View Full Version : Step by Step guide to installing Garmin Mobile XT on the 6110
Having searched numerous sites, I was unable to find suitable instructions on how to install the Garmin Mobile XT as well as the South African maps onto a Nokia 6110 Navigator or similar phone.
Seeing that I managed to install them easily on my 6110, I decided to draw up up (hopefully) easy to follow instructions, with all the required files.
Don't get scared off by the many steps, it is really simple and would take around 20 minutes.
Also, these instructions can be used for installing the application onto other fones like the N95, with the only difference being that the application would, by default - be installed to the Applications folder directly, not into the "My Own" folder in it, as is the case with the 6110.
Guide One- Installing Garmin Mobile XT
Step One – Downloading required files
Download the following files:
1.1 Garmin Mobile XT for SymbianS60 version 5.00.50 : from here (http://www8.garmin.com/software/GarminMobileXTforSymbianS603rdEdition_50050.exe)
1.2 Garmin support files : from here (http://www8.garmin.com/software/GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe)
1.3 South African Street Maps – March 2008 :
Split into 2 parts. Download from Mediafire (here (http://www.mediafire.com/?hxjvjhmv2bx) and here (http://www.mediafire.com/?lqsjwjrfh5e)) or Rapidshare (here (http://rapidshare.com/files/122115907/safr08strmps.part1.rar) and here (http://rapidshare.com/files/122119540/safr08strmps.part2.rar))
1.4 Garmin Keygen : from here (http://www.mediafire.com/?ixnjz0vxzyo)
Step Two – Installing Garmin XT
2.1 Plug 6110 into Usb port
2.2 Select Data Transfer mode
2.3. Install Garmin Mobile XT for SymbianS60 version 50050 by running “GarminMobileXTforSymbianS60_50050.exe” on your PC.
2.4 Allow it to discover Removable Drive “H” then copy the software to it.
2.5 Then move into Pc Suite mode (phone setting->connection->usb->Pc Suite)
2.6 Program will now complete installation and will be present in “Applications -> My Own-> GMobileXT”
Step Three – Unlocking the Device
3.1 Run “GmobileXt” on the phone, go to settings->about, then find the Card Id titled "Unlock ESN"
3.2 Record this ID, then exit GMobileXT, however keep the phone connected to the PC (preferably, not necessarily)
3.3 Extract the Keygen (garmin_kgen.exe) and run it on your PC.Put in the Card Id and press generate to generate the device unlock code for your card. (Leave the keygen open)
3.4 Copy the unlock code to notepad and save as sw.unl
3.5. You will see your file named sw.unl.txt ,rename it to sw.unl
3.6 Keep this file (sw.unl) for copying to the fone later
Step Four- Generate Map unlock code
4.1 Go back to the Keygen that you had left open, and ensure that your Card ID is still there in the field right on top.
4.2 Go to the drop down menu titled : “Select Map Product” and choose “<custom mapset>”
4.3 When asked for the MapID code , enter 1214
4.4 Press generate to get your Map unlock code
4.5 Copy the unlock code to notepad and save as gmapsupp.unl
4.6. You will see your file named gmapsupp.unl.txt ,rename it gmapsupp.unl
4.7 Keep this file (gmapsupp.unl) for copying to the fone very soon
Step Five – Installing the Maps
5.1 Unzip the two files containing the maps. Do this by copying both to the same folder, then extracting any one of them. This will automatically extract the other as well. If the file extracted is named “gmapsupp.img”, then no need to rename it, otherwise rename it to gmapsupp.img
5.2 Keep this file ready for copying to the phone now
Step Six – Copying the files to the Phone
6.1 Open PC Suite and run “File Manager”
6.2 Navigate to the memory card, then to the Garmin folder in the root directory of the memory card
6.3 Copy the following files from your PC to this folder:
sw.unl
gmapsupp.unl
gmapsupp.img
Step Seven – Installing the Support files
7.1 Go back to data transfer mode (phone setting->connection->usb->data transfer mode)
7.2. Install Garmin support files by running “GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe” on your PC.
7.3 Allow it to discover Removable Drive “H” then copy the software to it.
Step Eight- Concluding
8.1 Leave Data Transfer mode, disconnect the USB cable and Run “GmobileXt” on the phone
8.2 Go to settings-> System->Remote GPS and enable the internal gps. (instead of the bluetooth one)

