View Full Version : Misconceptions of Zoning READ THIS BEFORE APPLYING

Last night I packed out, almost gibbering with anticipation (and after trying for a signal at my cousin's place in Weltevreden Park, Boomdruif Street)

So, 4 bar signal, not bad, 30% signal strength, not bad either (according to the technician)

But get this... my area (and the closest tower is Radiokop) is NOT operational. According to the zone map, it says, GOOD signal, Planned 1st Quater 2004 March.

It SHOULD say, good signal (or partial) OPERATIONAL. SO WHAT THE ****????? I'm paying 1500 bucks a month till they eventually decide it suits them to make the tower active?!

And the stupid building I am in at work is a capasitor for ****ing signals, perfect signal outside the door, but as soon as you step in, poof goes the signal (and apparently this area is operational)

Now according to the tech, because I have the modem, I'm going to pay, pay for what? NO connection? This sounds VERY telkom like to me!

He even suggested I give the modem back and apply at a later stage? WHAT THE ****? DO YOU REALISE HOW HARD I STRUGGLED TO GET THE ****ING THING!!!!!!!!! NO ****ING WAY!

The marketing department is going to here about this.. miss tracy, be prepared, be very prepared. I'll pay for the modem, but not the connection fee...

So yea guys, here's my first impression!

Eish,

I have the same situation with the coverage map, also says planned 1st quarter 2004, which is why I haven't applied yet. The strange thing is, the house right next to me has got a good signal...and it's operational ?!?!?!?

But yeah, now you understand why they have that "you confirmed that you checked for coverage before applying" clause in the contract

Yea fuggit, I'm a rich bastard, lets wait another month, take the 1.5k hit, and check if I'm connected... I'll just have to make sure from marketing that I can cancel this puppy after 3 months or so instead of the 14 day thing.

A well, so much for defending them and stuff, and working hard to help me to get an application through.

I just cancelled my application as they cannot give me a date for the signal. I'd rather get dialup than worry about these guys, just now the truck carrying the equipment for our tower here runs out of petrol because the sentech staff lied to the driver and said they filled the tank (even though they were planning to). No that's not pointed at the tower signal, they never lied there ;)

blah

noone,

I read on the other post about possible contacts at sentech who does get tot he root of the problems...

My question, did you have the same problem as myself? and how long have you been waiting to get connected after you received your modem, and how long did it take after you got into contact with mentioned sentech employees?

Well, after speaking to Clinton yesterday, he made sure I got my modem (because they were dragging their feet)

And last night I tried to connect... so, less than 24 hours have I been waiting

will post any new info here. btw, my theory, if there is two towers that covers your area, and you're closer to tower a than tower b, and tower b is operational but tower a is not, you're screwed because the modem will always try and connect to tower a and not the operational one.

Silly init? [xx(]

Ok, so he can give you a modem, but that is a basic stock issue, not a technical problem.

I think i will just upset someone if i go to him directly and bypass the technical teams.

I am patient so far, but if it gets to 10 days, I am cancelling, which is still within 2 weeks.

Nope, not really, he may be able to help me out with the technical issue as well, he's just not in the office at the moment, waiting for him to get back to me, but he told me he will definatly check for me whatsup on my side etc
