Topic title says it all. Was wondering how long I need to spend in the sun for a nice tan. (for those that have a real tan other than the CRT monitor tan ;) )

The last 2 times I've been out in the sun for 5-6+ hours my neck arms have had a nice tan but don't last as I don't spend all my time in the sun (obviously)

So I was wondering, SPF40 + tanning/bronze oil and about 4-5 hours in the sun for 2 days straight?

And to maintain do the same thing the next week

Don't spend 4 hours in the sun, rather take it down to about 40 minutes in the morning and 40 minutes after 15:00.

You can then do this for the whole week, each day and I'm pretty sure you'll get an even tan, rather than a "forced" tan. This should last longer too.

No idea, i just saw a bunch or bronzers in the shops the other day and all of them said that it doesn't contain sunblock etc but helps tanning in a natural way?

Problem is I can't get out in the sun for 40-80min a day. I work from 9am to 6pm and by 6pm the sun starts setting, so I was thinking over weekends... Found an answer on Yahoo that said 10am to 12:00 reapplying after 20min (sunblock) and then after an hour and apply after sun after a cold shower the night. And then from 2:45pm to 4:00pm. And her mom is apparently a nurse/beauty therapist

Till you turn a nice bright red :D

Thats actually weird you mention it. Before (in the last 16 years or so) I'd turn bright red and it hurts like hell but no tan. But now (the past 3 times I've spent 6-8 hours in the sun) no red, but a little brown (even though it stings a bit but yea only a bit)

I remember of having a nice tan when I was younger (like 5-11) so figured I'd try it again.

Flying back to SA in June so wouldn't mind a nice tan to show off to all the winter people losing theirs ;)

4 hours in direct sun = crispy in my experience.

I think past mistakes I made is not having a good enough SPF. Think SPF40 (which is used for babies) is enough/right balance. Will get bored on the beach doing nothing but tanning, saw some people parasailing so might try that if its not expensive :)

IMO people without tans look better than people with tans.

www.5fmdating.co.za - maybe that will help you.

There must be some social type groups where you live. Like Toastmasters, Round Table etc. Great ways to meet new people as opposed to bars etc.

the problem with quick weekend tans are just that, they are quick. and they vanish just as quickly.
the best thing to do would be to go tan twice a day over the weekend, max 30mins a side with a spf 20-30 and a bronzer. and drink a LOT of water. so, 9am for an hour and again at 3pm for an hour. after that, relax in a warmish bath with a cup of vinegar mixed in the water for about 20 mins - helps keep you from going red and losing your tan.
halfway during the week, say wednesday, go for a quick sunbed session and then do the same the next weekend. obviously, if you go for 2 or 3 sunbed sessions you'll have more of a tan come next weekend.
i used to be super pasty and this got me nice and tanned in 3 weeks - and i got the advice from a beautician as well.
