well...if you're asking the question, then making the antenna is not the answer but...if you still want to proceed, then try the pringles can antenna (http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/448), you'll have to adjust it for the 2.5GHz range though.
Because this antenna is directional you'll have to aim it around till you have the best possible signal
Ofcourse you can always buy the R250 patch antenna from sentech...
Good luck [:)]

Yes, you can try the patch antenna (http://www.fastcomm.co.za/DesktopDefault.aspx?mid=472&tabid=125&f=PortalStore_ProductDetails.ascx&productID=3). If you install this antenna on your roof you would have a shot at a signal. You must point it at the tower you want to use for your wireless. If you've got an ok signal, and there's a few metres of cable left, it might be worth cutting it off as every metre of cable absorbs some of your signal.
Otherwise, you may try a signal amplifier. Don't know if one exists for this app though.

The signal you receive from the tower may be too weak to be useful even if you amplify it. The patch antenna that Sentech provides is basically designed to increase signal quality within reasonable distance of the tower i.e. if you're bordering or just beyond 5km it will help. I think 18km is probably a bit of a stretch but it would be interesting to know what the maximum range is for reliable communication [:)]
Hey
Thax for the help and links , i just want o know will i need to know what Mhz they r running on and that tipe off stuff do u ppl think the patch antenna will work or what and where can i get a amp for this sort of stuff im really willing to try anything but i doent want to spent money and its not gunna work see whatt i meen, how far does this patch antenna pick up signal well if been looking and i think its a bit more than 18Km i njeed to pick up i can ask this 1 guy a few houses away from me but i dont really like him so i wanna explore a bit then i will ask him thx all

Rayy, perhaps the best plan would be to sign up, get a patch antenna and see if it works. According to this thread it would appear you get 14 days to try it and if you can't connect as a result of bad signal you can cancel the contract :
http://www.myadsl.co.za/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1569&whichpage=10
While your desire to connect to Sentech is understandable I don't think you would get any technical support using a Pringles can [;)]
Hi Ravy
If you look elsewhere in the "First Impressions on Mywireless" Jhbgirl got a prototype patch antenna from Fastcomm to test. Perhaps you can get one too to play with during your 14 day trial. Jhbgirl did not get any signal though so make sure you have precise details on how to test the antenna.
Back in my younger days when I wanted to test our tv reception I took a tv and bunny ears on to our chimney to see if it would be worth it to get a outside antenna. One channel was actually so good we left the bunny ears on the chimney and used a long cable. Unfortunately the bunny ears did not last long in the weather [:(]
Maybe take your pc onto the roof and put the modem on the chimney? [:D] ...at least to test.

Thx u 2*Lmao* [:D]but i dont think i want to put my pc on the roof but ill try that in a diffrent way, ok im gunna sighn up at Sentech but i dont think i get a 14 test trail on the patch antenna[xx(] ok R250 is not mutch but if i buy it and it dont work with what elsecan i use that antenna but Ill do it just for the fun off it
Still no 1 who can tell me where i can get i of those Modems [?] ill buy a Modem anythime even if i cant get signal thax peeps[^]
