View Full Version : The Bafana Bafana thread
So since we have alot of Bafana Bafana supporters on the forum, thought we could discuss their antics in this thread.
They will be playing alot of footie in the nxt couple of months. Hope we can see some improvement in the nxt few games. If that win over Guinea actually meant something, i think we will see it in the nxt game :D

If Guinea beat them 2 - 0!
What are the fan boys going to say when we trump them? That was a good performance or are we going to be realitic this time? Who knows Bafana might even lose.
Go Bafana Go :D

Beating a team that is ranked only a few places below you is a good performance.
I think we can win the next match aswell.Would be good to get some consistency going.
We believe that Bafana Bafana should not be ranked so low. ;)
The teams ranked around Bafana cant put two passes together.

I believe the FIFA rankings are based on recent performances. So it doesnt matter that we won the CUP of Nations in 1996,based on recent performances we are ranked just above Eq.Guinea.
Unless you question the validity of the FIFA rankings.

Not questioning Fifa rankings. Bafana Bafana come from a soccer mad nation. We have invested MILLIONS in a world cup winning coach, we have better faciltiies than most african nations. We train harder than them, we play better countries than them due to us being the host of the WC.
So if we beat a country who are a few places lower than us in the rankings, i dont think it is anything major. We not suppose to be so low in the rankings.
Reminds me of when the Boks were ranked 4 or 5th in the world. When we beat Italy or Argentina, people never made a big thing about it. They were more frustrated that we couldnt beat them with a bigger margin.
Same applies to the Bafana team, its pure frustration that they cannot produce.
So Bafana lost to Sierra Leon. Arent they ranked lower than Guinea?

So you can only win at home in africa?
How can Africa be different from the rest of the world, the fact they lost against a very poor team makes no different if it was away or home.

supa i play the soccer 6 every week man
trust me i know what im talking about
go look at the reverse fixtures of those games, none of those teams who beat those massive fav teams will win away from home this weekend
africa is very different than the rest of world
look at those results and then tell me africa is not different
im not saying teams cannot win away in africa, im saying that 80% of the time african teams will win or draw at home
Its got nothing to do with away from home. We suck! Watching that game i rather laughed to myself cos what Bafana Bafana are doing isnt called football.
Sierra Leon are PATHETIC as well. Both teams passed the ball to their opponents when they werent even under pressure :D WTF???
Even when they took a throw in, they just threw the ball in the hopes that their player will get it.
ABSOLUTELY NO STRUCTURE!!!! I dont know how we can support a team like this.
With that said, i will continue to have hope that Bafana will one day produce and play the football that is expected of them.

What you saying makes no sense, you making excuses for them losing against a crap team.
Africa is the same as the rest of the world, you play away or home against a crap team you suppose to win.
World cup/african nations cup/euro these tournaments are all being played away for all the teams other than the host nation, so when a team loses in the tournament, you think they going to say :"Its because we were playing away from home"
All away fixtures for the winning team:
Sierra Leone 0 - 1 Nigeria
Equatorial Guinea 0 - 1 Nigeria
Nigeria 2 - 0 Sudan
Mauritius 0 - 3 Cameroon

explain to me then how ghana ivory coast and and egypt all lost away from home to very poor opposition?
senegal draw away from home
im not saying south africa dont suck, they do
im just saying playing away from in africa is not easy
nigeria is one team in africa who do well away from home
its pretty simple to be honest, watch south africa play this weekend, i can assure you they wont lose to sierra leone
watch gabone lose badly to ghana and watch egypt and ivory coast murder those teams, yet they could not do it away from home
Ya that right.
If you play a weaker team, it doesnt matter where the macth is played. A win should be almost guarenteed. Only reason or excuse that the match was drawn or lost would be if you fielded a second string team or even a junior team. Then maybe its acceptable.

