember the results more or less:
JHB: ping 300ms+, 400kbps down,
CTN: ping 700ms+, 700kbps down,
London: ping 999ms+, 500kbps down,
New York: ping can't remember, speed can't remember,
Hongkong: ping bad, speed 212kbps down,

You want to know why I didn't mentioned the upload speed? It's horrible, upload 8 kbps for JHB and CTN servers, 25 kbps for overseas servers.

Signal strength not that good at my place, most of the time no bar or max one bar of signal, Running on EVDO and one call to vodacom cellphone, quality ok but sound a little airy according to my friend.

I am still considering if I should get it or not, although it's during mid-day and we can say it's slow and congested as the reason for high ping, but the upload speed? Signal strength related??

And good news for people who want a router based device, they are pilot testing it now, 4 ports + (Wifi?), and you can plug a phone into the router. That's all that guy knows........
