Another example of Telkom abuse.

I phone the UK a lot I do so via Globel prepay calling cards. Daytime rates are very cheap compared to Telkom.

Once before they changed the access number and now that have done it again. So I cannot use something I have paid for due to Telkom abusing their position.

These phone cards are legal and Telkom must have broken the law by blocking or changing the access number again.

Last time I was connected to the MCI helpline in southern USA somewhere and the guy on the phone said the local operator (Telkom) was causing the problem and they had a lot of problems with S Africa.

Do you think it’s a coincidence that Telkom also offer prepay international calling cards? I bet that access number never changes.

If Telkom is really abusing their position by changing the access number without the permission / having informed the calling card supplier it should be able to form the basis of an official complaint to ICASA.

I would suggest that you contact Global 1 and ask them what's happening...

complaint should be filed to competition commission, because
Telkom also provides calling cards,This is unfair business pratice, and an abuse of their Molopoly, same legal groud cause them the prospect of R3.7 bn fine.

competition tribunal has mechanism of enforcement because it is a court.

ICASA as an regulator ,however can only "persuade" Telkom,I can not see it has any teeth to bite.

I expect they have sold a lot of these to overseas visitors
to phone home with [there is a big advert at the airport].
Now they don't work. Great image for SA , ripped off
before you leave the airport.

Problems like these will only be sorted if and when the SNO comes into play.... even the it will take Telkom an eternity to rectify there problems and provide a service worth paying for.

This is the reply from Telkom. Something is a foot...just how could these cards be sold for so long before Telkom stopped it?

I've emailed Globel [which is a PTY] so it will be interesting to see their view....
--------------------------------------------
''Globel is neither a licensed provider of telecommunications services in South Africa nor any form of agent of Telkom SA. Telkom SA has blocked the lines advertised on the Globel calling cards as these are numbers allocated by Telkom SA to a licensed operator, which Globel has been utilising. Telkom SA has no agreement with Globel and the use of such numbers by Globel is therefore illegal.''

I posted Telkoms response above, this is the Globel response.
Just who the hell is running telkom? A five year old.
[sorry to all 5 yr olds!]

Thanks for your response

I have spoken to the Citizen who have agreed not to publish the letter, but rather let Telkom and Globel solve the pending matter between both parties and not in the press

Regarding Telkom comment............We do not agree for the following reasons
Telkom is not the Regulator or the court therefore they cannot say Globel is illegal.............We have spoken to the writer from Telkom and have stated the same.
Lastly we have taken up the issue with "Icasa"(the regulator) and they are investigating and have told Telkom if they believe Globel is illegal they must launch an official complaint in terms of section 100 of the telecommunications act. This correspondence was sent to Telkom on the 2nd.December 2003 to date no application has been launched.

Lastly we do not operate in illegal environments...........therefore only launched Globel after extensive legal opinions from top attorneys at enormous costs and a meeting at Telkom Head office with senior staff.

Globel

I would be interesting to know how many similar issues were "agreed" to keep out of the public eye and not to be solved in the press.

Shows what Telkom is scared off: The press!

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

I dont think they are scared of the press.... if they were they would have made changes....
