Hi ckleynhans.

I see that you are on MyWireless now, I just want you to do something for me, being a gamer, I'd like to know the pings to local servers. so please do the following :) :

ping mayhem.co.za
ping 196.4.79.37

If you dont know how, simply start > run "ping mayhem.co.za" (without the brackets)

thanks a load :)

Hi there Nemesis,

Sorry, I only saw your message now. I will do that with pleasure but at this moment I am visiting here with my old dial-up connection. The Linksfield tower is down and I will have to wait till they are reconnected. Maybe tomorrow.

Previously on my pings I have found that they can vary quite drastically. I will cut and paste the results here.

Thanks very much ckleynhans for going through the trouble in testing this for me. Tis appreciated [:D].

The pings are quite disappointing, even as you're on 512k, but I suppose thats expected for a wireless connection, maybe later on ping times will be focused on more...

Nemesis, yes up to now the wireless technology has focused mainly on speed but I hear there is new software in the pipeline which will improve all pings by approx 30 ms overall and no doubt as this technology developes over time things can only improve.

Hi Nemesis,

Its a pleasure. I am on 128kbit/s though!

I would also speculate that you could get around 30ms improvement just by using the Ethernet connection and PPPoE rather than USB.

Yes, I also feel an ethernet connection will be an improvement.
I have one here and will try it as soon as I get a chance.

hey hey

Yeah Proasm please :), would be a real help if u could test it using the ethernet cable cause im getting the 256k and seeing how much of a difference the ethernet cable will make in pings.. /me hopes it improves alot [:)]
Ciao

Mithrandi, if you are right, I would be able to confirm it soon. Bought a Broadband IP router and is installing the final part of the network in my SOHO. When it all works, I will do another ping, maybe one before taking of USB and one after.

Here is the ping with ethernet through my broadband Ip router. The results are very similar.

sliiiight improvement [|)] whats ur signal strength ?

ckleynhans

Don't know the signal strength in % from my IP router. Obviously not using the PC client anymore to connect. But I am running on 4 yellow LED's. The previous ping was USB and about two yellow LED's.
