people will settle with lower speeds, why is it that neotel does not allow people just out of coverage to at least settle with speeds above that of telkoms offerings, 384?

Perhaps the don't want the people out of coverage to connect, yet, as they would all complain on sites like this and hellopeter that the are "slow"

just my 2c

can't they offer a neotel premium 384Kbps service for the next few years, for people just out of coverage, they could charge R50 less and double the number of their subscribers until they have enough coverage.

just my 2cthese people claim that 1mbps is 'slow' compare that to a 384 with 10GB line from telkom, with no wireless and costs still double that of neotel. the rest of us have to suffer

I am 500 meters from an area with "Very Good" coverage and they won't give it to me.

Dang, i'm not even near coverage, and I live in Kempton park (you know, where Africa's biggest airport is) - c'mon neotel, give us what we want!

There must be a business opportunity in 'renting out' an address within coverage, getting the connection, and then moving to where one lives. These phones are portable so how would they know the exact location and why should they care?

Well you can subscribe to Neotel, from a friends house and if you have no coverage when you get to the location you want to use Neotel, then you'll regret ever signing up for Neotel. I have checked Neotel in some place and with the Prime package, and only having 1 bar, could only download 20 KB......

I think neotel is doign you a favour not letting you sign up for a service you wno't get
it's people like that who will bitch and moan about how crap their service is and how there's no coverage and only get below sub par speeds...

I disagree with this statement, I have spoken to fellow Neotl Customers, and some are not getting true speeds. I am getting true speeds during peak hours and off-peak hours..

Just that some guys on Neotel are getting around 335 kb on Prime, seen the screen shoots myself...

335 is still ok for now IMHO

found this googling: http://www.axesstel.com/fixed/broadband_evdo_modem.php?id=7

two antennas, double the coverage?

will the Ethernet device have a better coverage reach?

The 'address renting service' would obviously include a quick trip to where the phone will actually be located to allow for testing of the connection.

Neotel is protecting their brand from becoming known as No-tel.

It makes sense not to oversell, and in 12 months time have a reputation of reliable and excellent service instead of just another kid on the block service levels.

Can't wait for the fibre to the office SMME offerings.

Can't wait for the Ethernet terminals either.

I hope they add an extra area on their maps for the Ethernet devices. the Ethernet devices have two antennas.

I choose to take up a wireless connection once with iffy coverage and it was not fun at all. Somedays things worked ok, but then on others you wanted to pull you hair out.

I'm sure it's not what you want to hear, but it's best for Neotel not to take the risk.

Off course the simple way around this is the Disclaimer that I've seen in London - Something to the effect : I achknowledge that I'm in an area outside coverage and understand that my connectivity may vary.

it covers them perfectly, and stops the whiners from kicking up a fuss, and it give us internetless people SOMETHING...

Right now I don't care about speed... I'll leave it running all night if I have to... 10 GB for R600 is a bargain!.

Okay... I'm not sure whether to laugh or be HIGHLY distressed at that statement!... What does neotel tell you about your situation?

You must be between the N1 and Bellville coverage areas. A large part me the N1 coverage is over the Parow golf course.

I am 250m from prime coverage. :(

Fiber is going in at Vasco Boulevard so hopefully my area will be next.:)

Lol, they also covered the entire Airport Runway - you know the place where you're not allowed to use the internet?

The usual, no time frame for when they will make it available. I simply have to be patient and stick it out, anything to be NOT reliant on Telkom. If I ever have to speak to a Telkom branch in Bellville, I will hang my self. Anger is not the word. Somebody said it better:

Telkom should be broken up into smaller competing telecoms companies. South Africa doesn't need Telkom. The name should be banned from being used in commercial activities for as long as South Africa is still around. I spit on you Telkom! I spit on you! YOU SUCK!!!!!

I can't believe that they dont cover the Sandton area, you would think...

But in the reassuring words of the call centre lady, "keep checking everyday, we are in the final stages of covering the whole of Gauteng, because we have started work in places like Durban..." Ok...

I don't expect to make it to 10 GB... even if I only make it to 6-7 GB... I'll be happier then Tellkom!.

R200 for 20GB, If I had my downloads running on that old R7 call more thing, I could potentially download 20GB on dial-up. I want the speed of NeoConnect Prime/EV-DO with 20GB for R200 all inclusive. Then I can sleep at night ;)
