I had some passport photos taken today, and the guy was using some digital Rebel - I couldn't see the model because his hand was in the way.
What was odd was, each time after he squeezed the shutter, after the shot fired, there was a mechanical sound like a motor/gear turning. Almost like film advancing, but without the crinkle sound. At first I though it was a film camera (although it looked too small) but then he popped out the CF card.
What makes the sound? Is it just artificial noise to deter people from using the consumer DSLRs in "professional" environments?