You are now done
Guide Three- Installing Speed Camera and Mobile Hazard Poi's to Route 66
Files needed:
1. camera_hazards.lmx
2. mobile_hazards.lmx
3. A sound file (.mp3) for each. (Optional)
Download all in one file, from here (http://www.mediafire.com/?i33dznjqnec).
Extract to a new folder.
You will find the two .lmx files in addition to a folder named "Sounds" browse through the mp3 files in the folder, and select a file to play as a warning of a "Fixed Camera" ahead, with another to warn of a "Mobile Hazard" ie. Speed trap location.
Note "Fixed Camera" includes both speed camera's and red-light camera's.
Installing
1. Plug fone into Usb port
2 Select Pc Suite mode
3. Open PC Suite (on your pc) and run “File Manager”
4.Navigate to the memory card, then to the Documents folder in the root directory of the memory card
5.Copy the following files from your PC to this folder:
1. camera_hazards.lmx
2. mobile_hazards.lmx
6. Navigate to the Sounds folder in the root directory of the Memory card, then to the Digital folder within it.
7. Copy the 2 mp3 files you had selected as your warning sounds, to this folder.
Copying is now done, you may disconnect your phone from the Usb port.
Saving LMX file as Landmarks
8. On your fone go to Menu > Settings > Data mgr > File manager
9. Press the scroll right button to go into the Memory Card > Documents
10. Open the camera_hazards.lmx file > Options > Save > All landmarks.
11. To organise them and make them work go to: Menu > Applications > Landmarks > Press the scroll right button > Options > Edit categories > Options New category > Give it a name (E.g Speed Camera)
12. Once done scroll down to the category just created and change its icon. I chose the blue (i){information logo}. > Press back > Uncategorised > Options > Mark/Unmark > Mark All
13. The only landmarks in this folder, should be the speed camera ones. If you have others that are uncategorised, then unmark them now manually.
14. Select Options > Add to category > Find speed camera category and press the middle button and then OK
15. Now do the same with the mobile Hazards.lmx file ie.
16. On your fone go to Menu > Settings > Data mgr > File manager >
17. Press the scroll right button to go into the Memory Card > Documents
18. Open the mobile_hazards.lmx file > Options > Save > All landmarks.
19. To organise them and make them work go to: Menu > Applications > Landmarks > Press the scroll right button > Options > Edit categories > Options New category > Give it a name (E.g Mobile Hazards)
20. Once done scroll down to the category just created and change its icon. > Press back > Uncategorised > Options > Mark/Unmark > Mark All
21. The only landmarks in this folder, should be the mobile hazard ones. If you have others that are uncategorised, then unmark them now manually.
22. Select Options > Add to category > Find mobile hazard category and press the middle button and then OK >
Configuring Sounds
23. To configure them in the GPS, open your GPS: Options > Settings > Alarm > Landmarks > tick speed camera
24. When prompted to Change Alarm settings Click Yes
25. Select Warning Sound and then choose the file you had copied to your fone for the speed camera warning.
Then choose you're own Preferences for the warning distance
For "warn only along route?" you could choose No so it warns even if you haven't entered an address in. ie. you are driving normally with the GPS on, not navigating with it.
26. Then Save
Do the same for the mobile hazards ie.
27. Back to Landmark (in the Alarm folder of the GPS) > tick Mobile Hazards
28. When prompted to Change Alarm settings Click Yes
29. Select Warning Sound and then choose the file you had copied to your fone for the mobile Hazard warning.
30. You are now done!!!
ObeyTheDiode 05-07-2008, 06:20 PM AWESOME!! I'll try it tonight. Do you maybe know how to transfer the maps from the memcard supplied with phone to another one. I want to use a bigger memcard that I bought but I cant get the Route66 to work (it starts but the SA map is not available)
Yes, it is very simple as well.
Here is it:
With your old card in your phone:
1. Connect the phone to the PC via USB and select "Data Transfer Mode"
2. Run route66 sync on the PC.
3. Select the map files, etc in the right hand pane within route66 and press backup.
4. When complete you should see the backup file in the left hand pane of route66.
Disconnect the phone from the USB port and then
5. Press the red 'call cancel' button and select 'remove memory card' on the phone and remove this memory card (Best keep it safe just in case). Insert your shinny new memory card.
6. Using the phone, format the memory card (just to be safe). (You probably wouldn't need to do this, so no need if you have other data on the card)
7. Start route66 sync again and restore the backup to the mobile.
It work perfect.
