I am a windows man and playing with ubuntu a little.I have decided to try linux out for at least a year.
OK so is it really difficult for me to make my n70 phone work with linux as a modem.
Doi really need da skills to build my own drivers up.
Will i be pulling hair out most of the time.
All i really need is to make the transition smooth and painless.
Must i have more than 20 braincells to really work with linux:D

Using Linux is actually, if you are new to computers, easier than using Windows. Honestly. Linux doesn't crash or throw unexpected errors like M$ does. Sure, if you want to use a cellphone as a modem, there might be some advanced console bashing coming your way (I should try it sometime, I mean connecting my Nokia to Linux).
Why would you want to write your own drivers?

Or at least it would be if all peripheral manufacturers supported it. (eg. Nokia.)
Happily, (I guess), the next version of Ubuntu is supposed to support 3G properly.
But I'm afraid double-clicking a .exe is a lot easier than the l33t h4x you need to get anything vaguely obscure working in Linux.
With Linux, it's waaaaay easiest to use a broadband router as a gateway and just ethernet or wireless through that.

Are you using 8.04? If so, why would you believe it won't work?

Try get 8.04 (was released this year), or install your last years version and upgrade it, through the update manager. :)

there is nothing there that would suggest to me it should not work on other versions of ubuntu. as long as at least the kernel is updated to the latest version.

There is also a new network manager seehere (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=848135) that may be suited to your needs :)

Try this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothDialup
Works on my LG KU990 and Nokia N95 perfectly. 3G even seems more stable than in windows...
