I read somewhere that it takes neotel supposedly 5 days to get a base station up and running. If I do my math correctly, with only 7 or 8 base stations (according to the coverage map) in cape town, it actually comes down to a base station a week since launch in cape town. This seems fair, but mean that technically there is only one team installing base stations in the entire cape area. At this point I have forgotten what exactly I wanted to post
It is going to take looooong to have a decent coverage footprint if it goes on like this.

rofl :D
Thank you! I needed the laugh :)
I think theres about 5 Teams working in the Country at the Moment.
JHB - PTA - 3 - Teams
DBN - 1 Team
CPT - 1 Team
They are trying to finish of the JHB - PTA line asap and surrounding areas as JHB is supposedly where the demand is at the moment !
However it's places like DBN - CPT - BLOEM - that people are really waiting to switch over to NEOTEL !
Residential areas is the demand from what i read on the Forums.
NEOTEL needs to introduce the USB CDMA modem with data only to get the money rolling in Quickly !
It will also give them a chance to fine Tune The Network under LOAD.
If I were to market NEOTEL i would allow the areas in which Base - Stations are rolled out to aquire the USB CDMA modems.
The Service is good and affordable !
I think what we need now is a R249 - per month - 3 Gig minimum Data and USB modem for 18 Months !
DXL - Consumer

And what we REALLY need from Neotel is coverage of WierdaPark/Rooihuiskraal :)

The installation of equipment and network integration will take about 5 days.
However, getting the property lease and various approvals from authorities and residents can take ages (I know of some that is still waiting after 2 years).

Indeed. Also a environmental impact study must also be done on the site before construction can start. This new requirement came in around the time CellC started putting up towers. This caused a lot of delays and penalties for providers.

I reckon that is the big problem, especially when high buildings doesn't want the base stations on their roofs. Its like a girl scout selling cookies in a hurricane. Kinda difficult...

I do hope they get their act together soon...
IBurst contract is up for cancellation May 2009 and Neotel is still many base stations away from where I live.

If only we knew. They owe us another blob this week.
Its been 6 working days since we got the last tower. hehe :D
What I do not understand is why they have not covered Cape Town CBD yet. There are so much development going on in Cape Town at the moment, getting space on one of the buildings should not have been a problem (hell I will rent them my balcony if it will help). Also as someone pointed out they say residential areas are where the demand is at the moment well guess what there is a very large community of people living in the CBD, if you look at the average price of the flats we are all middle to higher income group and would definitely have been able to afford the Neotel contracts. Yet in Cape Town the first areas covered includes areas such as Paarden Eiland, which is predominantly industrial areas.

further to logo's post:
In Cape Town the area around the city, up on the slopes of table mountain and lions head is called the City Bowl (Vredehoek, Tamboerskloof, Higgovale, Gardens, Devils Peaketc), yes thats right, its a big massive amphitheatre, All neotel has to do is stick a frikken antennae on one of the tall buildings in town and they would have the whole city and the city bowl covered.
I just check on this site https://salesportal.neotel.co.za/web/guest/home and It would seem that cape town CDB has very little coverage, Im a missing something, does anyone else in CPT CBD/city bowl have coverage?

I dont think it looks any different to the other wireless towers (sentech, vodacom, MTN, Iburst... etc) Its usually just a mast, with 2-3 wireless antennas for 360 degree coverage

That must be Paarden Eiland and not Foreshore as the map indicates.