Found it here (http://discussions.nokia.co.uk/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=58013)
ObeyTheDiode 05-07-2008, 06:51 PM Thanks man! I hate to repeat myself but I'll try it tonight.
BTW are you familiar with the internet connection sharing one can do using bluetooth (since 6110 doesn't have Wi-fi). I've been wanting to write a tutorial for months now - since I got it to work. Not much use to me since my PC only has dial-up... but if you have broadband it's possible to make a datacall to your PC using BT then using IP-passthrough you can browse on your phone using your PC's internet connection. The range is obviously limited but I got a Bluetoot 2.0 dongle has decent range (it covers large part of our house)
Most forums discuss this for the n70 (using a program called Gnubox). Check it out - or wait for my tutorial (could be long time.....)
Project X 05-07-2008, 08:02 PM Do you have a step to step for the n95?
It is identical, except for the folder where the application is saved on the fone.
I just installed it on my Brothers N95 following this guide and it worked perfectly.
Project X 05-07-2008, 08:11 PM So where do i save the application? MMC?
Follow the guide exactly.
The only difference is that the application will get installed to the "Applications" folder, not the "My Own" folder within it.
Project X 06-07-2008, 12:51 AM 2.5 Then move into Pc Suite mode (phone setting->connection->usb->Pc Suite)
2.6 Program will now complete installation and will be present in “Applications -> GMobileXT”
This part doesn't work , it does copy to usb but when i change it to pc suit it does nothing please help....
Project X 06-07-2008, 01:42 AM Ok i got it to work thanks
rph72 06-07-2008, 08:52 AM Brilliant ABU. Works for me. Thanks. :)
caspa 06-07-2008, 09:36 AM ABU....you are a king, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.....it worked perfectly
araujo3rd 06-07-2008, 12:21 PM Thanks ABU for posting this, i am just about to install it on my 6110 navigator, one question, what is different with the garmin than the route 66 on the 6110? which is better to use, thank you. And when i extract the map part 1 and part 2 it tells me should i replace the current file, should i rather put the files from part2.rar into part1.rar and then extract that. MAny thanks in advanced
Hi,
The Garmin seems much better, however you can use both.
Save both rar files in one folder, then extract any one of them, the other would extract automatically, both into one big file.
araujo3rd 06-07-2008, 12:59 PM Thanks for the quick reply. Does garmin also tell you about nearby places etc?
And is it possible to update my current SA map for route 66 to the new 2008 map. Thanks
Project X 06-07-2008, 01:11 PM whats the latest route 66 for phones? I think that is the best...
ObeyTheDiode 06-07-2008, 10:49 PM There is a 2008 Quarter1 update available - but you have to pay...
I think one will probably "find" additional maps for Garmin software since it;s more popular. The R66 on 6110 is a new version - not the same as installed on other Nokias like N95. I found it impossible to get additional (Europe etc.) for the new version - other than buying them for ~R500 per country...
wonduhboy 07-07-2008, 04:56 PM will this also give you the speed cameras and other POIs?
No, does anyone also want the instructions for that?
Also, does anyone want instructions for installing the speed camera poi's on Route 66?
Project X 07-07-2008, 05:48 PM Yes please ABU please please please......
Which v route 66 are you talking about?
rph72 07-07-2008, 07:14 PM Is there a way to export your Route 66 POI's to Garmin XT?
Can I sync this app with Garmap software on my PC?
Yes please ABU please please please......
Which v route 66 are you talking about?
It should work on any 6110 running Route 66
The instructions are really simple, I am just trying to get a more updated Poi file, before posting the file and instructions.
Project X 07-07-2008, 07:54 PM I use the n95
It should work on there as well
geezer 07-07-2008, 08:30 PM To begin with, you will need to download the Garmin POI loader from here: http://www8.garmin.com/software/POIL...indows_252.exe
You will also have to download the Road Safety data from the Garmap website. In order to download tha latest data you will first have to register on this site: http://www.garmap.co.za/PoiLoader.asp#PoiData. I would strongly suggest you also download the "Download_Readme_xxxxxxxx.zip" file which has detailed info on the unzipping procedure and nessecary folder structure. After unzipping the relevant files, you just need to run the POI loader application and the rest is easy. You just need to set your Nokia 6110 to "Data transfer" mode.
Project X 07-07-2008, 08:30 PM It should work on there as well
you are talking about route 66 right the latest version?

