Hey experts

I'm currently in Uitenhage and have an ADSL connection from my house. This is a part of Uitenhage close to the center of town. Big parts of Uitenhage like Kwa-Nobuhle as well as Thomas Gamble and Rosedale suburbs do NOT support ADSL when I check on Telkom's website with any landline numbers from those areas.

The people at the local Telkom office tells me more people have to apply for access before Telkom will consider upgrading the exchanges. This sounds contradictory because friends of mine are on 3G with either Vodacom or MTN because there is a lack of ADSL in their suburbs.

So I'm really curious how does one get Telkom to upgrade an exchange to support ADSL?

I'm particularly interested in hearing your story if you have achieved this in any other part of South Africa.

Over and out!

Capricorn Park in Cape Town, was originally intended as a Technology park when the area was set aside as a business area.
No DSL, apparently not even enough landlines to serve the businesses there.
I heard that Telkom's reply is something like "we'll put in more lines when the whole area is occupied and built up."

It is really a disgrace that Telkom should operate as a crippling agent for businesses.

But then .. this governments motto seems to be "obstructionism everywhere, no matter what".

I am in the same position. However, I have applied twice at Telkom Client Offices without any record of it. If the system shows that there is no DSL in the are, they simply file the application in the waste paper basket.

So there is no record for Trelkom to decide whther more people than myself are interested in DSL in my are.

(If you apply online for Do Broadband(aq last resort) the process also fails before a confirmation is given.