Do you think if any european team must play against the majority African teams do you think on average they will lose?
killadoob
17-06-2008, 01:02 PM
not in Africa kule, maybe europe
playing siera leone in their country is not easy
playing gabone in their country is not easy as ghana found out
dont ask me why african teams struggle away to really poor teams but they do
kule can you see the betting on the those teams that lost? do you think bookies will mark egypt up at 1/3 with 4/1 draw and 14/1 win if they knew they would field a second string team and are away from home? imagine the amount of cash they would lose
bookies would be out of business in a matter of days
bookies betting often indicates alot
im not sure why the bookies dont know that africa is not fun to play away from home
The reason why the big african teams suffer is cos they are not fielding the same team they would in the AFCON. They are fielding a makeshift second string team.
killadoob
17-06-2008, 01:07 PM
ok kule im not going to argue with you
im going to say bookies are not stupid and would not mark ghana and egypt up at 1/3 if they where fielding a second string team
ok kule im not going to argue with you

If Brazil were to play their tenth team against SA. What u think the bookies will say?
killadoob
17-06-2008, 01:24 PM
not sure brazil dont have a 10th team :)
what i do know is bookies wont mark a second string ghana team or egypt team up at 1/3 if they not full strength teams
Point is, that neither Gahana nor Nigeria are even close to European consistancy standards as well. So to measure the away games, cos they lost would be stupid.
Anyway, back to the topic:
Bafana lost to a crappy team, cos they cant play football ''yet''.

I think I have a solution for Bafana Bafana.
I'm sure there are lots of people of Dutch descent here in the country.
Since the Dutch are blikseming everyone on Euro 2008, I think it's time we went to Free State, Northwest, and other provinces to get good quality players :D

No if we did that and they all of a sudden started winning games and actually being a world cup contender.
Im sure the government would then say there needs to be a quota system...

They believe they can beat these countries. Thats why they can rest players. Maybe someone should tell them, that african countries suffer away from home.

Heres my take on the match..
Bafana Bafana were held to a goal less draw against Sierra Leone and this could have disastrous to the country's hope of qualifying for the African Cup of Nations.
Yet again Bafana were disappointing in front of goal with Terror Fanteni being largely ineffectual in front of goal which lead to Santana substituting the Macabi Haifa striker on the 60th minute for Katlego Mashego.
Bafana started the match well but were struggling against the physical presence of the Sierra Leone players. Most of the opening attack play were down the flanks withe Bryce Moon and Tshepo Masilele getting into good positions and putting in some decent crosses.
In the 15th minute Masilele found space down the left and had the chance to lay the ball on a plate for Fanteni but the defender failed to pick out Fanteni. Moments later the ball fell to Kagiso Dikgacoi after the Sierra Leone keeper failed to gather a throw in but the Golden arrows midfielder blazed his shot high and wide. Bafana were now dominating possession but just could not find a way through Sierra Leone's defense. Fanteni did not have a good game and went on to miss two more chances before the first half ended.
The team started the second half with more intent and soon after the re start Teko Modise had his superb shot saved by goalkeeper Christian Caulker. Katlego Mashego tested Caulker again with a shot from just inside the box which the Leone keeper saved again.
Santana brought on Lerato Chabangu for defensive midfielder McBeth Sibaya as Bafana went looking for that elusive goal. The Sierra Leone defense managed to repel attack after attack from Bafana and went on to record a memorable result against the much fancied South African Team.
Santana was disappointed but remained optimistic saying: “They didn’t want to play and they fell all the time, and in soccer not always the best can win. Now we need to get six points, we need to win the last games. It’s not over … but sadly soccer’s like that. You have to understand that we are still preparing for 2010.”
Will South Africa qualify for the African Cup of Nations?...It's looking increasingly unlikely to me.

they did have some decent players and they defended well, they also have that striker who plays for bolton and he had a great tournament, i would not say the greek's had no talent in 2004
we have very little talent, our league is very poor which is making our national squad poor
if you see in our league alot of the good players are not actually South african
i watched the match today and wow it was not pretty
i also watched them when they lost, they are not moving forward thats for sure