Is this all free?
Yes, it is all free. This is for the Garmin.
Just be careful, the instructions are a bit confusing.
Project X 07-07-2008, 08:37 PM OK what do you guys think is better, Route66 or Garmin?
Garmin anytime.
Route66 is simpler and more basic.
Project X 07-07-2008, 08:42 PM Do you have the step by step instructions for the poi
Hope to write them out by tomorrow.
Just busy at the moment comparing the Route66 Poi's that I have, with the latest update on the garmap site.

What do you have on loading GArmin on the E90? Same steps maybe?
Ok, I updated the first post of this thread, with the details for installing the POI's on Route66.
Try it out and let me know if you have any problems.
It should work on any fone running Route66, however I have only tried it on the 6110.
geezer 07-07-2008, 10:20 PM Yes, it is all free. This is for the Garmin.
Just be careful, the instructions are a bit confusing.
I just tried to help!

Yes, Thanks for that.
I was just warning him, as I tried to use those instructions and found a number of errors in them.

araujo3rd 08-07-2008, 12:32 PM Does anybody know where i can find the 2008 SA maps for my route66 on 6110 navigator, thanks
imaginary_friend 08-07-2008, 06:19 PM a big thanks to this tread starter. clear instructions and a need subject (for some of us anyways) i guess the only thing that would make this easier to do is if ABU came to ur home and installed it on ur 6110 himself ;-) good job bro, keep it real.
wonduhboy 09-07-2008, 11:55 AM ABU, can you check the second map file on media share? having some trouble downloading it.
Thanks
It's working fine, just tried it now.
If it loads slowly or gives a "Page not found Error" refresh the page.
It should work then
imaginary_friend 09-07-2008, 02:20 PM btw, does anyone have the latest route 66 maps for south africa?? and maybe instruction on how to install route 66 on a N82??

I presume that you did install the version for Windows Mobile? If not, get it over here: Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile, Ver. 4.20.50w, as of Apr 29, 2008, http://www8.garmin.com/software/GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42050w.exe

DeanOz 18-08-2008, 09:08 PM Yeah I'm having the same problem...there is no option to use the internal GPS.
Also wondering if this is only for use with those particular maps.
Thanks in advance ...

I tried that but i get the 'No gps device found' error. I'm using Nokia 6110 Navigator.
Please help.
white90 29-08-2008, 02:48 AM No, does anyone also want the instructions for that?
Also, does anyone want instructions for installing the speed camera poi's on Route 66?
simongie 29-08-2008, 07:02 AM I do please...I just got a 6210, and I'm sorry, but the built in Nav software is nowhere near as good as my Mobile XT on my N70.
simongie 29-08-2008, 09:05 AM You need to download the FP2 compatible version to get it working on the 6210 Navigator.
Get it here: http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthread.php?t=277446 or here http://download.garmin.com/tw/download/TW_MAINWEB_UPGRADE/GarminMobileXT_4_20_20_S60_TW.exe (havent checked this one)
At the bottom is a link to download the file.
Then run the install file and tell it to install to the root of your phones memory card i.e k: No folder names.
Once its copied over, go to menu, office, file manager, garmin, and look for the .sis install file and run it.
Then the app will appear in my own.
It starts off in chinese, but if you keep scrolling left in the language setup screen, it will change to english.
No w to see if I can get the maps going :)
EDIT:
Ok all maps are working. Install process for the maps is exactly the same as per Abu's excellent guide.
The only difference is that you have to manually start the install of the GMXT .sis file using file manager.
So now I have a 6210 Navigator with GMXT and South African Street maps :) :) Thanks guys!!!
OK, it only seems to work with my GPS10X bluetooth GPS, how do I use the internal one?
Highlander 04-09-2008, 07:11 AM I've had the 6110 Navigator for a year and been working perfectly. However in the last month or so its taking over 20 minutes to lock on to my location.
Looking at the GPS info view, it usually finds a satellite quite quickly but takes a while to find a few satellites to lock on.
The only thing that I've changed on the phone is installing Nokia Maps as well, but can't see how this can affect it. Don't want to uninstalll Nokia Maps as I need to use some of the international maps on occassions and uninstalling and reinstalling is a pain.
Any one else experiencing similar issues? Any suggestions.
Oh, I have AGPS turned off and always been this way.
UPDATE:
---------
I have now installed GARMIN MOBILE XT and same problem with that. Drove 20km to work and still hasn't locked on. So I can't tell if it even works. Looks like it does though. Instructions at the beginning of this thread were great. Thanks.
ronald911 13-09-2008, 05:56 PM Nice Tutorial!! You should actually make this a Sticky
ronald911 13-09-2008, 07:42 PM BTW... this should be the correct 1 for the 6210 Navigator.

