I got hold of a Neotel phone yesterday, and was able to make calls from my office in Stellenbosch! Voice quality was excellent. I took the phone along while driving around and I must say I was very impressed with their coverage. Their Cape Town coverage map is very understated.

Stellenbosch town centre: No Signal

Stellenbosch (Plankenbrug, Onder Papagaaiberg, Devonvalley, Welgevonden Estate, Vlottenburg): Low signal, Probably only good for voice

Traveling on the M12 from Stellenbosch to Blackheath I had low signal all the way until I went over the hill at Saxenburg, from there it was 3-4 bars.

Saxenburg, Blackheath Industria, and down Hindle Rd to the R300: 2-4 bars

R300 onto the N2 towards Somerset West: 1-3 bars up to Baden Powell Drv.

N2 (Baden Powell to Macassar): Low signal

Somerset West (Somerset Mall, Gants Plaza, Somerset Industrial Park): 4 bars

R44 past the Lord Charles up to Bel Aire: 2-3 bars

Good one Neotel.

Now if Neotel could go West along Baden Powel to Muizenberg , maybe we could get a couple of bars also.

Do you think Strand will also have strong signal? According to the map it does not. Good work on the test, thank you. :D

Saw the mast near Lord Charles - going Neotel as soon as they cover me ... I'm 100m from their cut off zone in Somerset West.

Gordon's Bay (Anchorage Park) 1 Bar signal

Thanks, I think it’s time to get a technician out to my place :D. Wonder why they will shoot themselves in the foot by not updating the coverage map properly ?

DDV Tech, I respect Neotel for being conservative in stating their coverage. If they just signed up everyone, their call centre will be flooded with angry and unhappy customers and their reputation will take a knock.

What part of Strand are you in? If Gordon's Bay is covered and the signal at the bottom of Gants is still 4 bars, I am confident you won't have a problem in Strand.

About two blocks up from the ocean, close to the big blue building that looks like a sail. Yes if logic prevails, then I should not have a problem, thanks for the assistance, I appreciate it.

Soo... if you are just outside your coverage area, but could still get excellent coverage, will they allow you to apply?

hr7140: don't you want to do a roadtrip in CT too, especially in the Seapoint/camps bay area?
