View Full Version : neotel advertising
is it just me, or has neotel created absolutely no brand awareness- I have not talked to one single person outside of this forum who knows who neotel is- this is a little concerning- are we looking at telkoms younger and more incompetent sibling?? ok stupid question, you cant get any more incompetent, but lets say equally useless

Yeh, their marketing has been poor to say the least. One would think they would attempt to create some brand awareness prior to launching their products.

Neotel did advertise in the Star News paper in FEB....
I think people are not even aware of the Second National Operator...
I think for now it is word of mouth.....
A friend who owns a business never even knew that there is a second national operator.
Yet again, Do not blame him as he has no internet connection at home.

I think Neotel seriously need to advertise in the local news papers....
http://www.classads.co.za/browse.html
"Southern Courier"
"Northcliff / Melville times"
etc...
In order to make brand awareness...
Many would follow and sign-up...
they arent like a local bakery or something, that doenst have any money. I mean these guys should have adds, on tv, at cinema, along the road. I dont like cell c, but one thing I must credit them for is that they knew how to create brand awareness.
The only reason I found out about Neotel was because I had heard that there was going to be another operator, and I went looking for info

Perhaps they are waiting for better infrastructure to be ready? I mean we don't have Prime coverage in Bedfordview, which is an important CBD

I think they must hold off the hectic advertising until they have a lot of coverage in the Jhb, CPT and Durbs ... and then once their coverage is adequate ... start having promotions in big shopping centres ... giving away lots of hats and pens and stuff, as well as selling packages there and then and getting people signed in 5 minutes. That is where the biggest brand awareness will begin.

There has clearly been a decision made to not advertise. They still waiting for their network to be finalised. I said it once and ill say it again, they have launched a year to early.
What we have been seeing is in no way a launch. This time next year i think we should start seeing ads. It's sad though, cause we all have waited long enough.

3 years was the gestation period ;)
Boss` wife complains about telkom friday
I tell her to go with neotel instead
"neowhat? Is that something like skype?"
They really should get themselves a better marketing department.

Trust me ... at the moment, they don't want to go for full on marketing ... remember ... how many users are complaining about things at the moment, and there aren't even a lot ... they first want to expand the areas, and make sure they can provide a really good service ... because marketing too early is worse then no marketing. If they start marketing fully now, and people are not happy, bad word of mouth will move like wildfire (Human Nature), and it will cause big issues. They will probably start marketing next year in much more depth. Look at iBurst when they first launched ... not many people knew about them ... my parents found out through a friend in IT. Then when they had enough coverage ... they began to market properly.

They should be advertising in between European soccer games, cause there is so much interactive stuff on the internet for the soccer ... they could be like "Wanna create your own team on so and so website, just get Neotel internet and you can begin your own league online in 24 hours" or something like that. Copyright on this comment reserved. Neotel ... I want money if you use it ;)

Makes no sense for them to have a huge big marketing campaign at the moment. They are not able to provide services to everyone yet. I would rather they spend their money laying cables than throwing it at a TV campaign.
They are already reaching more people than they can handle....
Remember what everyone said before Neotel came, as soon as the next operator opens shop we will all move over... they wont even have to advertise !
I think its exactly like that, they don't need to advertise, they need to build up their infrastructure and then slowly build up clients until they can really compete with Telkom and then trust me.... they still wont need to advertise.

I have see a few adverts - in the newspapers - pull outs.
