Yeah, u never here about the Aussies "building a team" like our coaches always do.
They make sure they always have a good team.

It is because they wait for players to be mature enough, look at hussey.
Also they bring in ONE new player in a game and let him find his feet before changing another player... thus almost no pressure :)
Ps almost 7k time for you :D

Yeah, we never learn that.
And they have many more they can choose from, only problem is with a spinner. But u can understand that, a guy like Warnie doesn't come around often.

But warne was good and he could take the IMPORTANT wickets at the IMPORTANT times... Look at macgill's stats though it is close to warnes in tests and ODI's, thats why the aussies are so brilliant.

Yeah, that macgill's one of the unluckiest players around.
But he took most of his Test wickets on spin frienly pitches.
Or so they say on a few cricinfo articles.
I reckon if Warnie played for us instead of the Aussies, our history would be very different.

yeah i also think warney was a cut above him but Macgill was one of the best still...
What we need is a left arm swing bowler and a leg spinner.. Johan botha is k@k and so is old moffie hair harris.
I really can not see why we don't bloody start it at school level.... I mean FFS Jacques rudolp started as a spineer, he ended as a bat.... WTF? Look after the spineers that are playing at under 19 level that have potencial.

Macgill was probably around the 5th best spinner in the world for most of his career.
Adams could've great for us, those first 10 or so tests he played were awesome. But since that happened - ZERO.

Its going to be difficult for India. That first innings lead is hurting. Tomorrow is going to be interesting to see whether Aus's strategy of rely on pace in India works. Neither Clarke or White are know as spinners capable of running through a batting side.
India can win it but it will require a sehwag innings and he usually doesn't provide those in the second innings.

I'm not to sure about that, we're playing a home series against them soon, and for once I'd be prepared to bet actual money that we'll beat them 2-1.

Those last few days in England are a distant memory, and probably a good thing as we aren't in the usual windgat mood before an Aussie series.
We were kicking some ODI butt before we went there.
Remember, we nearly beat India in India, not too long ago.
When they were last here, we did beat them pretty easily, they were never in it.
We certainly performed better against India than the Aussies are right now.

Aus are being exposed in india for not having any decent spinner. White is a pathetic excuse for one. They are going to struggle to find a replacement for warnie.
Wonder whether they will go with the normal way of preparing spinners tracks for the sa-aus series. The way there team is going they might be forced to prepare seaming wickets.

Gibbs sent home from SA squad
2008-11-06 10:42Email | Print
In hot water
Johannesburg - Proteas' opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs has been sent home after breaking a team curfew on the evening before Wednesday's Pro20 international against Bangladesh.
He will take no part in the three-match ODI series against the same opponents which starts at Potchefstroom's Senwes Park on Friday.
The selectors have decided not to replace him in what now becomes a 13-man squad and it is likely that Justin Ontong will open the batting with Hashim Amla until such time as Graeme Smith becomes available again.
“Herschelle's behaviour is unacceptable in the context of team discipline,” commented national coach Mickey Arthur.
Team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said that in terms of his CSA national contract Gibbs would be required to attend an alcohol rehabilitation course.
“We are not trying to punish Herschelle but rather to help him,” commented Moosajee. “He has been under a lot of pressure lately, notably from the publicity surrounding his recent divorce. It is clear that he has developed a problem that needs to be addressed.
“Herschelle can rely on the full support of CSA to get his life back on an even keel again. He still has a lot to offer South African cricket and his many fans but this has to be done in line with team structures and disciplines.”
Gibbs asked the Media to respect his privacy at this time.

I do not rate Ontong anyhigher than a gr2 girls cricketer.... He is freaking useless.Agreed, he's been sort of on the peripheral for some time now but he's never really grabbed the opportunities afforded him, with both hands. He's a very sharp fielder and an aggressive batsman, very effective at provincial level but not international class...
It's odd how the selectors have persisted with him. I got to say it seems a political selection to me and it surprises me as there far more talented players of colour which they don't persist with like Loots Bosman and Zondeki.. Surely more of an effort should be made to temper the volatile force of nature that is Herschelle Gibbs?...

Run rate was 3.5 for India, so not bad batting.

Not to come across as anally retentive but no-one excepts the Aussies write cricket scores like that.

Yep, and our bowler's career runs per over are mostly above 5, not that great.
Morkel's ODI career is a bit disappointing so far. Both of them.
Amla doing well, but mostly played the minnows.
Kallis still slow...

Johan botha is actually bowling well (I still don't rate him).
Morne Morkel is struggeling, Albie is struggling, Kallis is ok, louw isn't going to "bowl the Aussies out" and steyn looks like he is making a great recovery.
But those are the only "real" bowlers we have.
I just think that we need some guys that can bowl teams like Aus, Eng, Ind etc etc out in a oneday game.
Atm with M.Morkel in poor form it feels like Kallis might get a wicket, Botha against the tail, and steyn as our only real weapon against the top order :(
Just MO.

Not sure- I've had it on mute and just checking the score every now and then - haven't seen anyone retire hurt...
If u got PVR, why not flick it back a few minutes?

Looks like Harris retired hurt - he got a eina on his vinger!!! Shame.
He's padded up though so he's gonna give batting a shot again when Ntini gets out. Heck, anything would be an improvement to his batting. And hopefully the bandage helps his bowling, or whatever it is he does with the ball...

Cause I don't feel like flipping back through and entire innings. We know now at least - was Harris...

Hopefully Harris wont be able to play in the next test and they will bring in Thandi Tsabalala!!! I really dig that guy.... i think he is a solid spinner and so unlucky not to be in the international fold!!!!

Early wrap-up for SA. Expected though.

They have a team full of all rounders, one of them are bound to find some runs.
Or SA lifted the foot of the gas pedal, maybe to challenge themselves, no point in wasting 3 days of sponsorship, they also need game time for the Aus tour...
Just my opinion...
