Not that I am a Canon man. I thought the above is interesting. look at the test shots at the bottom that show the advantage of full frame so nicely. In my opinion full frame is the way to way.

@Bwana - I guess this is why you want a 5D.

This review generated quite a buzz on the dpreview forums. My opinion: Bob Atkins went badly wrong with this one, setting out to prove something that's entirely obvious. Much bigger sensor, slightly higher resolution. And given his reputation, he could have made sure all this test shots are in focus...

Is a full-frame sensor really all that much better?

Yes.

Hi there

I am great believer in the value of full frame.

I never saw the DPreview forum crit of this piece of work. Link?

From the link in the first post, it seems that the benefit of a full-frame is getting true wide-angle images with certain lenses. Other than that, I can't really see much difference. Why not just buy a wider lens on a "normal" SLR?
The 40D has quite a number of features that the 5D doesn't have, which were highlighted in the article.

I honestly don't remember the subject and dpreview's forum is a pretty poor piece of software with an even worse search function. Why can't they just use vb?

"normal SLR" would be full frame, I would think. What we're used to is crop.

They're aimed at different markets and the 5D pre-dates the 40D by a few years. If I'm not mistaken, the 5D was based on a 10D or 20D, pretty much as is, and given a FF sensor. If Canon does announce the 5DmkII at Photokina, chances are it will be based on a 40D, so it should be a much fairer comparison.

What I mean by "normal" are the likes of "entry-level" cameras, such as the 400D and 450D etc...