ronald911 13-09-2008, 09:57 PM In exactly what folder should I copy the Map gmapsupp.img
files?
Highlander 15-09-2008, 07:23 AM Not sure if this is common knowledge, but I figured a couple of things out yesterday. I am going on holiday and wanted the Australia maps, but had two problems.
1. The file name is the same - 'gamapsupp.img'.
2. The file size was over 100mb and didn't fit on the card - still haven't figured out the problem with my 4GB card.
So to get around these two.
1. The second map set can be named gmapsup2.img and unlock file gmapsup2.unl - then you can put it in the same folder (Garmin - on memory card)
2. I found the Sydney only map.
Another problem, and not sure if this is related to the Sydney map or a general Garmin problem (i.e. may happen with other map sets) is that when searching for a street, it finds the street, but not the address and therefore cannot place it on the map. This happened when searching for 'All Cities' and had me scratching around for a couple of hours. Eventually I put in the co-ordinates of somewhere and it located it without a problem. So I figured out that you have to select a city first and then no problems.
I haven't had this problem with the SA maps, only the Sydney one so it could very well be related to the map.
johnny8908 15-09-2008, 10:28 AM Hi bro where can i download garmin xt software for nokia e66? i had been finding very hard, can share? i need singapore & malaysia map
toendra 15-09-2008, 03:44 PM Hello,
Does anybody know how to how to unlock the GARMAP Africa series 2008 March edition DVD ? I need a product serial key.
I have a Nokia 6110 Navigator phone with Mobile XT ver 41080.
I tried to download maps for my phone, but there was always a time out, so I went and bought the DVD for R99 at Outdoor Warehouse.
Put the DVD into the drive and the auto run started.......
I got as far as the request for a product serial key.
How do I generate one?
Did I do anything wrong ? Is that why the setup is asking for a key?
I have seen quite a few post of other people who have also bought the DVD and they were able to overcome this obstacles with greater ease than me.
Your help would be appreciated
Thanx
toendra 16-09-2008, 09:09 AM Thank you to Mier , Rocket-Boy and Truetanacity.

pcgig 27-09-2008, 09:05 PM Wow!i got it working on my new nokia n82!Thank you so much for the easy step by step tutorial.worked perfectly first time.
Leftfoot 30-09-2008, 04:22 PM In order to download tha latest data you will first have to register on this site: http://www.garmap.co.za/PoiLoader.asp#PoiData. I would strongly suggest you also download the "Download_Readme_xxxxxxxx.zip" file which has detailed info on the unzipping procedure and nessecary folder structure.
Garminxt on my N95 is working quite nicely etc....I am now trying to get registered on Garmin to get the POI's. Has anybody figured out how to register? It wants product registration, ok I have the number of the mem card, then it wants the unit and product serial number...what goes there?...its a phone!
Any Ideas?
SlowInternet 01-10-2008, 03:05 PM Somehow I'm missing something. I've followed the step by step instructions by ABU but no maps when opening Garmin. Everything seems to work except that I can't see any map and down in the bottom right hand corner it shows "no map" When I try to navigate I get the message " Detailed maps are required to use this feature. Visit garmin.com for more info"
I've copies the map file to the memory card into the Garmin folder. Is it the right location or not ? There are other folders like Apps; Cache; EULA; Firmware; Font; GPX; Help; JPG; POI; Voice also in the Garmin folder on memory card.
The map file is 154,288KB in size.
Any ideas ???

This works like a charm on HTC Diamond now. All you need to do is copy the two ZA maps in the first post and update. Works brilliantly.
Brawler 06-10-2008, 02:41 PM Hi i would just like to know how you activate the internal gps nokia 6110. it doesnt give me the option to do it.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Hi I am using an nokia 6110 navigator, I used abu's intructions on how to install the garmin maps, great suff, I only have one problem, I do not have an option to use my internal gps, can anyone please help me with this?
Yeah I'm having the same problem...there is no option to use the internal GPS.
Also wondering if this is only for use with those particular maps.
Thanks in advance ...
The reason it is doing this is because your gmapsupp & sw files that you copied accross are in txt format not unl. eg gmapsupp.unl.txt instead of gmapsupp.unl.
Fix:
go to settings--> data mgr-->filemanager-->memory card tab-->garmin
scroll to the bottom you will see the 2 files named gmapsupp.unl.txt & sw.unl.text, press the option button and scroll to rename.
SpellJammer 07-10-2008, 09:25 AM Abu you wouldnt happen to have the newest ZA maps would you?
Bernie 07-10-2008, 09:38 AM Hey ABU.
Thank you for the very excellent guide. Works perfectly. :D
rexter 07-10-2008, 12:42 PM hi guys does it work on htc diamond touch
SpellJammer 07-10-2008, 01:21 PM Hi rexter, yeah it does but you must download the windows mobile version in the previous page of this thread and download the maps abu provided. Works brilliantly as I have it running on mine. Just follow Abus instructions using the windows mobile downloads as his downloads are for symbian based Nokias.
The only thing its missing is the POI's for ZA traffic cameras, if someone could find those it would be a complete product.

