too many to choose from ! - but :-
Trainspotting - I just love this movie, I've watched it about 10 times. The combination of dialogue, music and cinematography is so compelling.
Shawshank Redemption - a brilliant script, executed with flair.
Waking Life - Thought provoking
Brazil - Terry Gilliam at his mad best, you'll either love or hate it
All quiet on the Western Front - timeless masterpiece
Reservoir Dogs - Tarantino hasn't done anything nearly as good since
The Godfather - classic that should be on everyones list
Midnight Cowboy - from a brilliant brutal and honest era of movie making
Deliverance - as above
And just some more :-
Snatch
Starship Troopers
The Beach
Fight Club
Matrix
Fellowship of the Ring - I thought the other two were dissapointing in comparison
Time Bandits
Groundhog Day
Apocolypse Now
Seven
12 Monkeys
The Wall
Event Horizon
Gosforth Park
Ripleys Game
Raging Bull
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
That's it, I give up, I'll be here forever

One flew over the cuckoo's nest.
The old censor board changed the movie everytime I saw it, once they even cut out all Jack Nicholson's swearing. And of course the sex scene, which played a pivotal role in the story was not there.
I was so happy to get the DVD to see the movie without any intervention. Even by today's standards, an awesome movie.

Speaking of usually crappy actors in pretty awesome roles:
Leo d'caprio was very good in " What's eating gilbert Grape " ... one of my fav. johnny depp movies.
Off topic: They had this thing online a while back saying which actors were originally going to play certain roles in movies but never got the part & one of them was Bill Murray being Forest Gump. I can actually see him pulling it off very well.

Not all time favorite, but maybe best movie of the year - "The Kingdom".
Old Classic:
“I’m drinking some wine, eating some cheese, and catching some rays, you know……”
Oddball in Kelly’s Heroes (1970):D
Flipping classic movie with Donald Sutherland. I am quite sure those chaps must have hosed themselves making that movie.
Adventure:
I enjoyed the adventure and excitement in the movie National Treasure (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368891/) as they pieced the clues together to find the treasure hidden by The Knights Templar.
Comedy:
One of the Leon Schuster's Movies.
Mr. Bones was one of the better ones.
I used to enjoy Steve Martin, but his French Accent in Pink Panther was unconvincing. Peter Sellers was still the best.
War:
Saving Private Ryan
Drama:
Forrest Gump: Tom Hanks on top form.
Thriller:
Se7en
Series:
Enjoying The Tudors with King Henry the VIII, but then again I enjoy anything historical.

Hello?... Uh... Hello D- uh hello Dmitri? Listen uh uh I can't hear too well. Do you suppose you could turn the music down just a little?... Oh-ho, that's much better... yeah... huh... yes... Fine, I can hear you now, Dmitri... Clear and plain and coming through fine... I'm coming through fine, too, eh?... Good, then... well, then, as you say, we're both coming through fine... Good... Well, it's good that you're fine and... and I'm fine... I agree with you, it's great to be fine... a-ha-ha-ha-ha... Now then, Dmitri, you know how we've always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the Bomb... The *Bomb*, Dmitri... The *hydrogen* bomb!... Well now, what happened is... ahm... one of our base commanders, he had a sort of... well, he went a little funny in the head... you know... just a little... funny. And, ah... he went and did a silly thing... Well, I'll tell you what he did. He ordered his planes... to attack your country... Ah... Well, let me finish, Dmitri... Let me finish, Dmitri... Well listen, how do you think I feel about it?... Can you *imagine* how I feel about it, Dmitri?... Why do you think I'm calling you? Just to say hello?... *Of course* I like to speak to you!... *Of course* I like to say hello!... Not now, but anytime, Dmitri. I'm just calling up to tell you something terrible has happened... It's a *friendly* call. Of course it's a friendly call... Listen, if it wasn't friendly... you probably wouldn't have even got it... They will *not* reach their targets for at least another hour... I am... I am positive, Dmitri... Listen, I've been all over this with your ambassador. It is not a trick... Well, I'll tell you. We'd like to give your air staff a complete run-down on the targets, the flight plans, and the defensive systems of the planes... Yes! I mean i-i-i-if we're unable to recall the planes, then... I'd say that, ah... well, ah... we're just gonna have to help you destroy them, Dmitri... I know they're our boys... All right, well listen now. Who should we call?... *Who* should we call, Dmitri? The... wha-whe, the People... you, sorry, you faded away there... The People's Central Air Defense Headquarters... Where is that, Dmitri?... In Omsk... Right... Yes... Oh, you'll call them first, will you?... Uh-huh... Listen, do you happen to have the phone number on you, Dmitri?... Whe-ah, what? I see, just ask for Omsk information... Ah-ah-eh-uhm-hm... I'm sorry, too, Dmitri... I'm very sorry... *All right*, you're sorrier than I am, but I am as sorry as well... I am as sorry as you are, Dmitri! Don't say that you're more sorry than I am, because I'm capable of being just as sorry as you are... So we're both sorry, all right?... All right.

The Bridge Over the River Kwai was miles off especially the story IIRC. Pure 'hollywood'. The Dirty Dozen was hardcore. Damn that was vicious without the gore though. Still a classic.
Haven't seen Great Escape or Life is Beautiful.
Platoon or Born on the Fourth of July(haven't seen) or Apocalypse Now was just plain liberal propaganda smut.

Deer Hunter was another.
Great Escape and Life is Beautiful are both classics; the first part of LiB is a bit cloying for me, but the second half is outstanding.
Apocalypse Now was a very self-indulgent movie to be honest...it's difficult to take seriously now, but the cameo by Marlon Brando made the film.
