View Full Version : NEOTEL @ Work In DURBAN
Hi Guys & Dolls,
Just thought I should let the Durban Forumites know that NEOTEL is at Work in Durban. A Drive around the CITY and Surrounding Areas today revealed to me that NEOTEL workmen busy on High Rise Buildings installing Antennae. This is a good sign of things to come. Because only NEOTEL can really start cutting prices of INTERNET access and Voice calls in this country !
Lets say we give them 1 YEAR and see how they doing after that.
It takes about 5 days to complete an installation fully of a BTS.
Keep it going NEOTEL and try to speed up a bit PLEASE !

Amen to that. I checked out the coverage area and it looks like there are 2 or 3 other towers around me forming a circle but I don't have coverage. So annoying!
I guess we have to use MTN prepaid bundles till NeoTEL gives us Coverage !
Who knows by then we might get data at 5c a Mb.

Problem is, I live in the Center of two areas that have coverage, and of course that means I can't get neotel yet.
What I do find surprising tho, is that they haven't used the university as a base station since they do already have fibre going onto the campus.
Hi Guys & Dolls,
Just to give you some feedback on the Coverage of the Durban Area.
Neotel is going live with 2 Towers a week !
This is by far quite good at the moment.
At least progress is noted and its for Sure !
Check the coverage map on a Tuesday Evening and you will notice new coverage areas or enhanced Coverage in existing areas.
At least there are no dead ends !
If you live in a High-Site area, e-mail them if you wanna lease 36sqm of space for a New Tower in your area. Who knows maybe you could get some fibre to your PC :)
I hope they are going to be offering a USB data only package.
We need a cheaper more reliable option in Durban !

Yeah well they better catch a wake up and start moving it out.
That nifty little gadget that MTN has launched is going to have them lose potential business on the low end usage market.
Also with when Vodacom Business decides to put a ring of fibre around Cape Town, they're going to take a knock.
Though expensive at first, VC has a hectic lead on them, due to the fact that they're already entrenched in the minds of people and business in this country.
Neotel only has one little ad and this website talking about it.

So is 6mx6m of space on the roof of my building sufficient?
I live in Essenwood, which is a high-density upper-class area (tons of flats). If they are interested, I could make a suggestion to the body corporate.

I saw neotel digging up along duncan road in brooklyn,Pretoria.
Haven't bothered to ask them regarding what their immediate plans are with their works in Brooklyn.
Most Contractors either need 6m x 6m or 7m x 7m to setup the Mast along with Cabinets for the radios. Also factor in Mast sharing as well. It makes commercial sense to allow the mobile operators to share the Mast and put up their anntennae on it and Collect some handsome rental.
Also the Cell-Planners must need a Site to where you offering or else they wont be interested.
Drop them an e-mail with the street Address and then Motivate the Body Corporate !
IF they need that particular site. Then the Body Corporate can ask for a Decent Rental.

Possibly it's already being used as a base station for another organisation? ;)
