Hello,

My cousin's husband who is a photographer in Zimbabwe sent me the following email, and I was wondering if anyone here could help:

I have a major problem with my D70, I broke the pins that read the card, and
have less than two weeks to sort this out. I hope you can help even if its just
contacting the appropriate people.

We have managed to get the part number which is as follows (will give them in
sequence)
1. Nikon 520-0-1
2. (triangle image, then gap followed by "UR" written in a mirrored fashion and
joined together) and followed by KCE WV-0 94V-0 F3
3. (this following number is a sticker) 0425 followed by S4717A.

On the last number we may have misread the first letter. It could well be 8 or
even 6.

We just need the part and are able to install it here of all places.

Obviously there are no agents there to deal with it. If anyone could reply here or PM me, it would be much appreciated.

I would purchase the part here, if possible, and send it up to him.

EDIT - and btw good luck. It was taking so long to get my canon 400D repaired I ended up getting a second one. Hopefully they'll have stock of the part you need!

If you don't get the part, maybe an electronics supplier will have the pins separately. You might get lucky and find the part in a connector manufacturers catalog. Try RS Components, Wago, Phoenix Contact, Molex, Amphenol etc. I don't see Nikon reinventing the wheel for something as common as a card connector. Maybe even strip a cheap reader. Hope you're handy with a soldering iron. :-)

Maybe speak to Calico182. IIRC, he has a Nikon D70. Maybe he has some names/places for you to contact.

yo. the best contact i have is a guy down here off Seaview Road, PE who services Nikons (amongst others). When I dropped off my camera for servicing a little while back, he had loads of other cameras in waiting from various newspapers that he services too. From what he mentioned, he used to work for Nikon overseas, so he's pretty experienced and might have answers/contacts for you.

It's been a while since I last contacted him, so I can only assume he's still in business.

Found this pic on the net of him

His name is Iky Plakonouris. I'll PM you his details.
