Hey all,

My Wife has always expressed an interest in Photography but never actively pursued it (Life, Kids, house, Dogs, Me ... :o )

I would like to spoil Her with something like a Photography course, perhaps a camera (something better than the 5.0 'mik en druk' She currently has).

We live in the Pretoria Eastern Suburbs and She has a pretty flexible daily work routine.

Any suggestions / advice on where to start, which courses / studios to use as I really have no clue.

Thanks,
J

Go into your local camera shop. They often have adverts for this kind of thing or could at least point you in the right direction. Also may be try your local technicon or college

There was quite a bit of discussion on ODP on courses recently. This one (http://www.outdoorphoto.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=8734) may be of interest.

Cameras? You got money, we'll spend it for you :D

I guess it would depend on what she wants. I really have no clue on cameras, photography.

I do not think I would jump right to buying a top of the range camera but I would want to get her something that would be suited to someone starting out.

I thought maybe get a basic photography course and see what she would want after that.

A decent starter dSLR is going to run you r5000 and up.

@Jase: Check out www.orms.co.za - great prices, I think all/most of their camera deals come with a photography course included. Not too sure on the depth of this course though.

From my limited knowledge, you should look for the Canon 350D/400D/1000D, Nikon D40 or Sony A200. These are the 'entry-evel' DSLRs.

Makro also has some nice deals on entry-level bundles here (http://www.makro.co.za/ProductList.aspx?cat=1191).

Also a good bundle on a good camera - Nikon D60 + accessories + training voucher (http://www.makro.co.za/ProductDetail.aspx?cat=1620&prod=41099&SKU=000000000000143047|EA).

If the course is at CTSP - then its well worth it * Need to be in Cape Town though !