thanks spelljammer will give it a try
SpellJammer 07-10-2008, 03:11 PM If you intially dont see the maps dont be alarmed. Make sure that you update your GPS Poisitioning by going to Start>Programs>Quick GPS and download the latest co-ordinates. You will be LUCKY if it actually works in your building. Mine only started working when I jumped into my car and started driving.
SpellJammer 07-10-2008, 03:38 PM Update Regarding POI's
This worked for me using the oldish POI files but wasnt able to get the latest ones as I dont have a device serial number to register on the garmapsite. Perhaps someone with the time and goodwill at ther disposal can download the latest POI data and upload to rapidshare? Nevertheless it worked and is better than having nothing.
To begin with, you will need to download the Garmin POI loader from here: http://www8.garmin.com/software/POIL...indows_252.exe
Thanks to for that Geezer. I now have speed cameras etc set up on the HTC Diamond as well using those files. You have to love the multiple OS compatibility of this product!
shamil 11-10-2008, 09:09 PM Hi
installed as per instructions on HTC Diamond, it only gives me intermediate driver; bluetooth and serial options for GPS. no internal GPS option, any tips? please
SpellJammer 14-10-2008, 01:25 PM You must use the Serial GPS Com 4: Com 4. It wont work indoors. You have to test it in your car while driving.

Got it working on my HTC Diamond and it rocks!!!!!!
Freakboy 10-11-2008, 01:56 PM Can this same method be used to install the SA maps on a Nuvi 670/750? I can get a USA Garmin that has US and Canada maps on.
JoseQuervo 11-11-2008, 02:30 PM Abu thank you for this guide. By following the steps and with some help from Snormossel, I now have Garmin running perfectly on my HTC Touch Pro.

Blinky 11-11-2008, 08:22 PM Noob question?
I've tried downloading the maps from the links on page 1, but was unsuccessful. I cannot seem to download the file from Rapidshare, and on Mediafire, the first file downloads up to 50% of 80MB, and then says download is complete. The second file downloads completely. When I try to extract the file, it comes up with an error message.
Help, what am I doing wrong?

Best advice I can give you is to use a download manager like Flashget to download the files from Mediafire, thats how I got em. You're going to keep running into extraction errors if the files are incomplete.

Now to test. ;)
Drake2007 20-11-2008, 09:13 PM Had Garmin working for all of 4 hours, when I tried it again it came up as won't run the application for security reasons. Now it's corrupted my memory card which has been working fine for months. Definately won't be putting Garmin back on the phone however as the route66 stuff is much quicker and easier to use. IMHO
Garyvdh 08-12-2008, 04:32 PM got everything installed, only problem is the Garmin software won't recognise the internal GPS in my Nokia E71 :(
Zol247 17-12-2008, 11:21 AM For the Innov8 i8510, how do you extract the card id, as it doesn't give you the option to do so
There is no extracting of the card id.
Run Mobile Xt, select settings, then scroll down to "About"
Select it and a screen should appear showing:
Garmin Mobile XT
Version ********
Unlock ESN:*************
This Unlock ESN is the Card ID.
Zol247 17-12-2008, 07:27 PM GmobileXT does install but doesnt launch. If I select it under applications it still wont give the settings option, only the details option which does not give much info except the download date and expiry date and the file size.
Zol247 17-12-2008, 08:18 PM did a little google search, it seems as this version is not compatible with INNOV8. There's a new Garmin 5.0 version that is apparently compatible.
Here (http://www8.garmin.com/software/GarminMobileXTforSymbianS603rdEdition_50010.exe) is the link to version 5.00.10
Tsponge 26-12-2008, 09:31 PM I know this id the garmin thread but will someone please send me a link for tomtom 7 maps for south africa.

Zaatjie 29-12-2008, 08:37 AM Hi there,

I went into the Garmin program, nokia maps and the menu's on the N95 and could not find options>settings>allarm>landmarks>tick speed camera. Could you please elaborate as to where to go to to find this?

Hi,
Those directions you are following are for the Route 66 programs that comes standard on the 6110.
I dont think your N95 comes with it.
I you want directions for installing the Speed camera info on the Garmin Mobile XT, I will be posting a guide for that by tomorrow hopefully.

For those interested in customising the warning sounds, read this (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4360) as well.
Zaatjie 31-12-2008, 09:09 AM Hi there,
I have loaded the speed cameras and various other hazards to the garmin program on my Nokia N95. Is there any way that I can allocate a sound to the various hazards as the beeping tone is driving me up the pole.
Help please.
Hi,
My post just above yours contains a link with detailed instructions on how to customise the sounds
Zaatjie 31-12-2008, 09:38 AM Thanks, I'll try it out
Zaatjie 04-01-2009, 05:53 PM Hi there Abu
I tried allocating the sounds as instructed on your previous post but still gives you the beep. Do I have to delete the csv extention files and do I have to disable the alert tone on the garmin program itself.
Please help
spiff 08-01-2009, 12:08 AM ABU
firstly thanks for posting the installation of garmin mobile xt. I got everything working except when i unzipped the gmapsupp 1 & 2 from mediafire they seem to be corrupt? I tried loading the map file onto the 6110 but it does not work?
these r the errors I get:
MAPSUPP.part1.rar: CRC failed in GMAPSUPP.IMG. The file is corrupt
GMAPSUPP.part1.rar: Unexpected end of archive
GMAPSUPP.part2.rar: Unexpected end of archive
I have not being able to download from rapidshare?
Is there another way I can get the files?
regards
spiff
Try downloading the files again, as it seems that the files you downloaded are corrupt.
It is a common problem with downloads.

