[:(!]

Telkom is lying about the 2-6% annual increases.

Have a look at the facts: http://www.internet.org.za/costs.html

The 2004 price rise announced by Telkom was 2.5%. However, they have reduced the seconds available for the initial connection fee of 55c. I think the true price increase was more like 8%.

There was an article in a paper a few weeks back. A Canadian professor basically said Telkom are stifling economic growth in SA due to their high communications tariffs. The Telkom CEO denied this with the usual rhetoric. Even if the SNO appears, I cannot see anything changing for a long long time. The only intervention can come from government – very unlikely considering their fair share of Telkom. I also think an American firm own a significant portion, so they’re more than happy with their cash cow in a regulated market.

Very interesting stats. Nice to see this laid out in black and white.

I'm completely blown away by the increase in telephone costs over the past 10 years. Shocked, but not surprised - afterall, it is Telkom we're talking about.

The important thing to note is that ISP costs did not increase nearly as fast as the Telkom call cost.

This is in spite of the ISP's having to purchase almost all, if not all, bandwidth from Telkom.

Shows what competition does in the market!

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

ah, that's no good guys! WTF can we do??? Nothing hacks me off more than thinking about Telkom and i'm bloody well prepared to do what it takes to get these bastards to come right.

Their entire network has been paid for over and over again - BY US! They keep devouring everyone's money like it's their right, and it's not! If it weren't for users there would be no network, no infrastructure, nothing. There would be no demand for it. Now that the internet is burgeoning we are stuck with rubbish marketing and a scrooge of a telecoms company. Now there is a massive demand for connectivity - the infrastructure is there and paid for, long time ago already - and we're STILL getting screwed! How the hell does that work?

If those SOB's in HO slash their prices in half they will more than double their customers - think of all the small businesses that just can't afford R1,000 a month for connectivity and all the people who work from home!? Even all our schools and universities that are being ripped off at an astronomical scale.

We must put our heads together and come up with an idea, whether extreme or not, but something has to be done or we will keep falling behind the rest of the world, we're so far behind in terms of connectivity it's staggering. All because of PRICING.

Telkom was the biggest mistake ever made. SA needs to be rid of them. And Mister White with his lame excuses. He should change it to Mr Yellow because he's too chickien to admit what Telkom is doing to our country. Please pass me your e-mail address Mr Yellow, and also Mr Nxasaxana or however you spell it and i will be glad to share a few thought with you.

And to think i woke up on the good side of the bed today...