I have a Nokia N95 8g and I have noticed on my friends phone he has an option when he turns his cellphone to the side the the screen turns as well. I don't have that function on my phone is there anyway that I can get that option.
Please help
Drake2007 13-01-2009, 12:09 PM IMHO the Route 66 / Navteq software is faster and more user friendly than Garmin.
Oh and by the way, Fsecure picked up a worm/virus.
Anyone tried other GPS software and what's your opinion on the best options?
Snowolf 18-01-2009, 06:31 PM has any one tried using the garmin online with this "special" version yet ?

I had success after doing exactly the same with my E71. Formatted all the rubbish on the memory card and followed the instructions exactly. Works fine - struggling with POI's and cameras. Guide 3 #11, Menu > Applications > Landmarks...I lose it in my E71 here.

make sure the 2 files that you made in notepad don't have the .txt extension, otherwise you wont get the maps or the onboard gps to work. Have a look on the phones file browser.

Will be released this Monday at the Avnic Offices on Monday, should filter
down to the market overthe next few weeks.
The hunt for the Holy Grail continues.
simongie 13-02-2009, 02:37 PM Don't know if you have seen this, but I have successfully setup Garmin Mobile PC on my laptop using a bluetooth GPS. You can also use a GPS outputting data over serial port using the NMEA protocol.
Download Garmin Mobile PC from the website
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-11018-00&cID=139&pID=13484
Don't install it, as it will fail because you don't have an original installation.
Open the the exe file with Winrar and extract it to a temp folder. Then run the install by running the .msi file, NOT the setup.
Download the Garmin Mobile PC Special exe file from http://www.sumotorrent.com/searchResult.php?search=Garmin+mobile+pc+special
and extract the exe file in there to your GMPC Install directory. Usually called c:\Garmin Mobile PC
Download the Jetmouse Keygen from here http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/showthread.php?t=670
And run it.
Run the GMPC exe and skip the automatic scanning process. Go to Settings-> ABout and note the device ID. Use this id number in the keygen. Shutdown the GMPC program. On the Keygen make sure you change the software type to Garmin Mobile PC, not XT and click "generate". Leave the keygen app running.
Then save the number generated to a sw.unl file
Copy this file into your GMPC directory.
Download the South Africa maps listed at the top of this topic, they work with GMPC too.
In the Keygen, select custom mapset, and use the same code 1214.
Click on the bottom "generate" button and copy the number into a gmapsupp.unl file
Copy this file into your GMPC install directory, and also copy the unrar'ed mapset, GMAPSUPP.img.
Restart GM PC and bombs away.
Let the GPS get a fix first, then view map and zoom in to display the maps.

Either the link on the website is faulty or something. The second set of links don't work either. Where else can I get the maps from??? Please help!!!
The rapidshare links work fine. I downloaded them yesterday afternoon and they're both perfect files. Here's a screen shot of my download records:
Shads 21-02-2009, 11:26 AM I managed to get the Rapidshare files downloaded, but now when I try and extract them, they say the files are corrupt!!! I downloaded with WinRar as my WinZip is expired. Does this make a difference? Where can I get Winzip? Thanks
Gamer 21-02-2009, 11:57 AM They're a split RAR archive. Winzip won't work to extract. I use Winrar (or possibly you can use 7zip which is completely free) to extract the two archives which must be in the same folder in order to extract properly. The single file you should be left with after a successful unpacking is about 155MB in size.
Shads 21-02-2009, 05:21 PM I did try with WinRar and that's when I got the message saying the file is corrupt. Seems that I just don't have any luck with this :(

iDenTiTy 28-02-2009, 06:29 PM lol for R10 for the dvd.. its cheaper just to drive to a cape union mart instead of trying to download them :)
R10 for the DVD. R999 for the license. Isn't it?
dinkd 28-02-2009, 06:36 PM yea... but if you get the keygen you can unlock the maps on the dvd..
simongie 04-03-2009, 11:53 AM Yes they do, just use the keygen to create gmpasupp.unl and copy the maps onto the phone. Don't forget to use mapset id 1214.
simongie 04-03-2009, 11:54 AM Is there a link to download the 2009 maps?
Keygen for it perhaps?
:o
Use the Jetmouse keygen in my post further up.
I have just gotten a copy of the 2009 maps off a brand new Nuvi 860 and have succesfully unlocked them with the Jetmouse keygen and am now running the maps on my EEE pc, so it should work no problem with a Mobile XT install.
simongie 04-03-2009, 11:58 AM they r crazy! The disk is R10 and the unlock code is R999???
Thats because the code unlocks the maps......
dinkd 04-03-2009, 12:27 PM i thought the map id was 1215? i got mine working with map id 1215...
fonefreak 04-03-2009, 01:49 PM i thought the map id was 1215? i got mine working with map id 1215...
I have used 1214 without any issues ;)
dinkd 04-03-2009, 01:52 PM ah ok :) then both must work lol

Download JBak Taskman to your phone and then kill the Garmin app and see if it improves.
Is there no task manager in your phone that you can kill the background app if it is running?
dinkd 04-03-2009, 04:44 PM hmm i'm running it on a n82 with no problems.. maybe it depends on the phone you using?
GolFBOOi 05-03-2009, 10:18 AM Works ... Thanks :)
Only one issue picked up , My HASH key function on the 6110 is now not working properly in :
SMS mode : when copying or usiing the key to change to predictive text
Message Mode when using to select multiple items : where the hash key is usually used to put a tick next to a message. Problem is , if used once , it does not de activate the select function(for eg if i use it to select a message (for movinhg or deleting) and then move to the next message, this gets selected as well. )
any ideas on how to rectify this issue. Probably need a firmware re installation or something.
Any help would be appreciated.

I do have an Innov8 and had a few minor glitches when installing (but basically because it did not download the maps properly), but other then that it installed perfectly. Where are you getting stuck?
Also, I am using Route 66 now, Garmin eats up my battery too quickly.

I have all the files and installed Garmin v5.0 but it wont launch, if it does it will immediately close. Should I install version 4.00 first then v.50. If I can get it to launch so I can get the card Id..... Did you follow Abu's guidelines as they are, since you have a different phone???
I Installed this on my 5800, works like a charm as long as you use the latest version that supports my phone!
Just one thing, can i use the weather and other online features, or will this disable my Garmin XT when it goes online?
Blinky 12-03-2009, 05:00 PM I need some help.
I loaded the files, but when I run the Garmin app, it cannot find the GPS. I had this loaded previously, and it worked like a charm.
What could be possibly wrong. Thanks

mohebo 02-04-2009, 08:10 AM Installed this on my e65 last night no issues with the installation.
A question though, i have not yet received my BlueTooth GPS Transmitter/Receiver could this be why when i select 'Show MAp' to browse the Map manually it just shows the arrow / car indicator but says no map on the bottom Right hand side ?
When i set my home location manually and choose to show it on the map it then shows it correctly and the map is there as well.
When i go to Tools> Manage My Data> Map Sets> And then click on the folder containing the Map set it says Garmap Africa Series 2008 does that confirm the map is installed and unlocked correctly ?
Thanks Abu for the great Guide.
geezer 02-04-2009, 11:55 AM Yes, you will have to wait for your bluetooth GPS receiver. You will only see the map detail once the GPS has gotten a fix on your location.

vicario 01-05-2009, 12:08 PM How to Unlock Map Codes ...This is a Brief version ..
You will need jetmouse 1.5 keygen first ...here below
http://rapidshare.com/files/164364173/Garmin_Keygen_1.5.rar
1. Install MAPSOURCE ..it will ask u where to install. REMEMBER on the MAP CD go to SA Streetmaps and click setup
Once installed under say c:\garmin there will be folders will mapcodes ..so SA Streetmaps 2009 will have a directory FAM_1214, each MAP will have a different MAPCODE directory . so make a note if u install mauritius maps , note the new mapcode directory that will correspond to mauritius while have format of FAM_"MAPCODE" (eg FAM_1148)
2. Use that Mapcode to generate the 25 digit key to unlock maps , dont forget your Unit ID / CARD ID
2.1. Select Utilities Tab in Mapsource app.. and select "manage Map products" ...you shld able to unlock maps from there too. It will show the status ie unlocked or locked
3. Once unlocked...open mapsource..you will see the map , select by left clicking and dragging over map area. It will show yellow when highlighted and orange once selected
It will also populate the "MAPS" section on the left
4. Connect your phone to your pc using cable ..select data transfer mode
5. Select Transfer option in Mapsource Menu...it should pick up garmin mobile xt , and click transfer to device ....and VOILA !!! maps are on yr phone .
Hope this helps :)
dyanamo 01-05-2009, 02:20 PM Funny that. It kept chatting to me long after it closed. :D
